I guess you could say I am pretty religious.

I taught religion for thirteen years. I tend to believe that prayer and not
how our signs connect is more important in my relationships with
people.

The two most important relationships I had, one was a pisces - he was
a wet rag and one was an Aries and he was my best friend.

I dont think it had anything to do with sign compatability as much
as it had to do with the person. I did look up how we were together and
it turned out that Aries was a best friend, good partner and long term
was something that could happen between us. Pisces just turned out
not for me.

I cant exactly say I believed what I read but looking back I think it was
all my prayers and all the candles I lit in church that had more to do with it.

They both ended - even when the one was totally for me and should have been
forever - so no. I dont believe.

While I was being raised roman catholic (many moons ago), believing in and consulting any sort of astrologer, tarot card reader, psychic, etc., was considered a sin. Thankfully, I am now a recovered catholic and must confess that all my life, with my parents' approval and support, I've believed in and consulted astrologers, psychics and tarot card readers. In fact, I read cards. Organized religion sure can do a number on people. I chose what I decide to believe in, not someone robed and on the altar.

The horoscopes you find in the papers and online are so general as to be of practically no use. Every now and then they hit the nail on the head. You need to have your chart done by a professional astrologer who will use all the tools; place of birth, exact time, date.

I don't base who I chose to date by sign. My best relationships with been mainly with Leo's, one Cancer and friendships with women of all signs. Astrology can come eerily close many times.

On the other hand, I've never had a good friendship with anyone named Barbara or Donna. Didn't matter what sign they were; they always turned out to be b!tches.

"My current set of irrational beliefs prevents me from accepting another set of irrational beliefs."

wow. And then OP gets upset and flamed. But honestly, that is a good point.
And OP gets upset when 1 says this, but OP just said " Im a christian, anything
out side of it is irrational " /shrug?

Ok, YES i believe it do play a roll. Just because something wasnt invented
by 'God' or ' Men of God ' Dont mean its bad and its the devil. If that was said,
Science is the Devil and we dabble in it soo much, we will all suffer the raft!
Uh, no. Check it out. God wont hate you and others wont think you're weird
for checking up on it.

I'm a Pisces male.
Im very attracted to Aries. They never work out....
Pisces (Sign of water) - Aries (Sign of Fire) . Do water and fire mix?
That is the silly thought of it. Its like picking the strongest mascot from
a sports team to see who would beat who when thats just silly..
But once you read the long list of traits, you will learn " Oh wow!
im almost most of what they say about me! " Or, nothing like it..

It's a novelty, like reading a fortune cookie, playing the lotto, and depending on ones viewpoint, even religion. People take from it, or see in it, what they want, what they most identify with, and tend to ignore the rest.

That can be said for most of life though- why 2 people can go through the same experiences and come out with different version on how it happened and how it ultimately affected them.

That said, I think, too, there are people who hold this novelty up and keep it always in mind. It explains why on dating sites we always give our Astrological signs (or they ask for it to display on our profile). Even places like Myspace have this as part of their basic registration. I don't think it's healthy when it becomes more than a novelty, something cute or fun to think about on the side.

I won't lie, I own Linda Goodman's 'Love Signs', and a few other books. They're cute to read over when you're with someone, seeking some additional bond/connection.

Buuuut putting rational thought aside- Being a Pisces I've always been lucky in landing with Scorpios and other fish. They've all been very passionate, very wild affairs. Some have been a rollercoaster from day 1, some took time to develop. My most 'stable' relationships have been with persons not affiliated with a water sign, the astrological 'children'.

I've enjoyed the company of Scorpios the best, but in every single case they've been stubborn and willful, and in a few cases having some psychological problems. The fish I've been with, bar none, have all been day dreamers, 2 are artists, and not one could be counted on for anything domestic.

But see: am I seeing how things really are, or did I let this novelty taint my image of them? HMMMMMM

I too don't hold much faith in astrology. I read my stars from time to time out of interest to see how wrong they get it as much as how right. I have found that i am like my starsign characteristics and i reserve judgement on that. i certainly wouldn't like it if someone dismissed me from dating purely because of my starsign! that is abit insulting - after all it's the things that happen in our lives that forms the basis of our current personalities, which are evolving with each major event.

The interesting thing is, I like you have assessed the starsigns of past partners and friends and discovered intriguing results. My bestest friends are always sagittarius. i don't know any pisces and very few aquarius - till recently only my brother. i don't do too well with leo (am racking my mind for starsigns here lol). i was married to a virgo (meant to be my best match), normally attracted to other earth signs with aries and scorpio's being the ones that attract me but never last. recently found i've been around quite a few cancer since been mixing with different ppl. i do wonder if it's sort of true in that the main themes of earth, water, fire and air apply to ppl and so like ppl are attracted to like activities and so on.

end of the day tho we're all individuals and thank god for that!

It amazes me, how completely and utterly stupid you have to be, to believe that someone born on a birthday matching some arbitrary star chart would be a compatible partner for you.

I guess some people enjoy stupidity. I certainly won't interfere in their enjoyment.

Of their stupidity.

Do you people seriously believe that the arrangement of certain stellar bodies in our local galaxy determines your likelihood to find a good mate?

Jesus christ.

Jesus... jesus christ.

Well, at least you clearly read all the posts before letting us know how stupid we are, and offering your own insight on the subject.

Thanks.

"My current set of irrational beliefs prevents me from accepting another set of irrational beliefs."
Context, mate. Context.

Brilliant....

I once read that worldwide, on average, there were some 250+ babies born every minute... that would mean if astrolgy were to be taken seriously, there would be droves of people and of the billions of people world wide, that there would only be 12 basic types...

As for which sign people are born under... anyone with more than a toddlers understanding of astronomy would know that constellations only appear as 'figures' to the naked eye by happenstance...
Looking at the star from another angle would show the distances from one to the other to be incredibly huge and a totally different shape.....for example...Castor and Pollux the two main stars of Geminii are respectivley, 49 and 34 light years from earth... or in miles... well, a light year is
5,878,625,373,184 miles.... do the math.....

A far more revealing test... is to take the 12 signs, and their 'typical' descriptions of character.... then mix them up... read the description of a typical libra to a leo, or a sagitarrious to a taurus... invaraibly, someone thinks it describes them perfectly....

When you think that we are made of the same sort of matter as the stars and planets, perhaps it's conceivable that if we are conceived when they are in a certain sort of alignment, we will have certain characteristics perculiar to that alignment.

Umm there is no other sort of matter.... for that matter (pardon the pun) so is everything else in the universe... including dung....

ooo very interesting topic....I am a believer in the astrological signs of ppl......
I became interested when I noticed certain signs drove me nuts whereas others drove me crazy...lol
So now over the years certain signs draw me in whereas others make me RUN....and when I read what sign a person is I already know a bit of what I am up against....

Gems, Sag's, Aquarian's, Libra's and Pices I get along the best with.....

Here is a tip: when you read newspaper horoscopes, try reading your rising sign, not your sun sign. Your rising sign is the sign you look at to see what will happen in the future. You will find it much more accurate.

Your rising sign is the sign that was on the horizon of your horoscope when you were born. There are free websites that will do your chart and tell your rising sign if you know when and where you were born, the time of day and city.

Cancer men are my weakness and my downfall. Always the same with them......
It's funny but there are about seven signs that I have never been involved at all with. Also, I have had three boyfriends with the same birthday and two with the same birthdays as each other. September 27 for three of them and June 27 for two.

I am not religious, but do consider myself very spiritual. Astrology intrigues me, because as you have noticed we tend to gravitate toward certain signs with whom we are compatible, and we can see patterns of incompatibility with others.

It is not surprising that so many people think that astrology is hogwash, when you read the daily horoscopes in the newspaper. These are way too general and could mean just about anything. I am by no means an expert on the topic, but a good friend of mine is. She researches astrology to figure out the whys and whens etc. There is a very good astrology book that I have. "The Secret Language of Birthdays" breaks down the zodiac not only into months, but breaks down the various personalities, health issues, strengths and weaknesses, etc. for each specific birthday.

What are you best matches and are the same type of people that astrology claims you’re most compatible with?

My sign is Hit and Run, which astrology currently doesn't recognize.

Sorry, it's a baseball joke... [Woman: So, what's your sign? Man: Hit and Run. ]

The ones I really feel sorry for are those born when the Sun is in the thirteenth zodiacal constellation, Ophiuchus, where the Sun is for almost 5% of the year. I always thought it would be interesting to do a study on Ophiuchians and see if they were more screwed up than the average person on account of their getting invalid astrological advice all their lives.

Doesn't astrology kind of depend on the idea that the sun orbits around the earth?

I think it's fun to look at those books about compatibility when you have a new guy or whatever, but I would consider it really pretty loopy to take it seriously when it comes to making decisions about my life. I think it's one of those things that's FUN but not real....kind of like Harry Potter, or Buffy.

I loved the topic just because everything I have read so far falls into the bashing category of someone or another.

Not sure how much stock I put into the signs. I'm a Scorpio and have been told that my best matches are Taurus, Pisces, and Cancer. Amusing thing about some of the horoscope sites is different sites list different best matches. I find interesting coincidences with the signs. I personally am never too thrilled to find out that I am in a relationship with another Scorpio. Two Scorpios together seems like oil and water (just ask my ex ). Some sites say Scorpios are good matches for each other.

I think we tend to go looking for what we want in astrology. The generalized descriptions are pretty broad so how could someone not fall into that category of their sign. I don't totally dismiss it either. I'm pretty easy going. What is the expression from Ghostbusters? Do you believe in U.F.O.'s, astral projection, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, full-trance mediums, telekinetic movement, black and/or white magic, pyramidology, the Loch Ness Monster and the theory of Atlantis? If there is a paycheck in it...

I like astrology, and like to watch/listen to anyone new I meet, to try to figure out their sign...
As for compatibility though, I'm supposed to do best with earth signs, but I have some uncharacteristic traits for my sign, and am therefore impossible to match, lol... Damn, I just answered my "why am I this fabulous and still single question."
Sorry everyone, it's late, and I feel silly.

Seriously though, at present, I find I'm mostly attracted to, and actually do better with fire signs, excepting aries folks... I don't believe I've ever dated an Aries... My best/longest relationships have been with Scorpio, Aquarius (except for their ability to love the world, but not one person), and Libra. M

I tend to fall for Taurus and Virgo men...I'm a Capricorn and my rising sign is Pisces...every guy that I've found rather hard to let go of has been one of these two signs...don't know why, and I definitely DO NOT plan it!

While I read my horoscope daily, I don't base my life on it. But I do find it interesting when I have spent time with someone and can guess their sign! BTW, if you read about the characteristics of Capricorn and Pisces women, it pretty much describes close to 100% of my personality, so go figure!

Not much stock. I believe in the power of suggestion. You can get anyone to believe anything if you frame it right. Look at "the Secret", or " the power of positive thinking", or "transcendental meditation", or " Group/individual Prayer". If things go your way it works, if it doesn't you are doing it wrong.

I just had to say this: you're all stupid. All of you.
well, while your first remark was kinda smart, this one shows lack of social skills...I read and feel like I am talking to my son - smart cookie, who always thinks everyone is not too smart to get him intellectually.
Just out of curiosity, I look up your profile - and WOW, you ARE exactly like him - Gemini, born in yaer of Rooster...that's something

OP asks valid question, and there is always something we don't know, can't explain, or don't want to believe. I don't believe in God, but I do respect people's feelings...why not? Everybody can believe in what they want, and call them stupid for that won't change the belief.

Astrology has more in it than just day of the birth - it's an hour, place, year. Not like I rule my life by it, but I have to admit, analizing these patterns for 20+ years I can tell, there is something.
2 out my 3 husbands were Capricorns, and I tend to like these men. I am a Taurus born in year of Tiger (don't look at my profile - it's wrong) - and I noticed that it never works with air signs (I never had any stable relationship with Libra or Gemini), and even if not romantic, I totally understand misterious Cancer, calculating Virgo, cold and practical Capricorns, even whining Pieces

I tried to date Aquarius - very deep intellectual conversations, and no any streak of passion...sometimes I tell my firends about their dates w/o even knowing them what's gonna be a problem just on the basis of their horoscopes....it works 90+%...what doesn't work - is simply a deviation because there is social upbringing, family, life happens to everyone - it changes us.

However, we all are what we were born.

Well, that's you, and you've got a pretty tolerant personality. I have a different personality, one that compels me to tell people they're being stupid when they're being stupid. I guess it's a Gemini thing. Those goddamn Geminis!

I don't see a conflict between Astrology and faith. I wasn't raised that way at all. What I've come to believe is that the dark side took a perfectly sensible means of mathematically categorizing personalities and ran with it, taking its original purpose and turning it to their own "good".
In other words, take what you can from something but don't buy it lock, stock and barrel because like everything else, its become tainted.
My best choices are another Cancer, Scorpios and Pisces. My fatal marriages were to a Libra, a Gemini and a Capricorn.
For what its worth, I'll date any sign, but long term....who knows.
