| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/11/2009 2:07:15 AM | for the sake of debate For the sake of debate only, it is of course it is only a personal preference to prefer how men look with or without facial hair. Who knows why all of them grow it? I've agreed with one person on here who said many men have had it since the seventies and just keep it, like some women have kept their straight long hair, it's a style choice...it may have looked good when we were in our 20's, but on many, it doesn't look that great now. A man who says here he's had his beard/mustache since forever is to me someone who proabably is a person of habit and doesn't like change or taking chances, which is the type of person who would not be my type at all. I do think that some men are trying to mask (if not hide) thin upper or lower lips, turkey necks, double or weak chins, etc. In fact, on the other facial hair thread, some admitted doing so. And I do think that hair traps dirt and germs. Watch a man with a mustache drink a beer or eat a meal--how many times does he wipe that mustache with his hand or a napkin? That wiping doesn't get rid of the germs. But does he go and wash is face after a beer or a meal? Unlikely. To me, they are untidy looking and dirty collecting. I wash my hair once a day, and washing hair is much more involved and rinsing off your face, if it is free of facial hair. How often does a man wash his face? Once a day? But the hair is collecting dust, dirt, and germs all day long. A man kisses you, even intimately, and rubs that germ laden stuff all over you? No thanks.
Despite the fact I do not say on my profile I prefer clean shaven men, almost all the men who contact me are clean shaven. I believe it is because they are men who live a very active lifestyle...I am guessing that if you are into sports-- hours and hours of hiking or biking or long distance running--facial hair is a problem, because of the sweating...it would be hot and uncomfortable and the sweat probably makes it itchy. Just a guess. I'll have to ask someone. I know a very athletic guy who has a goatee...but it's pretty limited in the amount of hair. Anyway, it's a preferenc; there are plenty of women who like facial hair on men. It's also an opinion--those of us who think it makes a man look older...it's just an opinion.

I know that look is somewhat over done these days, But seriously its been my look since the early 90s, so parting from it is NOT an easy choice.
Still would like to hear the womens opinion on the matter.

Posted: 8/11/2009 6:56:30 PM | ^^^hello neighbor, Harry, speaking only for myself...I am damn near pro-choice in all matters of life. if ANY style of hair/no hair/fake hair on any part of your body works for you and makes you feel comfortable in your own skin, then I'm all for it! no one can dictate (other than the armed forces) how any man's "hair" is sported. it's a personal choice. period.
except for mullets.
my opinion to your question of your "look"? I like it. and I don't need to know the "why" of any man's choice to go with or without. it just doesn't matter to me.

I will even be so bold as to say I won't date a man without it! He just looks naked. It is my own personal preference just as him wearing it is. But it must be well kept. Not a soup strainer. Well kept facial hair usually means a well kept man. And that makes all the difference in the world. I think your moustache looks great. I might trim it a little shorter so I can find both your lips!

| Does facial hair on men over 45 make them look older or younger? Posted: 8/13/2009 11:01:29 AM | | Back when I was in my thirties, I had a baby face and would grow a beard or mustache to make me look older. (Teen age girls with crushes on their teachers can cause some real problems.) After 45 the beard began to have a few gray hairs in it and eventually the students began to call me Santa, so I shave. | |

I may have already answered this but it is worth repeating... men my age who wear a Tom Selleck mustache need to thin it out, shave it off or pair it with a gotee... sorry for being so demanding...imho, nothing dates a man my age more than a small animal growing under his nose.. I dare all men over 40 to shave that beast off, you will soon have more women hitting on you, younger too... just do it!, ty.... many blessings
