| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 6:45:46 AM | Some guys are preoccupied with boobs or butts, to me it's hair. She's GOT to have long, luxurious hair. The only way a woman with short hair is more attractive is if she has really bad hair.
I understand there are practical reasons for women to cut their hair. Generally women with babies cut their hair because the babies are always pulling on it. Or if they are in the military or some other relevant job like a factory.
Ladies, your hair is your crown. It is the wispy, flowing frame in which your face sits. Take that away and you'd better have one hell of a face!

Long hair requires more maintenance. No, it doesn't. I agree with Gwendolynn2009... long hair is much easier!
Most men/women with short hair visit the barber every few weeks and I go maybe two or three times a year.
I feel sexier with long hair than I have when it was shorter, too.

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 7:42:35 AM | Yes, certainly are some generalizations flying around. When my hair was short and uncoloured I couldnt keep my hands off it! Silky, a lil curl it never has long, I felt sexier than I ever have! But, no one else agreed, so I grew my thin, hi maintenance, shoulder length( like another lady mentioned it doesnt grow any longer than that and breaks off) back and then coloured it the colour I always have been before grey hit, auburn. Works like a charm for the headturning thing. So sadly predictable.
Unlike the ladies with thick, super long hair, it takes a lot in the morning to get mine to look like anything healthy and attractive or be done with it and put it up, which gives me a headache part way thru the day! Short hair is always up (off my neck I mean)! lol AND I had nooooo problem cutting it myself when short!

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 7:51:02 AM | | While I like long hair in general, that doesn't mean that short doesn't look good. For example, Kate Beckinsale as Selene in the movie Underworld drops my IQ by about 100 points. Her hair isn't cropped short but its not exactly long either. | |

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 8:14:39 AM | | I have had my hair all lengths although i have to say having my short hair has made me more apppealing to the females out there. Short hair attracts both men and women in my experience but I am only attracted to men so its been an eye opener shall we say lol | |

Because, in some cases at least, hair changes with age. The ends get dried out faster, the grey ones come and even though they grow from the same follicle that used to grow a brown one, say, the hair is coarser and maybe curlier. And those grey ones can be very uncooperative, unruly, impervious to a battery of styling products and techniques.
Or maybe we just lose patience with hair products, blow drying, straightening, curling, bobby pins, yada yada yada. I would assume that younger women get more emails, on average also. All valid points. I grew up and was in high school when they had just "invented" unisex hair salons and short hair was all the rage, the was contrasted of course with Farrah and the whole Charlie's Angels thing. My hair was kept short until high school because it is thin. Kept it long for five or six years and then whacked it off one day, it is curly, it looks good short, substantially shorter than it is now, and took me less than 5 minutes to take care of.
Grew it long again and kept it long until I had my first child and then my ex, who preferred long hair, told me to cut it because he was tired of me yelping when the baby got hold of it which she seemed to manage to do even when it was up. My hair is so curly that styling it was ridiculous and the only way I could guarantee that it would look good on any given day was very short or long enough to do the bun thing.
When I was around 25, I finally figured out that long or short, if I let it do what it wanted to do it looked good. I keep it the length it is now because either because of chemical changes after an illness two years ago or simply from aging, it gets to a certain length and breaks off and looks like hell despite the fact that I never blow it dry or curl it and have never colored it. At this length, it takes me all of 2 minutes to take care of when wet and I'm good to go. Run my finger's through it once an hour later when it is dry.
I think the age thing is also partially due to social expectations that have never really gone away. When I was a teen, I remember my mother remarking that some women looked ridiculous "at their age" with long hair, but it seemed that really old women that were gray and would wear their hair in a bun were okay, weird. Women ten years or so younger than my mother who will be 79 in two months, had started wearing their hair long when they were past the age that it had been previously acceptable.
I think for most women, it is personal preference as well as what works with their hair. My daughter has donated he hair twice to Locks of Love and hers is so thick and curly if it was short, she would look psychotic so I don't think it will ever be shorter than shoulder length.

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 8:33:22 AM | Oh and here's another thing ladies. Some of you get a bug to do the "poodle cut", or the tight curls. It looks stupid. It ALWAYS, without exception, looks stupid.
Just sayin'

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 8:40:51 AM | | how funny...I've had really short hair and I've let my hair grow long....I'm the same person. I have really thick curly hair...short hair is nice and cool in summer and long hair keeps me warm in the winter. | |

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 8:44:18 AM | | Cutting my hair as short as it is now is probably the best thing I've ever done for my image. It takes very little effort to manage (just about as much as it did when it was to the middle of my back) and I can colour it more because I'll just cut it off in four weeks anyway! | |
|
| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 8:49:23 AM | It irritates me when men write to me and only mention my hair and nothing else about me. Can't they think of something else to write? In some cases, it seems that any other personality traits I may have (even incompatible ones) are of little interest to them. I still respond to almost all emails unless they are rude, or overtly sexual in nature. Text-speak and nonsense messages just get a "No thanks." But one day I will test the theory of long vs. short! Only because I am starting to feel pressured from a variety of sources that my hair is not "age appropriate."
It seems that my hair has become a classic example of "What not to Wear." Anybody get that show? Stacey and Clinton would cackle with glee if they ever saw my hair. I could only imagine Stacy London screeching at me "My God! In addition to having long, outdated locks, you are still wearing acid-washed jeans!" But at least it's not a mullet.

I have noticed that for some reason woman with ong beautiful hair seem to be harder to get close to. Woman with short hair will always e-mail me back and initiate e-mail. So my question to woman with long hair is, are you more picky or what? Or maybe you have full mailboxes?
As a member of the medium to long hair category you are referring to...I call B/S!
I don't think me having said length of hair makes me any more "picky" than the person who is short haired, bald, receding hair line, etc...it's called "preferences".
Maybe, concidence...that the ones who have responded, or initiated contact with you...had/have short hair, but, to lump ALL long haired women...into one mode is like saying....ALL women who are over weight are lazy, or ALL men with big hands have a big penis. lol...I think (I stress think) you are looking for an excuse other than for whatever reason, they are just not interested.
As for maintenance/grooming ...only thing I can **** about having long hair is, it takes longer to blow dry...but it is my preference to have the hair length, with the underline on MY.

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 9:24:55 AM | | OP: I've always been more attracted to women with short hair, e.g., shoulder length or so, rather than long hair. At the same time, as long as it is clean, that works for me. | |

Cheshire,
Unlike the people on the show, you don't need the help of Stacy and that other girl.
I'd love to see what kind of story The Onion could come up with about What Not To Wear - could be hilarious!

there is nothing worse than going out with a women who has , dried out, jagged edges and split ends. just looks like she doesnt care about her appearance. and if its an old hair style it just makes you look older than what you are.

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 10:11:16 AM | Thanks Ms. Rita, love the new username. Sorry Justin, that what my mom and dad wrought looks stupid but the whole poodle curl thing is the way my hair looks best atm. I'm sure mom will be devastated. But thanks, I can now blame my single status on my hair. | |

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 10:26:57 AM | Chesirecatalyst your hair style looks quite in to me. The sweeping bangs over the eyes is in! No way would they be able to do a fashion don't on your hair!
I actually did a thread on washing hair, "when it comes to washing your hair, less is more." http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts12028097.aspx Healthy hair is great!

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 11:03:22 AM | | I recently cut my hair off it was pretty long and curly the first cut still got attention when I went out to clubs and parties I got more attention. Now when I go out not some much attention from strangers but guys that know me personally love it. I do miss my hair very much tho. I bet sex will be different without it as well lol | |
|
| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 11:09:57 AM | My hair is long...not because it's attractive to men, but because I like it that way.
When I was a kid, my mother always kept my hair short in "pixie" haircuts, when I wanted it to grow long. Ever since I was old enough to make my own hair decisions, I've liked to have it long...
|
| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 11:17:50 AM | I'm not really interested in what other people think about my hair... or whether they like long hair or short hair. I'm surprised this many people are interested. Its a personal choice...how you wear your hair...who the heck cares? Seems like there must be other stuff we can riled up and defensive about?

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 1:19:05 PM | I am not into blow-drying my hair. When my hair was long, I dried it naturally. But most of the time, I had to tie it up even when wet because it was too thick and naturally wavy. That caused my dizzy spells, according to my doctor. All the men in my family were against my cutting it. I started wearing it shoulder-length and I think that was the sexiest style I had, mainly because of the compliments.
Now I am wearing it short because I cut and style it myself. I am not comfortable going to the salon due to my allergies. I find short for me is the easiest to maintain. My only regret is that I love wearing hats and somehow I cannot wear all kinds of styles with my short hair. Plus during winter, that extra hair kept me warm.

I posted this on a paid singles site and got beat up pretty bad by the woman. I am going to put it out on this site. Don't be too harsh on me! LOL
I have noticed that for some reason woman with ong beautiful hair seem to be harder to get close to. Woman with short hair will always e-mail me back and initiate e-mail. So my question to woman with long hair is, are you more picky or what? Or maybe you have full mailboxes? I am not saying that woman with short hair are not beautiful or sexy. I just think that men seem to love long hair more. Ok... Let me have it! LOL OP -- It's probably got more to do with social conditioning than anything. The idea of short hair on a woman, or long hair on a man was something unheard of for how long?
And now that both camps have tried both ways, it's still a social condition to many of them. They see a man with long hair and he is immediately ruled out. A woman is seen with short hair and she gets the same treatment. The simpler version of this is as follows:
Barbie had long hair.
Ken had short hair.
The end.
Sad as it is, this was the prototype for many generations to come. Women should have long hair, and men should not. Unless I missed the "Ken gets in touch with his inner rockstar" version...these dolls stand as the "ideal" to most. They grew up with them.
Hair styles have stigmas attached to them as well.
Long hair on a man can mean unruly, unkempt, slovenly, "bad boy", hillbilly, gay, and so on. Short hair on a woman can mean butch, feminist, "bad girl", lesbian, and so on. Certain social stigmas also follow hair trends. It just happens that way.
In the end though it'll all boil down to personal preferences based on a lifetime of mental manipulation by the media and the family and society. Some will accept the status quo, and others will soundly and firmly reject it. Just depends on the individual.
From a personal standpoint...I won't date a woman with short hair. I'm a victim of a lifetime of social conditioning and thusly I can't ever see myself with a woman who has short hair. Even so far as to say if she had long hair when we met, and she hacked it off later on...she'd be dumped. Yep, I've done that before too. True it's just hair, but to me and the conditioning I exposed myself too all my life, it's just not right for her to have short hair.
I suspect the "ideal" will be more likely to receive messages. Those that don't fit the "ideal" will get some messages, but dramatically less I imagine.
Preferences. We all have them.
