| Daily Mail - Women complaining that men over 40 dont want to give them a child Posted: 7/5/2009 5:23:32 AM | | ahem! I have just turned 50 this week and am a proud lone parent of a 14 yr old and a 22 yr old. I dont feel I have "trouble" keeping up with them, they are my boys simply that. I dont see myself as an old parent but i would draw the line at considering child birth in my 40's simply coz there are better things to do in your 40's lol xx hunni | |

Im not sure starting a family in your 40's is responsible...are you really able enough to keep up with teenagers in your 50's / 60's..?
As long as a woman is able to have a child naturally then I don't see the problem. However, the risk of abnormalities in the baby increases the older you get.
What I really don't approve of is the women in their late 50's and early 60's using donor eggs and IVF to have children. That is way too old and in those cases the kids could end up being their parents carer before the kids hit their teens

I did'nt start a family in my 40's, just added to it, you dont really believe that 50 and 60 year olds cant cope with teenagers do you? Its not old in this day and age, my folks are 84 and 86 and its only through mum breaking her hip that she's not as mobile as she was, other than that they get swamped with grandkids and great grandkids most days, and they love it!
I'm 50 now and wouldnt really want any more kids, but in my 40's it was never a worry to me.

I know a few men who have had kids late in life, they appear to enjoy it more than those who are fathers when young. Does a man settle down as he gets older and is he more ready for fatherhood in terms of patience, committment to family life etc?
Urban vvvvv Which box was the baby in?
Shagging Des O'Connor makes me feel quite ill, but I guess we all have it to come.

Well, for some of us, that's all that does!

There are many advantages to having the first child later in life, but I sometimes wish I'd done it much younger......and with a different woman!

My dad was 40 the year that I was born and he was 46 when my younger brother was born, he's always been a great dad, very involved in our education and a good role model. He's still a very supportive dad, despite suffering with various health problems he's still actively parenting me and being an involved grandad to my sprogs! He'll be 77 in a couple of weeks and I'm glad for every day that I still have him in my life.
VV LOL...PoF's very own rent boy! ..Do us lasses have to take a number and wait in line to be 'served'?

^^^ cats pj's - my dad was almost 40 when I was born and couldn't have wished for a better childhood, he was younger in his outlook than the young dads and certainly seemed to do more with us than I recall my mates' dads doing with them.

I had my sons young and was fit enough to run about playing football with them.
Its good to live long enough to see your kids grow up and start their own family and help where you can.
Doing kids once is enough without going through it all again when your old and not so fit.
