Posted: 7/8/2009 7:11:10 PM | There are a lot of studies that indicate proportions that are selected as most attractive are consistent across cultures and races -- for example the geometry of the hour glass figure is consistently assessed as desirable -- however "beauty" is more ethnocentric.
Many attributes that are seen as very highly attractive amongst the people of the South American rain forests wouldn't ever make the cover of Vogue and vice-versa. | |

So pretty is what each person deems pretty and not necessarily is that person pretty at all. I see alot of ugly women with handsome men but that is my view...he obviously feels she is pretty. | |

I would hope that once you get to know someone, male or female, WHO they are becomes slightly more important than just their looks.
I've read about a musician who recently dated Jennifer Aniston and he was so excited about the date because she was like his no.1 fantasy woman or something. Anyway he told a magazine about their date and he went on to say how disappointed he was in her when he finally had his chance. So perhaps her looks didn't maintain the interest. Could this be why we see her on cover after cover "seeking that elusive boyfriend". In other words she looks lovely but that's it. There's not alot to her.

First of all, according to that study it was prettiness in general and not specifically gender based so that also means that women are predetermined to prefer pretty faces as well so go get yourself in shape! I like a hot man! Oh my God, blue or green eyes, with nice trimmed eyebrows. Tall and muscular. Brown hair. Sound good to anyone? I either just described Brad Pitt or Andre the Giant. Which one are you going to be particular to? Subjective subjective subjective
Secondly, it's a study. I bet if I do a quick google I could find 5 more similar studies and probably 10 more to contradict it. Does anyone actually listen to or pay attention to studies anymore? Hell, if I were good enough I could probably find half a dozen studies to condone serial killing! | |

Someone said "beauty is skin deep but ugliness goes straight to the bone". Indeed, a personality makes a woman pretty or ugly just as much as her face. I've met women whose structural physical perfection was matched only by their hostility. And women others would consider plain whose soul just illuminates a room! And still others who exhibit both qualities in various proportions. | |

There is actually a phi mask you can put over your own face to determine how HOT STUFF you are. No matter what race you are, if you match the mask, you're most likely a ten.
YES...watching the History Channel finally paid off! Here I thought I'd never use this knowledge.

Generally speaking, studies that get attention in the scientific community are ones that have been verified by repeating the same (or similar) study. It's also important to note: there's a difference between the data in a study - and someone's interpritation of that data.
Also of note: there's loads of studies that show human's thoughts on what's beautiful hasn't changed much over the years. As stated, the magic 3/2/3 ratio, symmetry etc. There's also studies showing predispositions in the "eye of the beholder" based on their genetics. More notes of importantness: correlation and causation are two entirely different things.
Does anyone actually listen to or pay attention to studies anymore?
Yes.
Hell, if I were good enough I could probably find half a dozen studies to condone serial killing!

I know a young man who's mother has a very nice face.
He is an very talented artist and can sketch a womans face and body in such beautiful detail.
Every face resembles the mother in the lips and eyes, even jaw line.
Body type to most extent. ( He has been known to enlarge the breast somewhat).
I find this facinating, because most of the women he dates look nothing like her, but the art does.
