| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/29/2009 8:07:24 AM | Geez Pookie,I never thought Id see the day when Id say this to someone, but youre actually too arrogant to be an Eagles supporter! lol
Theres support for non WA teams here, but the vast majority either support Freo or West Coast and the Derby will always rate well, regardless of the ladder positions of both teams. Theres not a lot of WA on The Footy Show or Footy Classified and thats understandable given that theyre Melbourne based shows. Before Mick Malthouse was Collingwood coach,(the birds that dont fly lol),he was constantly moaning about the amount of travel his Eagles did compared to other clubs....but thats the way it is,theres 16 clubs and only 2 from WA,so well always travel more than anyone else.
The Derby certainly wasnt the best game of the weekend, but it was the game most people here would have been interested in. Theres a perception here that Victorians think footy is THEIR game and your attitude makes a bloody good case for that argument actually! lol

i dream of st kilda playing the filth in the grand final, i,ll bet my left one it will be the cats vs the saints!!! u heard it here 1st!!!! by the way, robfish, who do u support?????
I support West Coast (unfortunately), they are now a distant shadow of the powerhouse they used to be, just goes to show what can happen to a team when they lose players like Judd, Cousins, and Chick in a short period of time. I watched the derby over the weekend and it was the most woeful embarassing display of footy that I have seen since the flooding low scoring match between the saints and the hawks a few years ago.
As for the Saints, keep in mind that The Finals are completely different from the regular home and away season. The double chance only counts before the Prelim Final so if the saints find themselves losing that match its over and I have a feeling it will happen to them this season. Reiwoldt is known for choking on the big stage, he hasn't done it as much this season but put him on the MCG in front of 90 thousand + people and we'll see what happens. Sure there is no doubt that they are the best team right now but take them away from the Dome, add some finals pressure and they could fall apart. As long as Geelong don't win i'm happy, they are sooooo overrated!!!
PS: I hope the Western Bulldogs win it but I doubt they will make the GF

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/1/2009 4:53:48 PM | | jeez, both the cats+ the saints managed to get out of jail yesterday, things are really starting to get interesting now+ cant wait to play the hawks next week! folk can still think the saints will fall over in september, i reckon this is the window opening for us! | |

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/1/2009 5:40:58 PM | what's the goss in Vic about KHunt's 3 million deal to play in the new GC team...?
I reckon he'll get smashed first game, from behind.... in a kinda welcome to the sport, mate... ..
everyone will be lining up to smash him.... to tell their mates.... Hey! I dropped the league guy, he looked tougher in state of origin...
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/1/2009 6:40:11 PM | Karmichael Hunt isn't well known in Victoria; so it is almost a curiosity thing about him. Everyone agrees that he is not worth the money based on his playing ability but rather for his promotional ability in the Gold Coast.
The main physical problem for Hunt will be the endurance factor; apparently he is significant below the standard of most AFL footballers.
The Saints keep marching; a narrow win last night. It seems to be a common feeling everywhere that the Saints will choke in September a la Geelong in the Grand Final last year (in fact I think people are saying that because of what happened last year)
I still think Geelong and the Saints are miles ahead of the other teams - Collingwood looks good but how will they go against the two top teams
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/1/2009 8:01:11 PM | it's hard for rugby league fanatics to comprehend that no one down south really gives a rat's a..e about karmichael hunt.....or rugby league for that matter!
his successful signing by the gcfc remains what it is.....a remarkable coup and free continuing publicity guaranteed in the nrl parochial newspapers of qld., and n.s.w. there will be thousands of nrl fans tuning in to the gcfc matches to see how "the traitor" goes. add to this the genuinely interested sports fans and voila.....an instant audience of many thousands who may not have watched the greatest game of all with such a keen interest.
to quote alistair lynch....."put simply, it's a master stroke."

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/1/2009 11:42:28 PM | Jesus Im exhausted.....not easy playing for the GFC at the mo....amazing how 18 men can make me sweat from like 4000kms away...not to mention scream.......trust me everyone in Perth knows I barrack for my beloved Catters (you should have heard me yesterday....you probably did !!) .....two in a row though boys..Im a bit over it !!! !!!....still over the line we got....and thats all that matters........Paul Chapman..you legend ..kicked six ..what a guy......I would go thru childbirth for a nite with you....what a man !!!
Septembers getting closer and its a great run home for the top 4.......better get my ass into gear and organise my $149 Jetstar plane ticket to Melbourne ..cause boys I will be coming home for the Big One !!!
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/3/2009 2:31:53 AM | | keep ur bum in neutral pooks!!!!! dont fork out for a plane ticket just yet, i dont think the pussies will make the grannie! gut feeling tells me saints vs the doggies+ i,ll be sorry to see the cats crash+ burn, i really like the way they play but a little gremlin tells me they wont make it! sorry to be mr no more fun pooks, but time will tell! i still dream of playing collingwood in the big 1, but they will get found out when they get the torch turned on them! be wary of adelaide, they are a sneaky bunch+ could cause some grief in the next few weeks! i,m hoping we bury those pesky hawks in tassie this week cos they could be trouble in september! keeping every part of my body crossed that those mighty saints dont cop any nasty injuries this time of the year, lets face it guys, we are due 4 a change of luck+ no-one would really begrudge us a 2nd flag!!!! | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/3/2009 7:19:32 AM | | Im with you Rob on the Doggies being a sneak team...but you know what..at the end of the day Im not real sure the best two make it to the GF...I reckon its the two teams that has the least injuries..Catters are suffering because of injuries as are other teams....it really comes down to who can hold their own in the prelims and battle on for the flag without losing the major players to a bunk groin !!! | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/3/2009 5:28:37 PM | | ^^Does that mean you concede that Geelong made it in the last two GF's because they were the luckiest team with the smallest injury list?? Part of me does agree with you though, the 2007 Grand Final match was a joke because one of the teams didn't deserve to be there (Port Adelaide), they were dead in the water until Cousins pulled his hammy late in the 3rd so I guess injuries do play a part in some cases after all. I hope the dogs win it, 1 premiership in almost 100 years is pretty depressing. | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/4/2009 4:10:32 AM | Yeah I do concede that to a degree, we were lucky...but we were also talented to get there almost undefeated as well..but hell you could argue that at times umpiring went our way as it does for other teams..many things play a factor in getting into a GF...its not all talent...as you can see by the Catters last year..we crumbled when we should have stood up and fought on that last vital game and the year before bottom line Port were woeful...I reckon the best footy you see is in the prelims...no doubt about it...yet at times Geelong can be bloody awesome to watch !!!
The bottom line after so many rounds that naturally all teams are suffering...injuries and fatigue...we've lost Chapman now for 2 weeks..that will hurt Geelong and we have been misisng Ottens all season...
Most teams have star players yet lose them during the year to injuries..so yes when the run home begins it does come down to a degree to is to which team is still relatively intact.
And yes it would be good to see the Doggies get up - Im a ex Yarraville girl..Doggies territory...I just want to see a bloody decent GF...not a walk over but an exciting game..lets face it the game of the season so far was the St Kilda/Geelong clash...lets hope that again for all the teams in the run home..
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/4/2009 4:59:15 AM | This is when injury management is so crucuial - every team is getting important injuries - as you say Chapman is out for Geeling; St Kilda has hopefully Gardiner (but hasn't McEvoy had so well as the third ruckmen - his time will come after the retirement of King and Gardiner) and Gilbert to come back (and hope Montagna is well).
Can the Saints do the perfect season? How knows how well Hawthorn will play this weekend? Then Essendon, North Mebourne and the tanking Melbourne in teh last round.
Can they go 22-0? | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/5/2009 1:15:06 PM | | hey samurai, good points about the injuries, when the swans won the flag, about 20 players managed to play every game so keeping just about all your 1st pick blokes on the park gives u a red hot chance of being there on that last day in sept. geelong last year picked 4 blokes who were carrying substantial injuries+ it bit them big time, if the saints can manage their big guns+ we dont cop any major problems, i cant see us not being there! the game against the hawks on sat. should be ferocious+ if we can give them a touch up, will end any chance of them playing in sept! a bloody big incentive to give them the father of all hidings! | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/6/2009 1:23:09 AM | | sheesh, now its our turn to rest a heap of players to freshen them up 4 a red hot tilt! must admit i,m from the old school of if it aint broke, dont freakin try to fix it!!!!! i hope the coach knows what he is doing! go u mighty saints!!!! | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/6/2009 3:03:17 AM | For the Saints:
Out: Nick Riewoldt (concussion), Leigh Montagna (elbow), Brendon Goddard (knee), Lenny Hayes (back) Steven Baker (knee)
In: Jack Steven (the 42nd pick in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft), Luke Ball, Zac Dawson, Michael Gardiner and Jarryn Geary
Saints gets back three players who I would have to my top 22 - Ball, Dawson and Gardiner.
The forward line still looks strong as Gardiner would replace Riewoldt - Kosi, Gardiner, Milne and Schneider is still a damn string forward line - and King and McEvoy will share the ruck duties.
The Back line of Jason Blake, Max Hudghton, Raphael Clarke, Zac Dawson, Sam Fisher, and Farren Ray still looks strong - with only Clarke not being in my top 22. Mind you if both Roughhead and Buddy get going, they will be hard to stop.
The Saints midfield looks a lot weaker without Hayes, Goddard and Montagna - this is an opportunity for Ball and Gram to stand up and shine
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/6/2009 3:12:34 AM | and my top 22 for the Saints would be:
B: Jason Blake, Max Hudghton, Steven Baker HB: Zac Dawson, Sam Fisher, Sam Gilbert C: Leigh Montagna,, Brendan Goddard, Farren Ray HF: Jason Gram, Justin Koschitzke, Adam Schneider F: Clint Jones, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne Foll: Steven King, Lenny Hayes , Nick Dal Santo I/C: Michael Gardiner, Luke Ball, Andrew McQualter, James Gwilt
With Apologies to Ben McEvoy (but will be essential in later years)

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/6/2009 11:01:09 PM | | I am a hawthorn supporter but they seem inconsistent to win a premiership. The only team that shows a real desire to win week in week out is st kilda so i think they will win the cup. Geelong doesnt seem to have that hunger anymore and the other top eight teams seem inconsistent as well. | |

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/7/2009 9:26:54 PM | | ^^^^ I know WTF...I have no idea what went wrong last nite...I really dont...all I can say is their tired and injured (Im missing you Paul) ............but bottom line....just not hungry enough....I hope you all all had a bloody good long hard look at yourselves driving down that Geelong Rd last nite........and to Carlton of all teams....good on ya !!! Pookie stomps on her Geelong Beanie...and kicks at her flag !!! and contemplates moving back East for the prelims..thats if the boys really want to play in them !!! | |

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/7/2009 11:33:38 PM | | I have zero interest in Football - but have been influenced to go with the Saints - as I'm a 'Saint' myself - so it all makes sense now - it that what you told be to post Rob - ooops | |

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 8/8/2009 6:49:38 AM | i prefer to think that the pussies rested this week.....because they can. they'll be ok when it matters. the saints have an easy three weeks coming up......then let the games begin!
my friends who live in moorabbin tell me they're holding the mother of all parties on grandfinal night. i remember the one they had in '66.....so does everyone else who lived within a 1 mile radius!
