| Please explain Love Posted: 7/1/2009 3:34:01 PM | | ^^^^Very interesting post lbiker....for me, Love brings some of the the opposite. Love brings clarity, it makes life more logical, it energizes me, and provides the freedom to allow the other to be all they can become. | |

You know you're in love when you don't want to fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams. ~Dr. Seuss Wise man.....now I know why I loved his books...
"Love comes when manipulation stops; when you think more about the other person than about his or her reactions to you. When you dare to reveal yourself fully. When you dare to be vulnerable." -- Dr. Joyce Brothers Ahhhh..yes....vulnerability. That's the tricky part. Here's my throat..bite it. But...when I love...you get all 110% of me. I am in swimming in your sea...

| Please explain Love Posted: 7/1/2009 8:49:35 PM | | Ahhhh...with love comes vulnerability....thats the catch...here's my throat...here's my body...here's my love...here's my heart...do with it as you will...but...please...don't rip all those out of me...and she said ok | |

On a hot summer night. Would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses? Yes.
^^^^Isn't that the absence of fear right there. One cannot become vulnerable without the absence of fear. And the absence of fear cannot be manifested without trust. Love is the happy result.

| Please explain Love Posted: 7/1/2009 11:23:23 PM | God is "love"...and if we accept God then love develops in our spirit......... Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast; it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things............this is a "true love". YES we are to love others as God says .
Love never fails.................................................................................Julie

God is "love" ^^^Please explain "God". To attempt to define "love" which is intangible to most, by suppositioning it to another intangible concept does not fully offer an explaination the OP seeks. Without your definition of god, one is left to make their own assumptions or reject the notion.

God is "love" So which God are we talking about here? Christian: Love thy neighbor ... unless they don't believe in the same things. Jewish: Oy ... love is a b!tch! Muslim: There shall be 42 virgins waiting in paradise to make love to you ... they may not be good looking, or even the right sex, but they will be virgins. Quetzalcoatl: If you love me you will sacrifice a virgin to me! Odin: Give me a horn of ale ... and pass over that lovely wench. Zues: hmmm ... what a lovely mortal women. I think I'll go down and give her some Godly love. Parvati: Wait till I'm done with my yoga ... then give me your Shiva.
|
| Please explain Love Posted: 7/2/2009 9:06:11 AM | | Love is not needy and it is not self seeking either. I think we're all just looking for companionship. Companionship does not replace love. There is such a thing called unconditional love but unconditional love is something that we're all not capable of doing. Yes we can love but not unconditionally. Love is patient, Love is kind, Love is faithful and it is forgiving and keeps no record. Love gives me a reason to love life that's what Love gives me. | |

| Please explain Love Posted: 7/2/2009 9:15:28 AM | This is just my opinion, but there are three types of love. Philos, Agape and Eros. Philos love is love for mankind and it is the kind that urges us to be philanthropists and problem solvers. It is commonly known as brotherly love. Agape love is the type of love that God has for his creation. Unconditional, no exclusions, nothing too horrible to kill it and everlasting. Eros love is the kind of love that affects the libido. Pheremones can produce a feeling of "eros" love but it is usually nothing but lust. Eros love is cupid with the bow and arrow...lol The three can overlap and separate throughout life. Mostly what you see today is lust mistaken for eros love. A woman who forgives her cheating spouse is practicing agape love. Mother Teresa was practicing Philos love and Agapa love. Love is a verb denoting action not a noun. Any form love takes, it requires a decision and an action. JMO | |

One cannot become vulnerable without the absence of fear I am not going to wade into the discussion because the posters here are doing a great job in dismantling it on their own (no, not a shot. really) and sometimes it's more fun just to read along.
However, on a nit-picky note, golfgirl, are we not always vulnerable? Fear does not make us so, nor the lack of it protect us from it. Fear is a warning device that exists because we are vulnerable.
I always told my kids that you can't be brave without fear. After all, if you're not afraid, then what's so darn brave about what you are doing?

| Please explain Love Posted: 7/2/2009 9:24:49 AM | Is it love we seek or just companionship. I think as one gets older they want someone more for companionship. Not me,,,,,,I still want the whole pk.
Is love a need or a want?I believe it is a want.. Often we may feel the need to be loved but only because we have so much love to give in return.. For me, I don't need it, it is something I want before I die,, to give and receive it,"true undying Love"
Is there such a thing as Unconditional love ? What we have for our children and family is unconditional love.
What does love give you? Love gives me comfort, a satisfied feeling , a kind of peace, Happiness, often fulfillment..a feeling of belonging, two hearts beating as one. Love is one of the most beautiful things in the world....when you find it, hold onto it with both hands,,treasure it..
No words can define true love,

Golfgirl, I think OzarkPainter has described both quite adequately:
The scripture from Corinthians, does indeed describe the qualities of love, I was more curious as to the posters understanding of how she views how god relates to love, and what her definition of god was. I didnt want to make any erroneous assumptions.

"Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own." -- Robert Heinlein
Robert I read that several years ago and it's my top belief on the subject of love.
As for unconditional love I believe it started with the bible and gods words for his feelings for us. Sorry, didn't read all the posts....
|
| Please explain Love Posted: 7/3/2009 2:24:45 AM | "True Love is loving someone because of his quirks, not in spite of them." Love is all about accepting your significant other for who he/she is. | |
|
| Please explain Love Posted: 7/3/2009 2:25:00 AM | 1. I's say love is a need. We all need to feel loved. There are many different types of love. ie. couple's love, maternal love, friendship love, filial love etc etc.
2. I just learnt the hard way. No there is not for us humans....even being a mother you sometimes feel more or less love towards your children in function of the love feedback you get from them. We are humans and thus imperfect. The only true unconditional love we can have is from GOD.
3. To me loves gives me a soothing and content feeling.
4. Love makes the world go round.

| Please explain Love Posted: 7/3/2009 3:12:56 AM | "Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence"
Not to say the concept is folly or stupid, on the contrary; when objectives become subjectives, even in a non-romantic, non-sexual way, i'd like to think there's a bit of love involved.

| Please explain Love Posted: 7/3/2009 4:33:37 AM | How can one truly define what love is? Not even an experienced person can truly grasp or explain love to its truest and deepest meaning. Its concepts are just a never ending story of an open book of experiences. But love does lie in one's heart, where memories are but shadows lingering in your soul.
Love is characterized by the desire to want good things for that person no matter what. And you're willing to work out your problems together. And you can hardly breathe when you're around them. Even though you may see them all the time or hardly ever, it's as if you get that rush of what you felt when you got your first kiss.
