Barbie had long hair.
Um, the Barbie doll that I had around 1965 had VERY short hair.

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 3:18:45 PM | After I had the bubble cut Barbie, I got one with short brown hair. The long blond hair is a more modern transformation. Solo in the spotlight I think is the first one I had. A gift my dad gave my mom, but I wanted to play Barbies with my sister and my mom pulled that out of the dust in her closet.
I do admit to putting a half slip on my head and pretending I had long blond hair as a little girl. Woppie Goldburg (sp?) did the show/monologue saying (I think) she used a tee shirt to have long blond hair. I think it was more of a Cheryl Tiegs that made us want to be blond with beautiful hair. I don't remember anyone wanting to be Twiggy.
Guys under 45 may have played with the long haired Barbies

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 3:31:06 PM | Fun thread. Thanks, all!!
'Spect Gwen's right about society's view on hair. Wider and deeper, too. Orthodox Jewish women with their wigs; nuns shaved heads. . . .
Mine's been long and short (I do mean short: buzz cut). When it's long I get told how pretty it is; when it's short, I get told how pretty I am, lol! For me, long is simply easier to care for. Bad hair days simply turn into loose bun days, with wispies. I don't blow dry it, and since I use river water, it stays pretty shiny. My guys have liked it. I like it. So everybody's happy.
I does answer most of my mail. But OPie's a hoot: a short, fat, bald accountant just looking for a reason he can't get responded to. . . . I doubt he needs to look that far. . . .

"For those non-relics out there, Barbie of MY generation had long hair"
Better now? | |

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 4:01:40 PM | Wow ... BDJ you are too much. Dumping a woman because she would cut her hair. I love the depth of your connection with women. But after all this is POF forums and nothing surprises me at all. Just a whole lot os shallow people as usual.

OMO Whatever. You're entitled to your opinion. At least I'm honest about it. You think I'm the ONLY man that would do that, or has done that? Get real.
Seriously.
I'd dump her if she got inked up too...wanna toss in a comment about that as well?

Rudeness and ridicule do not become you. You'll be old someday, too.
Besides, if we are digging for the reasons for the aura of long hair, you'll have to go much further back in history than your callow and recent childhood--as I have already explained.

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 6:06:37 PM | I can't believe that I just sat through all those posts about hair.
I've hear it said that "Clothes make the man and hair makes the woman". So what does that mean? If we all get naked and shave our heads what would we be? Are we nothing more than our outward appearance?
OP, judging whether someone is approachable by the length of their hair is pretty much a waste of time. Have you taken in consideration age, attractiveness, distance from you, difference of religion, height, weight, hobbies, interests, smoke/non-smoker, alcohol consumption, education......... along with the length of hair?

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 6:27:52 PM | Funny thing I just cut my hair after a good 10 years of wearing it long... I'll let you all know if it ruins my dating life or not....
I like my hair long... and I was bored and I have a friend who had brain surgery last year and her hair just doesn't seem to want to grow on that side. I decided to show her that hair IS just hair and cut mine off.
I don't believe that it will change my habits as far as answering emails however... I don't correlate my hair length with my email habits.... mmmm I will get back with you on that one too...
I think feminity has more to do with attitude and how you carry yourself. I can sashay across a room and feel sexy with short hair as well as long... and the man who notices is most likely the one I'd choose anyway....

It will however change the age of the ones emailing me....lol

Next time get the twist outta your drawers before posting jabs...
There's a reason it doesn't become me...'cause that wasn't the intent. Too bad you just couldn't see it.

Actually, I am quite sarcastic, but after being in these forums for a loooooong time now, I have sometimes THOUGHT a person was being sarcastic or satirical and found out that he/she was dead serious. Now, I tend to take people at what they write.
My apologies.

Seriously.
I am calling bull crap on your comments.
It is well known here that there a that choice few that try to run the forum show, and push their crap on others as being right, and only their opinions are right. Then right in the very next thread ...
IF (and I mean if such a thread was started, my speculation would be: )
"IF a man was dating a woman and he cut his hair and she dumped him because of that we all know those who would jump right down that woman's throat as being shallow and such."
There is big differences in inked as some call it, but for many reasons a woman might cut her hair as a man might and being dumped because of it just shows that that man is not in it for the long haul.
If a man so called loved a woman for her personality and such and she had say breast cancer and lost her breasts then I can only imagine the type of man I would want to be with, and it would not be someone who would dump me if my hair was cut, burned off, or what the hell ever. HAIR grows back.
That is the ONLY reason I come back to the forums, I just love to see the true character of people.
Your showing your true colours for sure.

Wow you just don't give up do ya?
No matter. Talk til you're blue in the face for all it matters. I have better things to do than defend myself to trolls.
As you were. | |

I'm a victim of a lifetime of social conditioning and thusly I can't ever see myself with a woman who has short hair. Even so far as to say if she had long hair when we met, and she hacked it off later on...she'd be dumped. Yep, I've done that before too. True it's just hair, but to me and the conditioning I exposed myself too all my life, it's just not right for her to have short hair.
I can't imagine dumping a woman cuz of her hair. Seems petty to me. Same with getting some ink. If you really care, then who cares?
But what struck me was you claiming it is just a result of your conditioning. Seriously? And not involuntary, but voluntary since you also said you exposed yourself to it.
Sorry that's a cop out. It seems to me that if you were disturbed by being conditioned you would act to break it woudn't you? And if you aren't then it's just a preference. And there is nothing wrong with that. You are entitled to liking whatever you like.
But conditioning? Seriously?

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 7:10:53 PM | BDJ - I have to admit I am shocked to read that you wouldn't even consider dating a woman with short hair. By short I'm not talking crew cut - like not dead straight long.
I've tried having longer hair but do you know that it really and truly doesn't suit my face..............even my ex husband said he preferred it shorter. Any guy I've ever dated has said the same thing. It suits me and my personality because I'm told that I'm "cute". Yes the word gets annoying but the point I'm trying to make is you have to do what works for you or you won't project who you are.
Now for example I have already expressed my dislike for men with long hair (that being anything that looks like a girl's hairstyle). So even though a man with shoulder length hair may say "oh she doesn't mean me" - yes actually I do. However, in saying that, I know myself well enough to know that if I did happen to meet the most wonderful man and he had long hair I wouldn't run a mile without getting to know him first.

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 7:12:25 PM | I have been in more than one relationship where a guy has said if I got my hair cut he was out.
I have almost always had long hair because I like it. If I had gotten it cut would they have left? I have never thought about it but since every guy I have dated has been mad crazy about my hair, I am not going to tempt fate to find out.
|
| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/29/2009 7:20:01 PM | The truth is you should cut it if you feel like cutting it. Be who your happy being and look the way you want to look.. If A guy tells you that he is out if you cut your hair, tell him he can hit the bricks right then because its your hair not his. Just my opinion! Option B: You could tell him you'll keep the hair but you really think he would be hot with the abe beard with no mustache and if he shaves it your out! | |

pixy, that was awesome of you to do that for your friend, especially if you had liked it before ( I have a hunch it stung more than you admit at the time). What an incredibly nice gesture, and you look awesome with it.
Kudos to you; and anyone worth knowing will be wowed by you with it as it is now.
What a kind gesture, and what an adorable result.
Kudos again. | |

| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/30/2009 12:05:16 AM | I just had a thought. Can you imagine that's possible? After all, I AM blonde! lol. Wow! So much discussion on this topic! I had no idea hair could be a heated topic!
So, as I was thinking...Could it be possible that women with short hair prescibe to a more open-minded view of what beauty is? That would explain why they might be more likely to e-mail an ugly bald guy. ?? lol.
|
| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/30/2009 12:13:15 AM | | i've always had short hair in h.s., and i was super picky then. since college, i've always had a long hair, and i noticed i'm a bitmore lenient. i think my choices are based on experience though....not the hair. then again, those experiences could be based on guys liking me cuz of the hair...which in itself is a different argument. | |
|
| Long vs short hair Posted: 6/30/2009 12:43:46 AM | | It really doesn't matter if a girl has long or short hair. If you've got a pretty face, you're pretty. Rock the bald look if need be. | |
