| Fellow world travelers? Where have you been, and where do you want to go?
Posted: 7/19/2009 6:22:54 PM | Hello! I am new to this site, so let me introduce myself to my fellow travelers.
I am a US traveler with a dash of international. I have been to most of the states, but not all just yet. My favorite is Hawaii, by faaaaar! I especially love Kauai. No matter how many times I go, I can never seem to get enough. I also travel to Vegas twice a year for business, with a side trip to one of the neighboring states tacked on. The Grand Tetons are one of my favorite destinations in the Continental Us, although I have only been there once. I have traveled to Canada many times and once each to The Bahamas and Mexico.
My last vacation was a return trip to Kauai. My next three trips will be to Vegas, Florida, and Gatlinburg.
What is the worse thing about my trips? About half the time, I travel by myself. | |

Posted: 7/23/2009 2:13:52 PM | So far I have been to: Paris, Amsterdam, Portugal, Spain, Ibiza, Italy - Rome, Venice, Milan, worked in Greece for 6 months. Emigrated to South Africa lasted only 3 months!, visited Jo'burg, Cape Town, Pretoria. Been to Kenya, Marrakesh, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Cuba and of course NY city and Florida. Loved Brazil and Mexico, I have been to most of these places with my Children so do not be put off taking children overseas they have always been welcomed and coped with all the food combinations, heat, and travelling for long hours.
One day would love to do to the Transiberian express across Russia, And travel round the coast of India, and spend some time in South America.
Plan on seeing the UK when I can no longer travel overseas. Although I am a true Londoner born and bred here I have not seen much of my own country!I believe we have a beautiful country steeped in history, and I guess there is no place like home.... | |

It is awesome, I have never seen the highlands before and we have orange beaches up there (beaches are my thing), lochs, caves, waterfalls, mountains and I luved it. I want to visit iceland although have promised my son a trip to the pyramids so the next holiday is Egypt. | |

I'm planning a trip to Eastern Europe and Greece next summer, it should be awesome! | |

Posted: 7/26/2009 8:35:52 PM | Haven't been to Gatlinburg for quite a few years but have enjoyed several adventures there in the Winter and also in the late Spring when I went to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood. Gatlinburg is such an unusual place, set in the valley as it with a river running through it and a ski lift coming down right in the center of the village... love it.
Was on a 12 day cruise a couple of months ago of Hawaiian Islands, loved Kauai, Maui and the tropicalness of all the islands. Our ship sailed by and turned around to sail by again as we passed the Kilauea Volcano flowing into the sea at 10pm, WOW! Taking my fourth cruise to Mexico in October, new itinerary this time, Sea of Cortez, Topolobampo and LaPaz, haven't been there before. I'd live on a ship if I could, just love that mode of travel now.
I've been to Europe many times, most recently I've traveled to Slovania and Croatia. Venice and Switzerland are by far my most favorite places, Alaska is right up there too.
Have been to Yosemite three times in recent years, what a magnificent park in my own state.
My monthly trip is a visit to Reno, nice to receive comps, enjoy being pampered in a resort atmosphere and lucky to be able to fly there in less than an hour from SFO.
I was a tour coordinator for four years and organized trips for groups now I just do it for me... still looking for that right someone to join me. | |

In the United States - Washington State, Oregon, Nevada, Colarado, Montana, Oahu - Hawaii, Houston - Texas.
In Europe, I travelling throughout France - travelling north, south, east and west to most the major tourist attractions and popular cities, Monte - Monte Carlo, and Barcelona Spain. | |

Born in the US, but I've spend a good amount of time in Greece, Turkey, Israel, Jordan, Cyprus, Germany, Lichtenstein, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Taiwan, Philippines, a number of Caribbean island nations and a few places I don't even care to recall.
I now spend much of my time split between the US and the Eastern Caribbean with plans on cruising down the chain to South America over the next few years. Love to travel and meet new friends and taste new foods locally made and maybe a local drink or two
I've met backpackers in the middle of the Jordan's deserts who had walked up from South Africa on their way home to Wales. While sailing I probably came across people from every major sailing nation making friends with many, some I still keep in close contact after years apart.
What I love most about traveling is getting into the local areas as much as possible and seeing first hand what differences various locations have from what I've seen. I use to be surprised at how many differences and how many similar things exist at any particular location, now I just file it away and enjoy both sides of the equation. I tend to frequently avoid the tourist areas but sometime they can be fun to. | |

See the thing I wish I could improve about my trips was the amount of time I was able to spend in each Country or State. ou can see everything but, to really love or hate a place I think you have to live there a while. | |

I have been lucky enough to have traveled the continental U.S. In addition to that, I have visited the following countries twice: Germany, Italy, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Holland, Czech Republic and most of Mexico as well. My next trip will be to England since I've heard its more expensive I am forced to hold on until I can have more money saved before I can actually travel there. There are so many places I would like to travel that there is no end to the list. | |

Posted: 8/24/2009 6:49:36 PM | I've been to Italy twice, Germany twice (via Lufthansa's stopovers on the way to Italy) and Paris. I'd like to revisit all of them (I can't watch Under the Tuscan Sun anymore, as it gives me ideas).
I would like to visit anyplace that has ruins/age or natural beauty. Middle-earth would be nice. | |

Over 15 islands in the carribean including St Barts, St Thomas, Dominican Republic, St Croix, Barbados, Antigua, St Maarten, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago and more
Also.. England, France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Greece & Italy
& I want to go everywhere. I want to travel across Canada first, then the rest of europe & the uk such as amsterdam and holland, and scotland & ireland, Then africa such as kenya and Egypt then maybe travel to places in the states if there's time. :)

there are companies in queenstown , in new zealand, which offer helicopter drops in remote places, talked to a few people when i was there, who had used these services, apparantly , great | |

Outside the US, have lived in Germany, Austria, the UAE, and Turkey.
Where do I want to go? Can't think of anywhere I don't want to go, except to a country that is in the midst of war (such as Iraq) or a place that is violent and unstable because of anarchy (such as Somalia). My plans for the near future include Croatia (again, another are of it), Egypt (again another region than where I've been before), and I'm not sure where else. I have been to many countries more than once but also, more often, go to places I've not yet been. | |

- Being at Ta Prohm temple in Angkor at sunset
- Sunset, then sunrise on the Annapurna Range in Nepal
- Having a few beers outside an old mansion on a canal-laced island in the in the Mekong Delta while the tidewaters almost come up to the mansion
- Riding down the World's Most Dangerous Road in Bolivia, descending into the clouds and noting you can't see the bottom of the sheer drop on one side of the road
- Getting to Trannsylvania on the train at night and finding it as gothic and creepy as it is portrayed in the movies
- Buying an antique schimtar in a casbah out in the desert in Morocco
- A technicolor sunset like you've never seen on Mount Kinabalu, Borneo while fighting altitude sickness
- On the top of Huayna Picchu in Peru, watching Macchu Picchu disappear and reappear in the clouds
A couple more I'd like to experience:
- A tall ship
- Hiking in the Karakorum Range in Pakistan, if it ever settles down there
- Spice Islands in Indonesia | |

so far....
kenya 3x, gambia, senegal, egypt 6x, turkey, tunisia, malta, rhodes, thassos, kos, kalmynos, menorca 10x, majorca 3x, sweden, denmark, holland, france, germany, mainland spain (barcelona) going again at the end of sept. dominican republic, mexico, texas, philly, (and im sure there are few more that i cant recall!) most have been independently rather than 'package deals'.
im hoping to do a round the world trip with my daugher in 6 years when she hits 18, taking in india, bangladesh, thailand, cambodia, vietnam, malaysia, australia and new zealand.
and im really looking forward to a long weekend in the barcalona area at the end of september with a really good friend of mine! | |

I am American and have seen much of the U.S. growing up ,my father loved to just take us all over but I always wanted to go to London . I finally got my wish and now every year for the last 4 I go back .I have traveled to Italy - Rome & Florence , Amsterdam , Mexico - Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Jamaica , Haiti, Grand Cayman. I have booked my next trip back to London for November and am planning the details for my vacation to Santorini Greece in June 2010. I have friends that ask why all the traveling ? It they ever went they'd never ask again . The things and places and people and food have all been so incredibly interesting and delicious . As long as I can walk and afford it I will keep traveling . As far as England ,you could travel every year and still not see everything there's to see. Beautiful country . | |

What's with all these tropical places people? No ski bums in house? I want to hit Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Sweden. I would love to go skiing in Japan someday too.
I'm planning a trip to Chile in the next year or two...go snow skiing in August!!!
