What still amazes me is that MS spent 5 years designing Vista, and it ended up being worse than it's predecessor
That's because MS kept on screwing around with Vista by trying to invent something diff instead of improving upon something that already worked.

The main issue still exists....they need everyone to be a 'Standard' user for everyday tasks & a separate 'Admin' account for things like ...say....administration (users should be given the least amount of privilege necessary and with knowledge should come privilege)
They got the idea with the 'Administrator' Acct. with Vista(comes disabled) but you still have the 1st user who creates an account as part of the 'Admin' Group... I guess they go for the 'enable everything to make customer support easier' mentality
Even experienced Systems/Network Administrators don't surf facebook, youtube, ...the Internet in general with an Admin/Administrator/root Account (the ones who know anything about security anyway)

| Does anyone think that Windows 7 = another Vista upgrade? Posted: 8/10/2009 5:29:51 AM | I think id suggest Ubuntu if you're wanting to get started in the linux community, Insanely User-friendly but If you're a gamer, forget about it. Windows 7 I find to to be much more stable and faster than vista, because upon making Vista they just slapped together what seemed good and put it out on market, whereas windows 7 was based off of what the commentaries received from vista were. In all honesty I thiunk windows 7 will just blow everything out of the water once there's more support for it, regardless, the rtm isnt out yet and ims till having trouble running my SM Bus controller (no drivers available anywhere as there is no support to windows 7 yet) and things like webcam, Game controllers, My razer lycosa and deathadder mouse and keyboard run rotten on it as well. But alas, can't expect miracles with an OS that isn't even technically out yet, right?
As for what people drool over on mac's, Im a little... skeptic. Yes the darwin OS runs like a charm, but again, not if you're a gamer and I find paying 2400$ for a system with pieces in it that are worth 400-600 is an absolute ripoff. it's all for a name. meh..
Stick to windows. lol | |

Says you. I don't have a Mac however do they have the best tech support in the industry. You get major problems on a PC most people end up being a pc because it's cheaper. This doesn't happen with a Mac. No activation crap. If you buy a mac you get FREE training how to use it and they also help you with your project. Macs tend to use quality parts and since the parts are pretty much all the same it tends to be more stable for the OS.
I have heard that PCLINUX os causes heat issues in machines and I have also experienced this. So I recommend staying away. Ubuntu and Fedora is bleeding edge, unless you like to play around I don't suggest it. Vector linux is more probably more suited for beginners. It is based on slackware and very fast.
FreeBSD is probably better if you have the time to set it up.
I am currently using puppylinux (live cd), you can also install on hard drive.
There is already a windows 7 bug it. Chdsk command produces the Blue Screen of Death. http://techreport.com/discussions.x/17364
I wouldn't be running out and buy windows 7. I would wait at at least a year after it is released or after the first service pack is released.

I always give it a year before moving them over. All those XP P4 2.8 machines aren't skookum enough. Waste of time upgrading existing.
Then again, it's all about putting money in our pockets. For the average user (email, docs, surfing) Win98 did everything they needed.
Not for me to kill the money beast. Cheers.

I REALLY hate all this talk about vista and windows 7 and XP being crap. I hate it more when ppl say "I bought a MAC" and it's SOOO much better. u guys have no idea what u are talking about. ppl who buys MAC and claim superior speeds... u do realize that u did the following:
"I paid twice the cost of what I should have really paid for a new modern machine that is much faster than my old machine (probably because you upgraded from a single core to a dual core), an old machine which can't run modern operating system since it's old"
truth is, all dual core system paired with at least 2gb of RAM is fast enough for almost everyone. u can stick any operating system on it and it'll be fast. the bonus of having Windows is compatibility, and switching to and overpriced fruit voids that, unless you want to pay more to get a virtual Windows system. oh wait, I forgot, all MAC users like wasting money.

| Does anyone think that Windows 7 = another Vista upgrade? Posted: 8/13/2009 3:29:59 AM | i forgot to mention, I used all OS mentioned, never had a problem with any of them. I may have crashed a few because of viruses that "I" downloaded and installing "free" software that I shouldn't have.
u install software that loads up when you turn your computer on, which slows your computer down, and u blame windows. stop installing bloated software! forget windows media player. find windows media player classic with homecinim or vlc player. dont use windows burning program. use cdburnerxp. dont install norton, get avgfree. norton will slow your computer to a crawl simply by having it on there. learn to properly maintain a computer before bashing on it.
dont get me started on Japanese cars are better than American! u maintain it properly, it'll last you your entire life. everyone is paying extra for a honda civic and we were suprised about the economy.
dont get me started on the economy either. a lot of you arent even affected!

| Does anyone think that Windows 7 = another Vista upgrade? Posted: 8/18/2009 12:47:04 PM | Hey Spazzin
I agree with you whole heartedly, with one exception:
AVG is garbage.
Don't believe me? Read your posts. You have had virus's from installing "free" software.
Well Sir, you had virus's infect your pc because AVG failed to spot them when you were installing those free programs. It couldn't be clearer.
AVG used to be an excellent program, but if you comb the web and read about the issues that people are now finding with AVG, you will quickly change your mind about the whole program.
I used AVG for years, and I am not here to trash it.
I do, however, suggest that you uninstall it and go with either Avast (free) or Avira, also free. Both of which rate higher in effectiveness ratings than AVG.
Now to address the original topic, I will say I have ran every version of Windows since 3.1 and I absolutely loved working with Windows 7. Even at it's beta, it still runs circles around every other version. It's fast, it's extremely user friendly (more than XP) and it just "feels" good.
I really do wish that Microsoft would do something about the un-necessary bloat that comes with using Windows. It does get rather tiresome having to buy bigger and bigger hard drives just to accommodate Windows and all our goodies.
To anyone considering buying a new pc or especially a laptop, I strongly suggest waiting for Windows 7. You won't be sorry.

| Does anyone think that Windows 7 = another Vista upgrade? Posted: 8/21/2009 12:47:44 AM | Free upgrades to win7 are available now, for new purchases. Been running Beta for awhile now. Very sweet. As far as the antivirus thing, F-Prot has finally gotten their legs back and it's running clean again. Very painful in the last 6 months. Check it out. Uses the least amount of resources. | |
