| Please excuse me Posted: 8/4/2009 3:41:27 PM | Sorry wasillaman, I am new here and don't seem to know how to just post directly to a thread! BUt I just had to speak up on this one. My late hubby was completely white headed and bearded before he passed and I loved it. He was like a giant teddy bear. I jokingly told him that he couldn't shave because I didn't know what was under all that hair. He might be ugly. Of course, it's all personal preference and I've had clean shaven, mustached, bearded and a few two-faced. LOL But what's really the most attracted is how he makes me feel when I'm with him.
I don't know if it works this way on this site, but I'm gonna try to post a photo of a very hot and bearded scottish lad. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't blow his skirt up with my looks, but all he has to do is stand there in his and look fabulous and my skirt just starts to flutter in the breeze!!!

I meant to say what's really the most ATTRACTIVE ABOUT ANY MAN TO ME is how he makes me feel.

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/5/2009 2:10:41 AM |
Okay, this is a two-part question. Now, I have a mustache and I think it makes me look younger (of course, that is a biased viewpoint) But ladies (or guys), do you think a mustache and/or a beard makes a man appear older than his years or does it depend on whether its just a mustache rather than a beard? There was this guy I worked with in the post office many years ago who was 45 (I was 25 at the time) and he had this really great mustache and I thought he looked 35 rather than the 45 he actually was. I transferred out of that post office, but ran into him about 4 or 5 years later - he had shaved off his mustache and I thought he looked 20 years older. Of course, maybe he'd just had a very bad 5 years life experience since I saw him last. Second part - I have seen some ladies on here expressing that they wanted a man who was "clean shaven". I'm a bit confused about that. Does that mean absolutely NO facial hair, including no mustache?
I think facial hair on older men makes them look older--it seems only logical to me, if the facial hair is gray or white, duh...it's going to make you look older. I prefer clean shaven men--Brownlady is right--facial hair makes men look unkempt. And it is a dirt and germ collector.

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/5/2009 9:47:51 AM | | My mother used to tell me that no woman could be attracted to a man with a beard. I found out that she was WRONG about that. When I was younger I used to wear a long full mustache and what is now called a Soul Patch, aspiring to a 19th century look. since I now have job where I need to look like I'm serious, I wear a trmmed "full" beard, shaving my upper cheeks and lower throat. Periodically I succumb to a desire to see my face again and shave it off. I immediately regret it EVERY time and begin growing it out again. | |

Goatees can make a man look younger - but its like a woman wearing a girdle.... it comes out eventually.
Take care of yourself inside and out and that will make you look your best.

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/5/2009 7:43:13 PM | | It's been on for 24 years, had to even think of shaving it off... Most of my life I was always looked too young so at this point, I'm not likely to remove it... I suppose the female equivalent is make-up: Gals in their 40s-50s with 86lbs on their faces or Gals in their 70-80s with God know how much on. But hey, it's not for me to judge. | |

Although I do think it makes all men look older including young men, some look better with it.

I suppose that to some my beard makes me look older. Older than what? I'm sixty. I look it. I have no need or desire (to the dismay of the Advertising market) to look younger. In the immortal words of Popeye "I yam what I yam".
Although, on a side note, I was a little bit flattered when my Wanted Poster described me as "approximately 50".

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/5/2009 9:24:23 PM | Was just going through some old photos taken when I was about forty. My ex wanted to see me clean shaven. A rarity since being able to grow the moustache :) Those pics made me look older than I do now 9 years down the line with one! You wouldn't believe the difference it can make on some guys.
A beard, I think, will make just about any guy look at least a few years older.

I considered shaving it off once and she was adamant that I not. And besides, like tree rings, I can tell the approximate age of a photo by the increase in white around my chin.

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/8/2009 5:38:27 AM | Well, let me start by commenting that the OP is a very young-looking guy, with or without facial hair..... but generally speaking I do think that both a beard and moustache are aging. And I hate to say it, but I also find the moustache-only look a bit outdated. I used to be rather partial to facial hair when I was younger, but as I also aged, so did the beards and moustaches! Then they gradually weren't so appealing anymore.
Shaving off a beard could possibly have the effect of making someone look older if they were very "jowly" or had a double-chin. It's not going to hide wrinkles around the eyes, but it could detract from them I suppose.
Clean-shaven means no beard or moustache. Could mean that long sideburns are OK, as long as they are not mutton chops. I prefer some scruffiness over the clean-shaven look anyday; although I'm not finding beards or moustaches that appealing, I wouldn't discriminate against them. And if you like your beard or moustache, that's all that matters, right?
Be well...... | |

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/8/2009 5:53:57 AM | I wear a beard in the coldest of the winter months. I run outside every day - rain, shine, blizzard, etc - it really does go some to keeping warmer. I can put a hat on my bald head, but not much I can do about my face. So I grow the beard when/if it turns really cold.
The grey - initially looks nice, but eventually it becomes to prevalent. Then one tends to look old.
ONCE, a woman in my office encouraged me to cover my grey in my beard with some over the counter product that her husband used. I tried it. I really liked the look, however I started to itch that evening. Then worse and worse. By the end of the next day I had to shave off my beard. My whole face where my beard was had broken out. I was allergic to whatever was in the dye. It took the better part of three weeks for my face to clear up.
Be careful with that dye stuff guys.
I wish women were as accepting of grey on men as men are of grey on women.

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/8/2009 8:45:34 AM | In my opinion, facial hair that is tidy looks great on any man, regardless of age.
I don't think a man should grow or not grow with the intention of trying to look older or younger.
Facial hair is really a statement of who they are, like the colour of shirts that they wear, the shoes that they buy, whether they wear hats or not, the type of jeans that they wear. It is a whole package.

So true. If you need to hide behind a beard or mustashe to look younger, you are not taking care of what really counts. Good skin care, good diet, good healthy habits are what make people look young and vibrant....using facial hair to look younger is just like a woman using a girdle---once it's off, reality is there. Same, I suppose, with too much make up. Too much make up, like facial hair on men, makes women look older, not younger.

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/10/2009 7:18:53 PM | for the sake of debate, does anyone REALLY think "men" grow facial hair for the purpose of deceiving women/people as to their real age??? for the sake of debate, if women were capable of growing facial hair (not menopausal sprouts), could they be guilty of doing so for the purpose of deceit as well? do people "hide" behind hair to avoid personal health issues? the idea of it being a hide-out for germs is indeed scary, as I would only hope that washing ones face is part of the bathing routine for every person. yikes.
I appreciate the enlightenment as I just never thought of facial hair as a method to seek the fountain of youth.
all this debate over men's faces and their choice to sport whiskers or not and why and when and where is amusing for me.

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/10/2009 8:52:38 PM | There is a very large school of thought that people with beards, mustaches, etc. have something to hide . . . the truth in their eyes, a weak chin or thin lips... their personality. Facial hair provides a place for this refuge.
Once upon a time I really liked facial hair; my EH could grow a mustache, beard, goatee at will, have it for a little while, grow tired of the look, then shave it off. But lately I am not digging it... I think there are too many poorly coiffed 'staches and scruffy beards that need work! Maybe a regular visit to the barber or stylist.
Have you see the Seinfeld episode where Jerry walks into the prospect of a mena*e a3, and begins to freak out saying he will have to grow a mustache and become an "Orgy Guy." It is funny because there is that particular connotation.
It does depend on the guy and the growth, and its maintenance. Yes, clean-shaven means clean-shaven. I do think (on a dark haired guy) a day's growth or a little scruff is sexy.

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/11/2009 2:07:15 AM | for the sake of debate For the sake of debate only, it is of course it is only a personal preference to prefer how men look with or without facial hair. Who knows why all of them grow it? I've agreed with one person on here who said many men have had it since the seventies and just keep it, like some women have kept their straight long hair, it's a style choice...it may have looked good when we were in our 20's, but on many, it doesn't look that great now. A man who says here he's had his beard/mustache since forever is to me someone who proabably is a person of habit and doesn't like change or taking chances, which is the type of person who would not be my type at all. I do think that some men are trying to mask (if not hide) thin upper or lower lips, turkey necks, double or weak chins, etc. In fact, on the other facial hair thread, some admitted doing so. And I do think that hair traps dirt and germs. Watch a man with a mustache drink a beer or eat a meal--how many times does he wipe that mustache with his hand or a napkin? That wiping doesn't get rid of the germs. But does he go and wash is face after a beer or a meal? Unlikely. To me, they are untidy looking and dirty collecting. I wash my hair once a day, and washing hair is much more involved and rinsing off your face, if it is free of facial hair. How often does a man wash his face? Once a day? But the hair is collecting dust, dirt, and germs all day long. A man kisses you, even intimately, and rubs that germ laden stuff all over you? No thanks.
Despite the fact I do not say on my profile I prefer clean shaven men, almost all the men who contact me are clean shaven. I believe it is because they are men who live a very active lifestyle...I am guessing that if you are into sports-- hours and hours of hiking or biking or long distance running--facial hair is a problem, because of the sweating...it would be hot and uncomfortable and the sweat probably makes it itchy. Just a guess. I'll have to ask someone. I know a very athletic guy who has a goatee...but it's pretty limited in the amount of hair. Anyway, it's a preferenc; there are plenty of women who like facial hair on men. It's also an opinion--those of us who think it makes a man look older...it's just an opinion.
