First.... I am SO sorry you had to deal with that!! Yes!! Report him! You are there for the reason the gym is there... to become healthy and improve yourself. HE is hurting the gym's image and potentially causing them to lose money by making a paying client feel uncomfortable.
Second... I wish I could say I only imagine what that is like. But I have been there. Only, I get comments like that from more women than men. "How can you be okay wearing such tight clothes in a public place? Aren't you self conscious someone may offended by your fat?" ... "You know men are grossed out by fat women in the gym." Etc. Then of course, there are their whispers when I am lifting. Usually when women say things like that to me in the gym, I walk to the squat area... when they see the weight I add AND lift... they usually never bother me again. They continue to whisper... but not really say things directly to me.
... Sounds like this guy actually has a thing for you, but is too stupid to come out of the closet about it.
P.S. Congratulations on the 80 pounds (I know you said 79, but let's make it that nice pretty round 80). And when that moron comes asking you out... make sure to tell him that he will be so much more attractive from across the country!

| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/21/2009 4:13:39 AM | I only had a problem once with someone making a nasty comment, and it was a woman. I told her to shut it. I pay my membership fee just like everyone else, and I have ever right to be there. For circumstances I can't get into, we actually ended up being friends.
I was just under 300lbs when I started working out. I've only managed to lose 40 in close to a year. But, I have never, not once, had a problem with one of the guys talking to me like that. Most of them are very encouraging. Since I do not have the support of my family and friends the friends I've made at the gym are my support system.

| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/21/2009 5:42:06 AM | people never put the free weights back on the racks.... and i end up doing walking lunges and falling flat on my butt because i step on one.... the loud noises. !!! omg i get it!!!! it's heavy so put it down already!!!! when using a machine, it's ok to do a set and then rest for 30-60 seconds in between. it is not ok to sit there for 10 minutes watching the news on the tv in front of you | |

| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/21/2009 6:05:58 AM | Its funny, but I think I've grown pretty thick skin it didn't bother me so much. I have to admit I know I had one of those looks upon my face of what the hell is wrong with you.
Oh another pet peeve is the people who sweat on the equipment and dont clean it eww.
|
| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/21/2009 11:32:37 AM | | Yeah, if I have a pet peeve it's probably the guys who grunt and groan real loud. I always want to tell them, "I didn't make that much noise giving birth! If it's that bad reduce the weight!" | |
|
| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/21/2009 1:30:09 PM | Just a quick note, I think people who make comments like the ones mentioned to someone in a gym are extremely rude. I can't believe people actually say stuff like that to someone else.
If you're in the gym and you're really trying to get in shape, I don't care what you wear or what you do. I'm all for it.

|
| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/26/2009 10:07:27 AM | -People that don't put their weights back properly after finishing with a station -People that disassemble your station while you're gone for 2 minutes when there is another avaliable station. -Not cleaning your sweat when done -Spending time in freeweights talking with friends/cell instead of working out. | |

| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/26/2009 3:25:41 PM | | I have to admit that I got so sweaty on the treadmill today that I was really glad nobody was on the treadmill next to me - because I would have been giving them a shower. When I got off I wiped down both treadmills. | |

He/she knows everything and anything on how to do exercises, and will come up and tell you your doing an exercise wrong. And this is the same people who grunt or moan while lifting baby weights(and im not kidding, maybe 15 pounds on curls or presses).
The bosu ball crowd. Now, I know some people use it for stability training, but I about laughed my ass off when I seen someone doing curls on a bosu. Do you feel it in your core more? Seriously, what a joke society has become with this ball nonsense.

Try curls on it with the ball down / platform up, on one leg and tell me you are not working your core, along with every muscle in your legs right down to your ankles.
It makes a very simple non HR challenging exercise like a curl allot more changeling which is why I do it.
And why not add something that challenges your body a bit more, even if it is only a bit why not, its cumulative so it all adds up, just because it is not burning does not mean you did not work it or benefit from it in some way.
Everyone has different goals and reasons for what and why they do things, so maybe that's the problem why society, intolerance breed by ignorance.

| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/26/2009 8:17:52 PM | I saw someone doing push-ups on one of those balls. It looked downright obscene!
My trainer had me do that all the time. First day he showed me how to do it... I asked him to show me again Oh... it was a good day in the gym that day!
... he told me he'd do it again only if I did jumping jacks for him.
The FUN work out is when your feet are on a yoga ball and your hands on the bosu
Anyway... sorry... digressing.

Sorry to go off topic here... but I wanted to know more...
Are you standing one legged on the bosu for this?

For the 1st few times I would suggest standing near something or someone you can hold onto to so you can get a feel for it. After a while it starts to come second nature.
People say that using free weights is better than machines because your body is not being supported so you are working harder, well the bosu takes that one more notch up.

Okay, so now I don't just have to stare down the men on the free weights... I have to push them off the bosu ball now too :P
Thank you for answering. Deff something I will look into.

My only pet peeve is folks that like to do circuit training with various equipments but won't allow you to work in on any of those equipment until they finish their entire circuit.
I'm with you right there. I can't stand that. Generally, I usually don't have an issue, but sometimes it's a problem. People on the flat bench with a few 50s hanging by, doing their bench, then going up and doing shoulder raises or whatever. I work out at a YMCA, there isn't more than 1 set per weight, rarely anyways, we all are equal members. If you want to circuit train, go when no one is there.

| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/27/2009 7:14:38 AM | BTW, congrats on the girl who lost 80 pounds. That's quite an achievement and you should be proud of yourself. I would kill to lose that kind of weight.
My main problem is when I am working out and can't find a free weight, only to find that it is next to some dude's bench or just thrown on the floor. When you are done with the free weights, I get maybe it's hard to put them exactly where you got them, but maybe, IDK, put them together somewhere. If I go to grab a 45 and have to search the entire gym for the other one, it makes me feel like I am wasting time at the gym.
I don't have a problem with the grunters or the talkers, or the guys who flex in the mirror, hehe. If that's how they do it, that's how they do it, who am I to complain? The grunters are rare, but usually, they are doing some heavy duty stuff, the talkers always move when I ask them to and always say sorry if there are in the way. The flexers, well, who doesn't like to pop a flex once in awhile?
I always wipe down the treadmill, especially since I tend to sweat on it awhile. Like I said before, at my current gym, I have few pet peeves. In the past, I used to work out at a fancy gym, and in the morning, it was annoying for these old dudes walking around in the locker room with their junk hanging out, right next to you talking about news and politics. I'm like "uhhh, I just want to get changed man." It also used to bug me when people would take a cup of coffee on the stairclimber. I don't know why it did, it just did.

| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/27/2009 8:23:21 AM | | Big, bulked up guys who put hundreds of pounds of weights on the machines and then don't remove them, leaving them for small, middle-aged women like me to remove. I guess they use up all their energy lifting and can't be bothered to pick up after themselves. | |
|
| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 7/27/2009 11:53:10 AM | | That does get quite annoying. Even from us big guys who want to use that bench, I know I'm not going to be doing my first set with 275lbs. That just shows a lack of class, besides, part of the workout is removing the weight and re-racking it, got to count for something. | |

| I am curious of other people's workout pet peeves Posted: 8/1/2009 2:38:05 AM | Here goes...
People doing hulk hogan poses in the mirror. Blokes doing their hair in the mirror. People who watch you train. Blokes in string vests. Grunting, it's really not needed. No one gives a shit if you can bench 60kgs. People who do the same exercise next to you trying to compete. People who don't put free weights back. People who go to the gym in groups of 3 or more and just hang about machines. People with BO problems. People who go on about their "street fighting" career then don't understand how to throw a proper punch or hold up a proper gaurd. Metrosexuals. The sausage shows in the changing rooms, you bought clothes, so put them on. People who use weight plates on the floor to raise the ground position of a deadlift. People who walk around with protein shakes. Any sort of maximuscle or similar logo on anything being flaunted. People who can't do their trousers up doing the arse rape hip hop trouser thing. People who try and hump the lat pull down. People who don't bring their membership card then wonder why you don't let them in. Farters. Lack of courtesy flushing in the shitters. Phones. People who get pushy when you are on a machine they want to use, especially when you are the only two people in the gym. People who come in drunk.
I could go on... | |

Dropping the weights really annoy me. My opinion is that their mom put them in a crib when they were young and neglected them.. So now they come to the gym to get extra attention. If you cannot set them down, don't pick them up.
You'd hate olympic lifts then. My pet peeve is people who don't drop weights doing oly style. There is a reason why the weights are rubber... they bounce.
My pet peeve was having someone try to pick me up while lifting. Not cool.
