I like natural looks, really saddens me to see a very pretty woman that has gone and installed a metallic barrier to her good looks, not to mention can they even get through a metal detector? Same goes for large bold tattoos, you used to only see this stuff in circus side shows.
At best I don't mind reasonable ear piercings and getting used to tiny nose studs. Small tasteful tattoos in unexposed areas I guess.

| what do you feel is the most UNATTRACTIVE piercing commonly done today? Posted: 8/24/2009 9:38:28 AM | | The only piercings that I don't really have a problem with are earings, they don't really do anything for me either way; however, everything else I just can't help but be repulsed by, especially on someone's face or privates. Belly button rings aren't too bad but then I have seen those completely stretch out on pregnant women. It's not attractive either. Why anyone would randomly mutilate their skin with piece of metal is beyond me, it's really not attractive. I find it so dissapointing when I see a beautiful womans face/body be completely ruined by tattoos and piecings, what a shame; but, at the same time, I guess it's also really not my issue so I don't really try not to judge them over it. It's their body to do what they want with but I don't have to be attracted to it. | |

I've been seeing way too many cracked and chipped teeth from these lately. It doesn't happen right away, but it does happen frequently (and usually to more than one tooth in the same person); and, once cracked, at some point they are going to break. Now that's ugly. And it can be hard to get fixed as it's expensive and not covered by insurance.
According to the American Academy of Periodontology, 47% of those who wear a tongue piercing (regardless of its size) have chipped teeth after four years of having it. My own observation would have indicated rather more, but that's quite unacceptable enough!

My G/F had her belly button done before I met her... well, it eventually caught in clothing and the hole got bigger and bigger... now, it won't close up... and it's too big to hold jewellery anymore... it's been 2 years and she still has the hole... Her daughter had facial piercings, they were more or less ok... not my thing, but in a way it looked pretty good on her... well, she soon found out they were a deterrent to a decent job so she took them out.... only to find they left white scars... she has them on her eyebrows, lips and nose... very distracting... especially when she tans, and the scars are always a different shade... now she's upset because she has permanent marks on her otherwise pretty face....

Her daughter's facial scars probably can't be revised much, if at all, though. However, they will often fade to the point of near-disappearance over time. She should make sure to put sunblock on them when in the sun, if she doesn't already, unless it's been at least a couple of years since removing the piercings. Sun in the first couple of years can encourage hypertrophy.
I've been researching this stuff lately as I have a scar on my lip from an accidental injury. It doesn't show up much in photos but, though decreasing, it's still a bit noticeable in person. Plastic surgeons pretty much all say, wait a year and see how small it gets on its own first, so I think the same probably goes for scars from piercing.
Nice cautionary tale, m_church .

As I see them more and more, they've become less offensive and off-putting. I still don't like to see a face (or body) full of piercings, but eccentric piercings, that don't draw my attention too much, don't bother me. I've never dated anyone who had them in places that made sex or kissing a challenge. Ugly, poorly chosen tattoos bother me more.

| what do you feel is the most UNATTRACTIVE piercing commonly done today? Posted: 8/24/2009 2:23:48 PM | I was with a guy once who said he went through a period where he was unsure of his sexuality and as a result he split the tip of his penis in half and put a piercing through it.
It was rather stimulating to feel him enter me but it looked really disgusting, almost like a smashed fishes head or something. I told him I couldn't bear to look at it.

I don't like the dimple piercing, seems to be a waste of a dimple. I think women who try to keep in corset piercings for longer than a few days and they get all nasty and swollen as the skin rejects them are horrible.

| what do you feel is the most UNATTRACTIVE piercing commonly done today? Posted: 8/24/2009 6:18:20 PM | | My friend had a genital piercing. She went to the doctor because she thought she had an STD. She was right. The doctor told her she had torn the skin around the piercing without knowing it and it probably made it easier for the std to infect her. She could never get the piercing to heal up after and had it removed. | |

There is NO accounting for taste. A person (dis)likes what they (dis)like. Personally, mostly, I find tatoos and piercings distracting and can be a turn-off. (note key words, mostly and can- indicators of a willingness to have an open mind). Who are you to judge that?
Just because you choose to be liberal with your inking and/or piercing doesn't mean it has to appeal to me or anybody else.
C'est le vie. | |
