Women like me who are small and smallwaisted once used to be envied . Now it seems everywhere I look there are skinny legged women with no curves . Was it a profound denetic change that snuck up on us, or was it the years of dieting , anorexia and having as role models like , well , any catwalk or photographic model ,that worked a kind of shift in the force ? Could be . Even little kids these days are way skinny , you look next time you go to the doctors , it's true , ... ALL little kids are skinny . I like wearing my assorted collection of tights . They're comfortable and I throw all sorts of different coloured[ and wafty even] tops over them ... AND , the piece de resistance ... THE BUCKLED BOOTS , long or just up from the ankle . Pffftttt to jeans , down with em .

cant say ive really noticed skinnies ,is it the craze now ,cause last time i seen my 18yo son his jeans were so loose dont know what was holding them up ,certainly not his waist as half his boxer shorts were showing ,has it been that long ago

OP;My I say that I belong to the seventies era of classic style dress which has never left my wardrobe!This thread is serious stuff!

We wore hip hugging pants and flared bottoms with tight fitting shirts!
Still love it!Still wear it!Still crave it!

Seeing men wearing those baggy shirts and baggy bedsheet pants just makes me
wishing I was never in the same gender category with them!Yuk!Have I expressed myself strongly enough?Hope so!

The eighties were about Levi 501's but currently for me (personally) the 'Satch'
pants and the body fit shirts of 'Ralph Lauren' is the closest to the 'Mike Treloar'
Image that was classy in the seventies!!!!!!

Having said all this I wear skinny pants with tight bottoms occasionally which
is soooooo cool!Especially Black!With the black tight pullovers!!!!!!


And as for suits The Hardy Amies style is soooooo classy and cool!

Don't care what a woman thinks about my style of dress;The choice rests with
ME!

ps: A Black short waisted 1970's skinny (Sydney designed)leather jacket is a must
to complement the torso!

Extremely important issue Hilly!!!!

P444 has given a view from the "younger/ish" persons point of view... I think that "trendy" guys can do skinnies justice.... providing they have the body... the guys that I have seen wearing them that look ridiculous are the "really" skinny guys... my 16 year old tried some on once and I don't know who laughed the most... him or me .... (he is a 6ft string bean) .... Once again in saying all of this... I still don't like them on guys..there is something wayy too feminine about them that just doesn't cut it with me....

How about this for an idea... next time there's a PoF event in your area make it compulsory for everyone to wear skinny jeans! We'd all look as bad as one another, it'd break the ice, and we'd actually look past the appearance and clothing.

was worth living both then and NOW!

It's struggling to get into the top part that is the crunch . And also all mirrors should be banished from the house . Mirrors are unnatural things and looking at myself in a shop mirror has left me scarred emotionally , so that now I DON'T look . If you can battle your way into them , feel proud and hold your head high .

If you haven't already read it, you might enjoy it...
not looking into a mirror, for extended periods?... can help "see" other parts of self..
I'll never forget.... what I learn't ... from that book..
although.... I still look.... GREAT... in the dark..

re shop mirrors.. didn't you ever see marketing/ and the particular mirrors they used.. in some fashion shops? and the lighting?...

They look like absolute w#nkers I reckon.
Here is a fact though - Skin tight jeans were 'in fashion during the Mid 60's too.
The difference was that the crutch wasn't half way to our knees.
The belt was around our waist (no undies adverts) . The warning at the time was that the tight jeans would keep the tackle too high and lower our sperm count. Don't think today's style has that effect, there seems to be plenty of space (groin and between the ears).
My bet is Bell bottom jeans then Flares hit the scene next.

Man, I'm just soakin' up the oceans of knowledge in this thread . .
So OK . . In the name of research, I went and tried on a pair of Lee brand skinnies (black, if you must know) today and here's what I found.

Firstly the sizes. I picked up a pair that seemed about right and looked at the label . . it said 86cm waist . . WHAT? I held it up to my waist (hips really) as I usually do in order to determine if it would fit and it looked right to me so I figured the sizing must be wrong. I normally take a size 82 waist with the leg length at 84.
When I got them on, they weren't really as 'hugging' as I expected, but they were kinda stretchy and felt a bit weird 'cos the waist, while it fitted OK, was just too elastic for my liking. Anyway, I didn't try for a pair of size 82's. I think I knew what was in store and that would have been too much, I reckon.

I figured . . stuff it . . so just put my Safari Suit back on and left . . .

and the waistcut of the jeans coincide............hate the other type and the kids who wear them look comic..........they are usually skateboarders .

yeh , the ONLY Levis are the US made ones... the ones made elsewhere are pale imitations and 3 times the price... and thinner material..

they use genuine heavy denim and the best cut.... and cheap compared to our chinese made levis ...

$100 -200 for a pair of denim jeans is theft!!!...

last time I was over there I bought 3 pairs on special for us$16 a pair at JC Pennys... button fly 501's.. stand them in the corner..
at the time they were about 100 here.... for locally made ones... ;/

Wow Faux Pa.. I am impressed, even if it was all in the name of research small steps more often than not leads to conversion ... although it sounds like it could be a slow process given the Safari Suit era started around the 1930's

im all about what is confertable and useful... i dont have much of a fashon sence... soo i deside what is good or not, simply by function... skinny pants have little funtion... there uncofertable tight, and you cant get anything or or out of the pockets, i see the same as in high heals.. i like shorter women, and those shoes hurt, i cant see much prupose in them

I tell ya Poss, if I'd tried on some 82's, I reckon small steps would be the only steps.
But since this thread, I've been taking a bit of notice of these skinnies and it doesn't seem to me that a lot of girls are having trouble with them. I should also point out that I don't seem to have seen anyone that would assail the optic nerves with horror, either. I'll maintain the vigil.
And the Safari Suit thing was just me trying to get Peter4444's goat . . unsuccessfully apparently. Safari Suits were ridiculed mercilessly even at the time they were 'in', so that's refreshing at least.


Some things my mum holds on to. I could wear now, as the 80/70's thing is back in fashion.

Hehe . . I watched the old Clint Eastwood movie, Dirty Harry, the other night. The girl in that movie was wearing a bright green leather coat . . and I don't reckon those are coming back any time soon.
