Mystie is doing everything she should be.

Jim bob

If you knew half as much as you think you do, you wouldnt have asked ::
**Why are you getting hung up on benching and squating big if you're trying to lose weight?**

Explain to me if you would, why this isnt a good idea for fat loss?

You mentioned looking At her pics and not seeing any muscle definition....
Again you have no idea what you speak of. Mystie is doing exactly what she should be
for what she is trying to accomplish.

She is looking to not only lose fat, but gain new lean muscle mass. You could take a
lesson from her punkin.

with the progress mystie has made, she is undoubtably holding new lean mass underneath her fat stores. If she keeps this up, those fat stores will decrease
and muscle mass will increase. In the end she will be left with a smoking lean body.

I wouldnt be surprised if she could out lift/out work you in a gym as she stands now.

No, not really. They just watch what they eat and go to these things called "gyms".

Bullshit! I have been to London many times. My best friend lives there. They are a bunch of chain smokers, very unhealthy. With a mixture of tobacco and exhaust fumes in their lungs. You are just dreaming. If they go to the gym, it's only to pick up men.

Oh come on guys! What can you expect from a guy who willingly calls himself Jim Bob?

I'll have been going to the gym for 1 year next month, and I am just now starting to see any definition. It takes time.

Why are you getting hung up on benching and squating big if you're trying to lose weight?

Thing is though, in a nutshell, that is what losing weight is about. Everything else, bar medical conditions, is tertiary.

because the legs are approximately 405+ of your total muscle mass and building them is the single most metabolic boosting thing you can do. The second choice is back training.

Swuatting heavy and big keeps muscle, muscle raises BMR, higher BMR more calories from fat burned at rest = leaner body with less effort.

Losing weight is vastly different to losing Bodyfat which in turn leads to a more positive body composition. If you had a pair of identical twins and one weighed 140lbs lean and one was 140 lbs fat, one would have lose BF and one would not. It also helps to fight possible loose skin as you have something there to prop it up when the fat goes away.

This is all pretty academic.

See? But all the rest of these fools are saying, "eat less! eat less!" but eating less seems to have slowed my progress.

Physically active - I normally run/walk 4-6 miles every other day, with the elliptical on the off days. I do spinning class, and as I said in another thread - I'm learning to ride a real bicycle.

They are totally wrong, do not eat less eat more. Give your body what it needs and achieve your deficit through exercise. Body re-composition is easily achieved through resistance training and good hard cardio. The body will not do what you want it to if you starve it and do not give it enough to recover and do its thing. SO many hormones are influenced by overall nutrition and calorie intake its unreal.

There was a good book i read by Tom venuto called Burn the Fat Feed The muscle. The principle is sound and it does work.

I know this thread has delivered some pretty fantastic sweeping statements but yours comes out on top!

As for my comments regarding going as big as possible on the bench and squat... Compare an endurance athlete to a power lifter. Who is leaner?

An endurance athlete is leaner of course. Most endurance athletes have that famous
emaciated look, shrunken muslce fibers and overtrained/unhealthy body look.
Naturally they look *leaner*

To think people actually go out of their way for that look. Ugh

A comparison of endurance athlete to power lifter.....two completely different
ends of the spectrum here. Let me guess, this came from the mystie chat you have been rattling on about?

Mystie is a semi power lifter. She is not the norm with it either. Again, if you knew
a bit about the person you speak of, you would know this.

Power lifters rarely eat clean - mystie does.
Power lifters rarely go for fat loss -- Mystie is.
Power lifters rarely go for overall health and fitness - Mystie is going for both among other things.

Obviously a power lifter in most cases is going to be a whole lot bigger than
an endurance athlete.

If you were on top of mysties posts and knew of her recent fat loss, goals, and how she eats, you would be better informed. Clearly you are not.

Fix that.

Endurance runners are built for the sport. I think Sprinters are a good example of carrying some decent tissue and being super lean. Its all about muscle fibre types. That and most powerlifters i happen to know are very muscular and quite lean too.

Now I feel like an idiot. All this time I figured, well, I have big strong legs from playing football, no point in training them. Dang. Now I better get back to training them. If only I can get over my fear of how paralyzed I will feel the next day.

I also feel pretty stupid for putting three posts together in a row. Sorry bout that, total newb mistake. Or maybe it's me getting to this thread late and having to read through a few pages, some of which was interesting, some of which was just people who have nothing better to do with their time than make fun of something that is very difficult to take care of.

I've lost 30lbs recently. Which, is noticeable, people say I look better, my pant size went down one, I feel better, I mean, life is a bit peachier. It is VERY difficult to lose any kind of weight. Look on the tv, there are SO many people who claim they have that one great "elixir" to weight loss. So called fitness experts are the same, talk to ten personal trainers you will get ten different answers. Lots of people say "eat five short meals a day" and I get the reasoning behind it, makes sense and all. Personally, I just can't really do it. It's a mental thing, for me. It's how I see things. Growing up the youngest of six kids, you had to be pretty aggressive if you wanted to eat. Of course, as my older siblings moved out, I still had this mentality, even though there were less of us, lol. What I am basically saying (and I am not blaming my parents for me being overweight, lol), is that a lot of it is mental, and how your environment shapes you mentally, has an effect on you as you grow up.

People say, well, just don't eat as much. Ok, but then you pretty much end up starving and lose muscle mass, and male or female, who likes some waifish stick figure? (sarcasm, since I know lots of guys like those kind of girls). But, it's difficult, and it's hard to explain the problem I have so I will try and be as clear as much as possible, it's difficult when your mind is used to a certain portion size and you are trying to tell your mind that the portion size you grew up with is too much, and you should actually cut it down. I've gotten a lot better with this whenever I get meats, I have to size it to the size of my fist, which seems like a relatively healthy portion. That seems to work for me, but I am not saying it will work for everyone. I also do cardio 5 times a week for 45 minutes, alternating between sprinting and walking, but again, that is what seems to work for me (I also play rugby in and among the personal fitness, lots of running there, lots!)

Amazing that this idea of what is a BBW has turned into a fitness discussion, but it's cool, there's some wicked knowledgeable people in here, and I've figured out some new ideas to incorporate into my workout. Overall, it's a mental thing. There are very few people in the world who are 100% fit. Very rare actually. Even bodybuilders let themselves go a little bit in their offseason because it's somewhat detrimental I think to be that lean year round. If you identify as being Big & Beautiful, that's cool, if not, well, that's cool too. Whether it is fair or not, I don't know. There are lots of people who identify themselves as athletic but they don't seem very athletic and a host of people who identify as average (But really, if you want to stick out, why would you say you are "average?"). And this post is so long I doubt anyone will read it, ha!

I walk all the time, even before getting into the gym, I had big powerful legs. Very low fat in them. However, since working out... I now even wear a smaller SHOE!! My legs is the one area on my body that holds almost no fat. I measure myself in inches as well as weight... and the inches of my thighs has gotten bigger... but the fat has gone down. Legs of steel I tell you!! I actually have gone so far as to not put a picture of my legs on POF for fear of someone saying it is a fake picture.

If only I can get over my fear of how paralyzed I will feel the next day.

Try not to think of it as paralysis.... think of it as a really awesome burn. It just means you worked them very hard and they are thanking you.

You should post one! That would be a compliment, I'd think, for someone to be like "oh that's morphed." Smaller shoe sizes, amazing, finding the proper shoe size is difficult for me. Maybe you're on to something.

I definitely get what you are saying. Whenever I have in the past felt like "I really should do my legs" I always end up doing more than I should. Maybe that's it. Like, I can't get on the squat with hardly any weight on, it's like, hey wait a minute, I could do like 10 plates total in high school, why the heck not? But you make a good point, guys don't have to sit as much, lol. I will do them soon, just after this tournament I am in next weekend, I am going to need my legs as fresh as possible.

HAHA...

Ten plates may be a little too much just starting back up :P Gotta remember you've been out of the game a long time. Start out small and slow. Don't push yourself into something that will hurt you.

Well I have read through alot of the comments on this thread and I want to say, I understand how you feel. For many years I have been called any thing from bird legs, frog legs to no butt and I need to get some weight on me, your so skinny, you look so thin do you feel ok.? I am tired of people having an opinion of what my physical body looks like. It can be hurtful. I work out and work very hard to try and get weight on my legs and find it hard to do so. Although I am happy with what I look like I still have to deal with the comments I get. And another thing I don't like to hear, and that is for a person that has extra weight say to me "I wish I was as thin as you". It makes me feel as though they don't have any hope for themselves, and wishing won't help you change the way you might be. Just be your own person. It's about who you are on the inside. Yes and being over weight can be bad for our health. As for myself I workout and stay at a certain weight and I still have high blood pressure and high cholestrol. I inherited that from my dad who has since passed away at the age of 42 from a heart attack. One more thing I have a variety of friends small, large, smart, not the sharpest tool, ugle, pretty, money, poor and I care about who they are and what they have brought into my life. Chin up, we all have something in common.

I'm size 18-20; about 70 lbs overweight (down from 90 lbs overweight last year). I don't know if I look my weight because I know what my weight is. I have been told by the personal trainer I worked with 3 years ago that I did not, in fact, look the weight I was and my doctor had to recalibrate her scale to make sure it was correct. Either way, I know I'm a big girl and it doesn't bother me in the least that many guys do not like big girls. What bothers me is the hate and the jokes at our expense. It's not PC to make fun of race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation but pant size is always fair game; even more so if the target is female. If you don't like big girls, that's ok: but please, don't go out of your way to make us feel bad - you're just proving you're immature. Best to stay quite and keep us in doubt.

That's very true. As if overweight people are the last bastion of people that it's ok to make fun of. Irregardless of whether it is a "personal" choice or not, as many like to claim, it is still quite difficult. It's very easy for someone who has never been overweight to say things like "go to the gym" or "don't eat so much." But for those who have been overweight most of their lives, it's very difficult. Doesn't make them stupid. It's so wrapped up in their mentality, and with magazines and popular media presenting an image that is supposed to be beautiful (healthy is another matter entirely), some people feel that gives them carte blanche to say whatever is on their minds, even if they are hurtful to others.

Think, whenever you lose weight, what is the first thing people say "You look great, did you lose some weight?" As if you looked horrible before, lol. I realize that people think they are being nice and maybe I am overanalyzing that statement, but if you think about it, that's not that great of a thing to say. It would be like saying to a black person "Wow, I can't believe how well you speak and how articulate you are." Most people know that saying the latter, while on the face it is a compliment, is really a backhanded way of being racist, as if to assume black people are not smart. I'm not saying people shouldn't give compliments, but to think before they say things, and also, just because you might not like the way a person looks doesn't mean you have to tell them that to their face.

I'm a size 12/14. Sure, i could stand to lose 20 lbs, couldn't we all? Do men really want a boney size 2 with fake boobs who is grumpy all the time because she is hungry/starving herself & paranoid about how her butt looks?
