| Help a youngin learn from your mistakes Posted: 7/19/2009 9:25:46 PM | Hmmm, I got most of my dating advice from my victorian raised grandma and Indiana Jones. Mom and Dad contributed, and I have used some w/ good sucess, others I have thrown in the dumpster. But I am not telling which bits. I am crazy like that.
From Grandma(raised by Victorian era grandparents):
Ladies don't ride astride.
Don't wear make-up until you are married. Let them know what they are really getting.
Let your man buy you jewelry-the value of the jewelry shows how much he values you.(AKA the higher the resale...)
Indiana Jones:
Bad dates can kill.
Never date someone that can drink you under the table.
If he looks like a creepy b*stard-he probably is.
Heels and a dress are not your best options when in a pit of vipers.
A pistol and a bullwhip may be the most useful items you carry to any meet.
Beware the golden idol-its balls maybe more than you can handle.
Mom and Dad's dating advice was more obscure but still useful in dating situations.
Mom:
Class can't be determined by dress/accessories, it's determined by carriage/manners.
No matter what a man pays for or gives you-no is always an option.
Silver tongues hide black souls.
You have to look yourself in the mirror in the morning-so make sure you like what you see.
Dad(after wife #2 left):
Never date 2 people w/ the same or same sounding name-too confusing. It's better if they all have names that start w/ a different letter.
Set up a schedule for your multiple dates and keep the story straight.
After a certain age, if you lack big warning signs(drinking, abuse, drug use) and have a decent situation(own your own home, car, pay your bills) the opposite sex will overlook many flaws.
Disclaimer: Use of this advice will differ from person to person. As with all advice, you take what you need/works for you. My father tried to throw in some John Wayne style advice- but I am still trying to figure out pilgrams and swaggers. All I gathered from John Wayne was to not date a man riding anything named Twinkle Toes(John Wayne's horse) and beware the quick draw man. | |
