If she had a pile of post 3ft high couldn't the postman have noticed and called the Police?/
Hams, the postie said he had only seen the woman once in 10 years of delivering her mail. I don't know how he didn't realise how much mail had piled up behind her door, even if you don't look through the letterbox you would surely hear it hitting the pile?

| Woman lays dead in flat for 5 years Posted: 7/5/2009 4:04:24 AM | Msg 25.........I quite agree Nats.
I understand that most postmen always do the same round every morning?
I'm sure if I'm wrong another forum member will let us know if that has changed or not
I know its not their duty to report these things to the Police but what happened to common sense?
Just to help as I see your still trying with the quoting box.
{quote} copy and paste the text you want to highlight here {/quote }
Just change these { } for these [ ] and bobs your uncle.

| Woman lays dead in flat for 5 years Posted: 7/5/2009 4:49:21 AM | I have new neighbours moved in next door,did my usual and welcomed them,made general conversation about settling into a new place.On ending the conversation i said that if they need anything ,just give me a shout......something that the community i was brought up in would do, and i meant it.I did think on it later......how many people actually do that nowadays? I remember when the old dears in the street would be a very useful part of the community....full of advice from a poultice to how to grow veg,babysitters,fantastic entertainers with their storytelling,problem solvers,looked after our homes when on holiday.......the list goes on.....in return,they were looked after.I personally think we got more from them.......very much our loss that we dont take the little time they do need from us. | |

OT I have had the same postie for the whole time I've lived here. Mail gets later every day but its the same postie!
I just wonder how many people ever knocked on her door? Gas and electric meter readers etc? I also wonder why the smell wasn't noticed
Hen, I agree, I remember when we were kids and used to go stay with our grandparents and my nan would take us out along with our cousins and about a dozen neighbourhood kids would tag along too, she was like the pied piper. God, I really miss her

It would never happen in England because some little bean counter at the local council would have written her 3 letters about not paying her Council Tax and them sent some dodgy bailiffs around with a warrant.

Its a very cold, uncaring society we live in, where people just think of themselves most of the time and cannot be bothered to spare a little time to help someone, and make a bit of difference. Very often now days if people ask for help they get ignored or told theres not enough funding or helpers or whatever. It makes me very sad that people have to end their lives this way, when they are actually surrounded by people who could have helped!!

| Woman lays dead in flat for 5 years Posted: 7/5/2009 9:19:33 AM | | The sad thing is rainbows is that before,when we had proper communities,a lot of these organisations did not need to exist or were not overstretched in the way they are now because the community gave support to each other.We are all very good at blaming the authorities when we should be looking at our own actions when it comes to helping people.How many of us stop to get to know the wee lass down the road struggling with her youngsters?......or the wee old woman who struggles with her shopping?..........or the disabled guy who we see sitting on his doorstep,always on his own?.......at least the services are trying,the rest of us are not. | |
