| TESTIMONIALS,what a crock of well im to polite, lol Posted: 7/1/2009 4:13:32 AM | Its odd, im sad that i dont have one but at the same time it all feels a bit strange to have someone bang on about how cool you are and what a wonderful person you are......but they didnt want to be with you either.
Maybe its a facebook like thing and people want to collect the to prove there worth as a human being?

| TESTIMONIALS,what a crock of well im to polite, lol Posted: 7/1/2009 4:29:07 AM | I couldn't agree more. They are mostly written by people who have never even met the person in question. Those with multiple testimonials along with a large "favourites lists" number are almost certainly attention seekers.
The site would be much better without testimonials and visible "favourites lists" numbers.

| TESTIMONIALS,what a crock of well im to polite, lol Posted: 7/1/2009 4:38:40 AM | I have two testimonials on my profile, both from people I have met and both unprompted. Neither of them were written with any hidden agenda and I appreciate having them there.
I have not yet felt the need to write a testimonial, but if I did I would.
The site would be much better without testimonials and visible "favourites lists" numbers.
The delete button gives you the option to have zero favourites and zero testimonials .............. sorted

And you based this comment on what evidence, precisely? Have you interviewed the writer of every testimonial on the site?
If so, I'm impressed!

An 'attention-seeker' on a dating site?
What are the odds?

Erm, I know.
And you based this comment on what evidence, precisely? Have you interviewed the writer of every testimonial on the site?
Yes...I've interviewed them all(!) I should say, for the pedantic, "based on my experience on this site, I have formed the opinion that most of the testimonial recipients that I've come across, and I'm taking it to be a statistically representative sampling frame, have never met the writer"....

In that case, beware how you use the word 'mostly' - it implies the majority of testimonial writers on the site, not the ones in your experience.
message 19 he certainly was not on my list of favourites
In that case, it was impossible for him to have written a testimonial for you - the site only allows those who you have placed on your faves list to write a testimonial.

Write more testimonials for other users here You can only write testimonials for users that have YOU on THEIR favorites list.
Ive just clicked on the testimonial button for someone who has added me as a fave but I dont have them as a fave.
It will allow me to write them a testimonial.

Wrong! You can only write one for people who have added you to their list.
Are you just a wind-up merchant Zeegary? Seems like it to me!

| TESTIMONIALS,what a crock of well im to polite, lol Posted: 7/1/2009 6:17:12 AM | ^^^ I thought it was possible too Kath, so I asked a friend of mine who has 3 testimonials on his profile. I believe for the testimonial to show, they have to add you too, or something.
I don't know, I don't bother with them.
As for favourites - I don't bother deleting them, they usually get fed up with me eventually and remove themselves!
Same friend as mentioned above has stopped removing himself of favourites lists - as soon as he does he gets added by the same people again.

No, I'm simply trying to explain to someone how it was impossible for someone to write them a testimonial if they hadn't added them to their favourites.
If Poster A sends Poster B a message, Poster A cannot write a testimonial for Poster B. If Poster B adds Poster A to their faves list, then (and ONLY then) can Poster A write a testimonial for Poster B. Poster B is then free to accept it or delete it in one of two ways:
1) They simply press the 'remove' or 'delete' button.
2) They remove Poster A from their faves list - the testimonial disappears.
Simple!
Wrong! You can only write one for people who have added you to their list.
Which is EXACTLY the same as the bit in my earlier post that you've just quoted, viz:
"the site only allows those who you have placed on your faves list to write a testimonial"
After all, you cannot place youself on someone else's faves list!

| TESTIMONIALS,what a crock of well im to polite, lol Posted: 7/1/2009 11:40:19 AM | | I did have 15 on the "who likes me" list, but I deleted them all as I don't chat to them. Now I have one (who I have chatted to and quite like on an interpersonal level). Testimonials are off-putting. I don't want to know if some sneering, creepy twat likes the same girl I do! | |

Testimonials are nice if the person knows you and is being genuinely sincere . Otherwise they are a joke . I've wrote two or three in the two years or so that I've been fishing these murky waters . For no other reason than I wanted too , because I knew , liked and respected the person .
Thanks DLT, glad to see you adore and respect me... (well you might not have said that but i think its right).] People who moan about testimonials are usually those who dont have them... they know they want them but the people they have on their favourites lists are people they have never spoken to who remove themselves when they realise some gommo with no friends have added them

| TESTIMONIALS,what a crock of well im to polite, lol Posted: 7/1/2009 1:04:41 PM | ^^^ Wrong...Because we dont want them because they smack of sycophantic desperation to make a person look popular/look at me, people love me...
I thought a testimonial could only be added to a profile with the approval of the profile owner...you know, like ....Yes, let me add that to my profile to say look at me I'm so popular and great
and what about tha ones that say he/she has a hidden talent...great kisser, cant wait to meet again...what a crock as the Op says

| TESTIMONIALS,what a crock of well im to polite, lol Posted: 7/1/2009 1:07:57 PM | ^^^^ What about the fact that sometimes people DO get talking on here and would like to maybe date the person and lives too far away or thinks that they are a really great person and would make someone a fantastic girlfriend/boyfriend and would love to see them meet someone nice? Or what about those of us who have been on here for literally years on and off and have met other forumites at meets and think they are really cool people and again would love to just say how nice the person is? What is the difference between having a few nice pics with a bit of make up on and someone bigging you up? Both are showing the best of someone | |
|
| TESTIMONIALS,what a crock of well im to polite, lol Posted: 7/1/2009 1:17:17 PM | They can show and speak their mutual approval privately...? Why does it have to be sickeningly publicly pasted for all and sundry to see and read...
Can anyone say that testimonials draw you to a person more? Or do they put you off?

It depends on what 's been written, obviously!
Why does it have to be sickeningly publicly pasted for all and sundry to see and read...
Only one of the testimonials I have ever written is still in existence, and it is anything but 'sickening'........I use the term 'scary' about 94 times in it, and at no point do I state my feeling for her - I'd be too scared to!

Absolutely.
Why are all the negative responses assuming that the testimonials are from people of the opposite sex, hankering after brownie points, or left on to show the recipient in 'a look at my popularity' way. (I have testimonials from one female and one male, neither of whom I have slept with or want to lol).
I think you can read the testimonials and judge what they are saying, and I wouldn't dismiss someone with a gazillion testimonials if they are saying what a sweet person this is that I met at a POF meet. If it said what a great shag they are I would move on
