ya this touched a raw nerve...... I have played sports with some "stout" ladies (and men)for years and they are in very good condition from cardio to strength and even with all the activity they stay the same size. Some people are that healthy size because their system regulates them that way and it would probably make them ill to try and slim down. I have seen the ladies attempt to diet and date but they always return to the same size. Thats the way it is. But looking at children it is a worry with our fast food based, video game playing, net surfing, low activity kids. I cant see it being good in the long run for anyone when study,s show young teenagers having arteries like an out of shape 50 year old. This topic has been fascinating to read! Lots of amazing thoughts and emotions being kicked back and forth!!!!!! Great free entertainment!

How many of those fat kids have skinny parents? It beats me how a fat mum and dad can just let their kids go along the same path as themselves, knowing the struggle they will have as they grow... being bullied at school perhaps and falling in to the usual yo yo dieting that eventually wrecks the bodies natural system... I just want to give them a flipping shake (the parents that is) and wake them up. I was watching a documentary series last night called embarrassing teenage bodies and there was a young lad on there who was only 13 years old and 15 stone! After consultation about his 'man boobs' he was told straight that he needed to lose weight... well later in the programme he returned to the consultant and he had lost 2 stone and was doing fitness and sports which he was really enjoying... way to go.... pity his mum didn't join in with him... yes she looked overweight!

I saw a fat family today, the parents were huge, they had 2 kids, 1 in a push chair who was fat and 1 who was like 7 who was suprisingly skinny.
I saw the skinny lad with a large bag of fast food and couldnt help but judge the parents. Bad parenting IMO

not many kids actually physically play anymore. If they want to play baseball they turn on the video game as they suck back soda and eat chips. We had to grab a ball and do it. calories in calories out. sitting on your ass all day has to mess something up since most kids like to eat too. Maybe they should only see the Wii system so they have to jump around a bit?

^ yep, if I had kids I would do what my parents did: NEVER have cable TV or video games, and strictly limit the number of hours per day they could watch TV or use the Internet.

To be brutally honest, most parents today are either too busy or self-absorbed and simply don't give a damn, so they use all these electronic devices as babysitters.

An old high school teacher of mine used to say that the people who are least fit to have kids are the ones who have kids the most often. Sad but true.

People work more too, though. The days of mom staying at home and keeping the kids out of the house are long gone. I had video games back when I was a kid, and even I spent hours inside playing it, sure it isn't as advanced as today, but it was the cool thing at the time. Most families are two income, so, parents aren't always there.

Also, seems some parents shouldn't be parents. Easier to bring the kid to Mc Donalds than say, make sure they are eating healthy.

To answer the original question, I personally classify anyone who wears plus sizes as "big" or bbw. Plus sizes in the US start at 16 and go up. Of course, you have your lucky women (hello mom) who have the right height and body composition that, they look like they are actually 2 dress sizes smaller.

I would like to add that I keep hearing these obesity statistics and I have to say, when I go out in public I see more thin/average/athletic people than I do obese. Sure, I see more obese than I did when I was a kid but I still see a lot of fit people. And no, my perception of average or athletic is not skewed. Just because I still think a woman or man can be attractive at larger sizes doesn't mean I think a size 22 is average. I notice the muscles, the lean waists, the "soccer" thighs (the thigh muscles all bulky and split - yum!), the deltoids and biceps and bubble butts. I also see the muffin tops and man boobs and saggy boobs and saggy arms and big bellies. When I walk into a public place there are still more thin people than fat. And.... I don't think Kansas City is the outdoor recreation mecca of the US, so it's not like I'm surrounded by health nuts here. So I have to wonder where the obese 66% of the population live. When I was at KU about 3 or 4 years ago, I saw about 5 other fat people a day. Really. I *might* have another fat person in a classroom of 30. In the larger classes with 200-400, there were probably 10. Yes, I looked. I looked because I like to people watch during boring lectures and almost always sat in the back of the class.

I look on this website, for guys in the KC area, and there are a ton of thin, athletic and average sized guys. A ton. Way more than the fat ones. And I've looked for the fat ones too. Hearing all of these statistics all of the time, I've been looking around and trying to see if I notice more fat people. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Anyway, just expressing my puzzlement.

^^^66% of the population is not obese...that number is in the 25-30% range...also, the obesity rate in men is lower (it should naturally) so probably explains what you see there...

Obesity is a BMI of >30 . From the CDC, "in 2008 only Colorado had a prevalence of obesity less than 20%. Thirty-two states had a prevalence equal to or greater than 25%; six of these states (Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia ) had a prevalence of obesity equal to or greater than 30%."

I know I haven't been on in a while, but I have to say my BMI was 61 now 46..woohoo and lost 90lbs as of today. I want to eventually not be in the statistic. Its just time and effort that gets us there.

After reading this
the question that always strikes me
in the 'fat talk'
is

why do you care?
why is it your business?
and if you don't want to look at it, close your eyes and walk in front of a bus!

Putting down fat people only makes them fatter.

If there were NO fat people in the world
what the hell would people btch about then!
It would surely be a boring place!

I know I'm fat
because
I used to eat my feelings
I have emotional&mental defects
I'm selfish (I will not lose a lot of weight until I can afford a boob job. I have perfect breasts and they will leave me when the rest of my weight does)
and
my thyroid is all mucked up. (I found out I have cancer in my thyroid last week.. and I've had it for a while now.)
I haven't eaten solid foods for the past two months. Go me. My hospital bracelets fell off my hands the second week of not eating.

Yet
I still find people that love me and treat me well
and guys that want to be in serious relationship with me (the guy I'm with now who I met off here is thin and amazing).

I wouldn't take back being fat from my childhood.
It made me miserable and depressed at times.. but I also grew a tough shell and became a better person because of it.

If I were skinny, I would be Hitler Jr... the most evil hateful terrible btchy girl on the face of the earth.. and sadly, more people would 'like' me.

Ahem.
End rant and good luck to those trying to get help for their problems.

My favorite quote is probably
I can lose weight
You can't lose ugly.

"why do you care?
why is it your business?"

Because the health insurance business has made a lobbying effort on it along with the war on smokers...a way to jack up premiums and drop coverage...the rest of the population goes along with it...

The real truth is that people that have chronic health problems die sooner and cost society LESS IN the long run...

I personally am close to normal weight now but was treated for a pituitary problem that causes fast weight gain....doctors are trained to go right to weight as THE REASON YOU ARE SICK, which is so stupid...

End of rant

Are you sure? While my boobs got smaller when I lost weight, they didn't go away, and I still thought they were fantastic. Ideal weight they were a C, 50lbs excess, they were a DD. Not every woman loses all her TnA when she loses weight.

yeah, if I go down to B's, I'm putting weight back on. (As clearly I'd still be in a healthy range with a C.)

Allot of people think that going to the gym is the key to weight loss.

They also think that they can make up for a poor diet at the gym.

Go to the gym to get healthy.

Eat right to maintain a healthy weight.

I lost 20 lbs from a surgery and my boobs went down 3 cup sizes.
So I ate until I gained the weight back and the boobs.

I have lost 40 pounds... and not one stinking cup size!! I have had to buy smaller bands on the bras... but not cups. Pretty much, I am losing fat everywhere but my boobs.

Though I am rather enjoying the newly found ability to turn down men who once told me I wasn't "attractive" enough for them but are now trying hard to get my interest...

.... I really don't think being nasty to someone for being nasty to you really solves anything.

That's like someone holding a Coke in one hand and a cigarette in another telling me to lose weight for my health. It makes them a hypocrite.... and not worth my attention. I pretty much feel the same about an overweight person telling someone else to walk in front of a bus.

It's one thing to remind a man that he was once a jerk to me and I cannot date someone who can treat people that way. It's another to tell them they need to step in front of a bus.

I have lost 90lbs and have only lost the size of the chest not the boob size. Losing weight I agree is a combo of eating right and exercising.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090806/hl_time/08599191485700 This is very true that its a combo of what you put in and what you expend out.

I have lost 40lbs over the last year and I’m generating more interest then I did when I first came on this site. I suppose I have to lose about another 20lbs to really generate some real interest. There is not apparently a Big and Handsome interest LOL. I am more about personality then body types , but that is extremely hard to gauge until you meet. Hard to check chemistry if you’re judging by pictures (Yeah we are all guilty of that, it’s only the degree that we do it that differs)

To me this whole thing is unfair. I lift three/four times a week and compete nationally but am considered a big girl. I hike and I stay active. I am seldom sitting down and prefer to be moving...all the time. I work far too hard to be big but I am.

I love being strong though. I love when I get a new personal record. I love having boobs and butt.

I am active and hike.... I don't hike because I am trying to impress someone....I just like it. i also lift for an hour and half/two hours, three or four times a week. Sooo, I have a unique dilemna unless I meet the man at the gym or he's a fellow lifter.

Thankfully, I generally just don't care. I date alot and have fun and enjoy activity. If he starts getting to be an ass, I ask him how much he can squat and generally, it is below what I do.... or I imagine snatching him up over my head.

I am over 35, very athletic, very strong but muscular too. I love my size (between 12 and 16 depending on cut and stage of training, 36 D upper, 31 inch waist) but it is hard to find someone who appreciates me for my hard work. I train far too hard to be my size to apologize for being my size. I can up the cardio but then my prs go down a little. It's a huge balancing act. i also have calluses on my hands which turn off some men too. You can't win sometimes so just be yourself and know what you want and don't ever settle for second best.

bench press 150 (I know it's not a big number... sorry) and squat 400.

Hi Mystie,

If you are trying to lose weight, you need to up the cardio and stop with the heavy lifts. I lift so understand that i will never get tiny doing it, i just have too much muscle. I take comfort in knowing that my bones are strong and that as I get older, my body will hold up better than those who just do cardio. Cardio queens look thinner now but in a few years, that will change as their metabolisms slow and they lose muscle mass.

I take from your pr on squats that you don't do full squats? perhaps you can work on going lighter and deeper so that you have more of a core workout and it will also protect your knees for the long haul.

No, not really. They just watch what they eat and go to these things called "gyms".

Know why I had to quit going to the local 'gym'? It wasn't equipped enough for my needs. My team has their own gym with trainers but thought I would try the local gym to supplement my training. Know what I found??? Disappointment. I suppose it is great if you want to hook up or compare ways of losing bone density to drop a size.

Don't be a dimplick. and don't be a butt to people. Know what is hard??? Being big and hiking or walking or going out to a club and having fun. Know what is really, really hard??? Keeping your self-respect and loving yourself when the whole world tells you that you should be lazy and have poor self-esteem.

women who squat big = the best asses and legs.
Period.

Also I don't promote obesity at all, that being said I recognize when someone is beautiful despite their size.
People need to stop caring about their shortfalls and start setting themselves up for improvement because I KNOW that once someone who is obese starts to see improvements and feel them it's infectious. Our western society is based around pitying ourselves and it's pathetic. People will use any excuse they can to make up for their shortfalls.

PS Women need to learn to love what they got ( The big boob vs small boob things is BS guys are just happy boobs exist)

So, so true. This will only get worse though in our current political climate. Children are taught from a young age that they are victims because of something - race, socioeconomic, weight, gender, sexuality. There is no longer any accountability for why we do things because we know that we can blame someone else. Can't afford a mortgage --- evil bankers. Didnt pass a test - the professor is racist. Overweight - McDonalds makes the food taste too good. It doesn't end.

Nobody is perfect. *wow, just looked out my window and it's snowing here already! we had no summer and now it is snowing... so much for global warming.* Sooo, nobody is perfect. I know that as I get older, my boobs will sag, my hair will go grey and eventually, I will get that old lady smell. But I'm ok with these things because I make no excuses for the toll of time. It just is.

Same with my body. I know why I am bigger than most women... I lift. I know why men are disappointed when they envision someone a size 4 but they get a size 12. If I had a dollar everytime someone told me how beautiful my face was... but how my ass is just alittle bigger... well, you get the point.

Just last week I dated a guy and we are still sort of dating and he told me... 'you are perfect in everyway, perfect hair, beautiful face, smart - the only thing that isn't is your ass is too big'. Yup. It is but baby, it is strong.

At the end of the day... you just have to be you. Beauty is a state of being as much as it is a state of feeling. Feel beautiful and you will project beauty.
