Its much nastier than it said on TV about it being a''mild thing that you get over in a couple of days''.

Like all colds / flu etc. it will vary from person to person.

My 24 y.o. son has been feeling very under the weather for a couple of weeks now; sore throat, headach, aching limbs, temperature, lack of appetite (for him that is bloody serious! ), etc. etc. He has still gone to work every day although I've been telling him that he needs a few days rest.

I finally managed to get him to ring the doctor yesterday, although he's beginning to feel a bit better. The doctor said "It sounds as if you've had Swine Flu but are getting over it now".

I am finally feeling better now and my joints and bones are no longer hurting except for my wrist, my energy is back too.

It altogether lasted for about 4 weeks :( so it might have been the swine flu, as one of my doctors initially claimed but I never had high fever, nothing above 37.7

It is so many cases around, a friend called this morning saying her 5 year old was in hospital with temperature and screaming with headache and was diagnosed with swine flu, now she is ill, but she has stomachache and feeling exhausted and no energy and pain in her joints.

Most of the kids from my sons school got better after few days of crisis and were back to school

It is strange how UK has so big number of cases comparing to the whole Europe as the first cases in UK and Spain ( or Israel for example) started appearing at about the same time in April.

I think either UK government is too transparent and others not or other countries maybe have milder form of swine flu.

A friend of mine's boyfriend has been put into isolation for a week with suspected swine flu. They are supposed to be going on a holiday to Greece in 10 days.

If he is confirmed to have it, will he be able to fly?

haha, labdien.

I realised what I'd wrote when it was too late to edit. Yes, when pigs fly.

But, seriously, I've got first shout on the holiday if he can't go, so I'm wondering whats the chances.

Yesterday I was out of action for a day. I'm guessing it's swine flu as normal flu has no effect on me and I have never had a cold. The last time I was ill was when I got chicken pox as a child.

My symtoms were aches and pains, sickness, headache and tight neck. It lasted 24 hours.

Does this mean I'm now immune to swine flu or will i get flu like symptoms again if i catch it the the future?

Sorry to hear you weren't well knob-head.

As far as I know you're immune to the current strand, but once it mutates you could catch the next batch.

At least it shows you have a strong immune system, so stay healthy and you should be good.

If you think you have Arthritis then i suggest you browse the internet instead of consulting your doctor. There are lots of different supplements available which could help , all much preferable to anything the doctor would prescribe. Be wary of taking ' Non Steroidol Anti Inflammetry tablets , short term they will relieve the pain but long term deffinately will do far more damage to your joints . Remember ,Doctors know about illness & sickness , drugs etc . Most of em know very little about natural supplements . So if you wanna stay fit & healthy keep away from Doctors. !
I would guess that one of the reasons that we here in thr UK appear to be suffereing more from Swine flu than the rest of Europe is due to our dependance on the NHS . Most people havent a clue about their own bodies & run to the doctors at the first sign of a headache, other Europeans treat themselves with knowledge handed down over the years . In this country that sort of thing is scoffed at by the media & most GPs too, in fact this Government has been trying hard to outlaw countless products for years . It's down to ourselves to take care of our health , apathy & ignorance can be fatal . Use the internet & educate yourself , its your life .

On a lighter note , whoever kisses a Pig deserves all they get .........Sorry couldnt resist that .

Hi op,

Ive just been diagnosed with arthritis in my back..after years of sleepless nights and putting up with the pain...It wasnt after the flu tho...
I realised there was something wrong when i gave up smoking and literally fell apart..thought it was because i was putting on weight..which i havnt lost..even tho ive been smoking again for 4 months now.
Ive been advised to give up all red meat and veg, dairy and caffeine...apparently pineapple is good and ever thing green..except peppers..lol
Its the wrong acids attacking your body..so if u can live on lettuce you could become a model...lol
Also theres a good website for exercise....called...wait for it...............Askmen.com
but thats only for backs sufferers like me...not that i'd ask a man for help..or advice..they're crap..lol..only joking guys....not really!!

Mild Arthritis in my knees, but it's heredatory and probably due to the number of accidents I had when I used to do competetive cycling... Nothing to do with any form of Flu though... Doesn't stop me doing my silly party trick at parties, Christmas with the family or Chilling out watching a DVD

I was diagnosed with Reactionary Arthritis back in the 80's (arthritis free now). It was caused by a virus. It seems that only a small percentage of people are even susceptible to this virus because of genetic make up. I was one of the unlucky few. I picked up the virus by drinking unpasteurized cow's milk which I was buying from a neighbors farm. Who knew?

Swine flu > google it and you'll get the NHS website where you can tick the symptoms and get an instant diagnosis. If they think you may have it, you will be issued with a number for Tamiflu which you have to ask your flu buddy to get for you as you are not allowed out of your house for a week.

The course of Tamiflu lasts 5 days, twice a day. It is proven to speed up healing by close to 2 days.

If you do get the Tamiflu you may also get a pack through the post with a test tube and a prepaid envelope. You are asked to fill out a form (totally voluntary) and take a swab of your nasal cavities, put the Q-tip in a little bottle with a yellow liquid, seal the bag and post it in the biohazard envelope. Two weeks later they will let you know if it was swine flu.

Now as to getting arthritis after a viral infection - sad, but true. Just be grateful it wasn't M.E. as that is a horrible disease that can leave you paralysed.

Arthritis has its periods when it is active and you have a lot of pain, so much pain that no position of your limbs can ease it. Painkillers are the order of the day as well as topical heat (whether by special creams or by applying a hot pack on the affected joint) though some people swear they feel better after a cold pack -you'll find out what works best for you. Massage helps a lot - maybe it is the body heat transfer that does the trick and also the fact that someone cares enough to offer you this comfort, I am not sure.

There is no set time for the arthritis duration. Some people get it just for a few days, others for weeks and others for months. The same goes for the remission periods - nobody knows how long they will last. You can go to bed feeling fine one night and wake up the following day unable to move!

Anyway, as with other chronic diseases, your body will get used to it, you will learn what activates the pain and what eases it and you will be able to manage it to an acceptable degree.

What is important to remember is that when you feel the pain, it is already too late. You should have stopped exerting yourself five minutes ago. Seriously! The moment you get an inkling that you are running out of energy, stop. It is not something to be ashamed of. It is self defence.

All the best.

I was diagnosed with rhuematiod and osteo in 1979 aged 5, and the doctor did not belive I could have these but it was the only thing he could think of as I had all the symptoms. 30 years on and still no one believed me and the chronic pain got worse, gout constaintly. Finally I pissed the drs of enough and put a complaint in and I was sent to a specialist and they diagnose me with Fibromialgia. Now I'm on 24 hour pain meds which some times help but the side effects are always there.

ahh what a pitty party this is..

The only think I can say is expect the pain to be with your for life and for it to get worse, alot worse. Don't get upset by it just accept it, so anything that is better than this is a bonus. If you can, try not to take pain killers find other ways of dealing with the pain. It will work better for you in the long run. If it turns out to be there for a long time or comes back to the degree that you cannot work and the rest of you starts to fail then you can focus on the side effects of the fucnky drugs they give.

Another way to put it is
your going to die at some point
Stop worring and start living !!

A bit sturn perhaps but I am tired, giddy, cannot focus and my short term memory dosen't work so well at the moment (you just got to love those side effects) and the pain is really there man.

I'm going to stop rambling now .. but truely .. Live Life Don't fear it.

BigRuss, you need to stop the medication. It is not helping you and it is damaging your health further. Been there, done that. My memory was also affected to the point I felt like I was losing it and then my eyesight got affected, too. Took a bit of time for my body to clear from the drugs but now I am happier to 'embrace' the pain and try to prevent flare-ups. Doctors here are rubbish - sorry to say this. They have so many patients and rarely remember your case off hand. They also do not follow you up properly, i.e. if you do not show up to ring you and ask what is going on, not to mention they have no idea about holistic medicine (medicine looking at you as a whole, not as a symptom... you may be sick because your house has toxic mould or because you are worried about finances, etc.) In all my years in this country there has only been one good doctor and it is no coincidence that while under his care I flourished.
