| For all you downtrodden chappies Posted: 11/7/2005 10:34:40 PM | Recently a 'Husband Super Store' opened where women could go to choose a husband from among many men. It was laid out in five floors, with the men increasing in positive attributes as you ascended. The only rule was, once you opened the door to any floor, you HAD to choose a man from that floor; if you went up a floor, you couldn't go back down except to leave the place, never to return. A couple of girlfriends went to the shopping centre to find some husbands... First floor: The door had a sign saying, "These men have jobs and love kids." The women read the sign and said, "Well, that's better than not having a job or not loving kids, but I wonder what's further up?" So up they went. Second floor: The sign read, "These men have high paying jobs, love kids, and are extremely good looking." "Hmmm," said the ladies, "But, I wonder what's further up?" Third floor: This sign read, "These men have high paying jobs, are extremely good looking, love kids and help with the housework." "Wow," said the women, "Very tempting." But there was another floor, so further up they went. Fourth floor: This door had a sign saying "These men have high paying jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking, help with the housework and have a strong romantic streak." "Oh, mercy me," they cried, "Just think what must be awaiting us further on!" So up to the fifth floor they went. Fifth floor: The sign on that door said, "This floor is empty and exists only to prove that women are impossible to please. The exit is to your left, we hope you fall down the stairs." | |

I've heard a variation on that before, Carib, thanks.

Here's a related poem I wrote in December 1981:
LILY
I bought my wife a lovely stone The jeweller said was the finest cut. And though I opened the gift for her Those quiescent eyes stayed tightly shut. "A present, my dear", I whispered in puzzlement. "Yours to keep in joy and languor". And taking my hand, she looked at me then: "The time to impress me has ended for sure".

| Seasons Posted: 11/8/2005 9:56:20 AM | * I wrote this one two years ago...I casually met a guy through a friend and then 4 days later the guy's brother was killed in a gruesome car accident, that he witnessed... a few months later, we met again and time went from there, however we are no longer together*
SEASONS CHANGED
I remember the night I first met you a chance encounter that left an impression on no one else but me. As interest peaked - I shook it off The realization of our different worlds rang loudly through my thoughts.
Suddenly, bad news spread quickly - demon ridden. A lost introduction, not so long ago brought unexpected pangs of sadness to my heart, as unannounced tears cried silently out for you.
Then without warning - fate I met you again. This time slowly, timidly... you came back into my life, still unaware. Seasons changed. A cold spring turned into a hot summer - of beers and lawnchairs, then summer to fall and the nights of lingering stays. But now it engulfs me - this realization.. A boy I met over six months ago - jagged around the edges Is the same man who holds me close and feels so smooth against my heart. I bask in this perfect moment, hearing the radio - the lyrics reverberating through my soul (as if the song were meant for us alone) I kiss you gently and wonder - will i ever be able to chase your demons away while forever hoping somehow, you too are smiling.

Winds of change
Do you fight against the winds of change, Head down...stubbornly buffeted to and fro.. Or turn your back..and spread your arms.. And shout.."come on...let's go! Embracing..boldly facing..what ever lies ahead.. Eyes wide open...chin held high.. Embracing the newness of whatever is.. As you catch the winds...and fly!

Pain - anger - mercy forgiven to dream To consider the impossible yet walk in righteous steps
Blessed are the humble blind are those who cannot see Where vision was not with eyes while only heart could outward look
Why was it this had to be when to like one meant little Because the number must be two since then one could like another
This difference of a friend or a fondness acquainted to desire To dream - to forgive - saying sorry if life ruled out ways mistaken to understand

| What is it...? Posted: 11/9/2005 7:18:23 PM | What is it, that amazes your senses? The beauty, a work of art dispenses? Watching a sun, sinking into the water? Trembling at a movie, full of gore and slaughter? Reading or listening, to wonderful lyrics? Laughing at something, quite satiric?
What is it, that ignites your desire? Snuggling with someone, by a fire? Being seranaded, with a song? Kissing and touching, all night long? Dirty dancing, in a club? Sharing a warm, bubbly tub?
What is it, that touches your soul? A hungry child, with an empty bowl? Endangered animals, being killed? A human tragedy, where blood is spilled? An environment, choking on pullution? A tale of love, brought to resolution?
What is it, that fills your heart? Knowing another, believes you're smart? Feeling you're loved, for who you are? Being worshipped, from afar? Sensing they're attracted to you, every minute, every day? The security knowing, they would never betray?
What is it, that occupies your mind? Imagining inventions, to solve problems you find? An unending search, for the truth? Solving mysteries, like the world's greatest sleuth? Philosophizing, the meaning of it all? Trying to remember last night, using lousy recall?
Peace | |

She said - I am strong and strong willed in mind Yet she was also stubborn gentle - sweet and kind
I am independent but I don't like being alone I live with my children as kingdom to my throne
I am here for friendship I have a great ear soft shoulders and a woman's understanding
My friend in soul my friend in need My friend I adore and of happiness feed
"And it came to pass, when he was come near . . . , Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon: Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee." Genesis 12: 11, 13 KJV

| The sun isnt even up yet...why am I?LOL..coffee induced write time hehe Posted: 11/10/2005 4:09:43 AM | spontaneous coffee induced morning write time kids:)
What if my inspiration is alseep in bed Slumbering deep inside this poets head What if I pick up a pen to write And my wordlessness Gives me a blank white stare From a blank white page Like an actorless pindrop quiet stage The war on wordlessness is waged between my want to write And my longing need These thoughts inside of me Must be freed The dreams that need to breathe Through verse and poetry These days when I have writers block Are somehow sobering to me Yet I cant wait to have a day When my words flow free again Writers block has nothing to do With an empty inkless pen This wordlessness inside my head Will never be a friend

| a special day Posted: 11/10/2005 10:01:18 AM | Kat - May 13 2005 was a special day in my life and it was on this day - it marked a two month anniversary of meeting a wonderful friend on line While of that - the above works - My Friend - is more her own words than mine in this habit I picked up of including her own words from messages we exchanged
This works here was also composed on the same day - but has a story of its own The kind of stories I call fireproof memories - because once written down in verses and stanza they are there to read in my own mind from between the lines
However this particular write has its origins in Mexico, USA and New Zealand. The title was from her - in being clearly "our [two month] anniversary poem" and each month since I have continued to compose an anniversary works in her honor So in theory a few days time will be our 8 month anniversary of meeting on line
The words "Where ever there was love. There was confidence and trust in all" came for a friend of mine in Mexico, as to his contribution to my writing. However all is not always smooth in these days of kinship - and distance over time is not always a great help. Given two people who must live independent lives. Yet have a desire to meet for real - that may never come into practicality. When no matter how much you adore someone - there can be growing pains in any relationship.
3986 “Our Anniversary Poem” 13 May 2005
Where ever there was love There was confidence and trust in all To keep your word and never be out of turn
Those what could be secrets no other parity in respect would ever in chance learn For a word was a promise and a promise was a word
It was not what she said or told him in her own way It was that he never was going to repeat or say
Because to him - she was as precious to in heart hold Where any news was good and best was friend’s together
"for Lori"
"And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon." Deuteronomy 33: 14 JV
"She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her." Proverbs 3: 15 KJV

A time when people get together Even if its stormy weather The turkey and the Pumpkin pie Are the ones that catch my eye Eating this and eating that All this food to make me fat Cornucopias overflowing with the harvest And being thankful to be alive Feeling full and sleeping on the way home in the back seat After my tummy and the turkey finally meet Thats what Thanksgiving means to me
