Several months back I put in my profile a line that saying if you read my entire profile without falling asleep (or just checking out pics, hometown, and occupation) you won an expense paid trip.... I was surprised how many were upset I put that in my profile....

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/26/2009 8:30:36 PM | awesome responses. This is a great thread. Thanks guys and gals.
I think we can safely say the first thing people look at is the person's picture?
Location is sort of a given most of the time, but then I know a lot of women get responses from men all over (even marriage proposals! lol..)
It's funny... your pic is the #1 thing most people look at, yet I see so many profiles where a person just shows a fuzzy pic of their face and other ones in which they are doing activities and you can't seem them very well at all.
Keep them coming! | |

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/26/2009 9:38:24 PM | 1. picture 2. catchy profile name/headline 3. marital status 4. what they are looking for (ie. Hang out, Talk/Email) 5. Education
I definitely check out the profile picture first. Although looks are not a deal-breaker. In the absence of a photo, I'll read the profile name...a catchy profile name or headline will always merit a profile perusal!
....if you have a well-crafted profile, chances are I'll add you to my favorites list.

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/26/2009 9:39:30 PM | Yes, it is strange that, considering how important the main photo is, people continue to use pictures that are out of focus, unflattering. or have a former girlfriend/boyfriend cropped out. KInd of like wearing a Hawaiian shirt and flip flops to a job interview.
I love a great picture of a good looking man! Extra points if there is more than one photo.

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/26/2009 9:41:53 PM | ....oooh! Forgot about "last 5 Forum Posts"...someone can have a TERRIFIC profile and stats...but their forum posts can totally contradict how they portray themselves.
I *definitely* check for forum posts!

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/26/2009 9:45:45 PM | Picture
Body Type
Smoker or not
Education/ Occupation
Children/Ages
Interests
Like I have always stated........It will be looks that will get my attention, but brain power that will keep me coming back for more.......
Just my opinion........

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/27/2009 5:57:39 AM | In most cases, I check out the photos and glance quickly at the status and 'scan' the profile for red flags . I don't take message the "I like to party" and "Think u can keep up" kind of girls as they're too often shallow or party animals.
So, in order,
1. Picture(s) 2. Location 3. Status 4. Age 5. Interests 6. Profile

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/27/2009 8:10:08 AM | | i look for a fully functioning brain. hello??? (echo, echo)... also "does not want children" and "must do drugs." and hey, how about an original thought or two. shocking! gotta have a sense of humor, because i take that stuff real serious, lol. i don't care if you're Brad Pitt with a Porsche but i'd rather stick needles in my eyes than spend any time across the table from an insufferable bore. i also don't care if you're in Timbuktu because well, the pickins are pretty slim in Indiana. i don't even need a profile picture as long as there's a relatively high RPM and some evidence of integrity behind the profile. plus know how to do something (not someone)... besides your job, that is. in other words, have your own interests and pursue them.... play an instrument, take great photographs, train a horse, build a barn, fly an airplane, etc. | |

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/27/2009 8:14:27 AM | | First the picture, then whether or not they have kids, then their religious ideas, then their interests. I only read the write up if all of those are as they should be for me. Honestly. | |

I KNOW most of you don't actually read everything we write and our interests (I don't!) so be honest. Actually, I DO read everything on a profile. I don't believe there is a *first* thing I look at. It is moreso the whole package.
However, my one disclaimer is if a man is incapable or disinterested in putting an effort into the written part of his profile, I take a big pass.

Then a deft reading of the profile. That's where it all congels. Is there intelligence and thought put into this part? If so, I'm more interested. If not...less.

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/28/2009 12:29:08 PM | 1. Location 2. Looking For...? 3. Marital Status 4. Age 5. Picture (if there is one) 6. Other miscellaneous details I honestly dont remember ever looking at the last 5 forum posts unless it was someone whose profile I had pulled up because of something they HAD posted in the fora. | |

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/28/2009 1:01:50 PM | Picture first, then age, smoker (no thank you, do not want to kiss ashtrays), if they do drugs (no thank you), and children (which is kinda a 50/50, depends on the rest of the profil). Also where they live, long distance dating is a pain. And then I read the profil. If they haven't written more then 2-4 lines, well, then I'm not interested. People should write a bit to expect some replies. | |

| First things you look at in a profile HONESTLY! Posted: 7/28/2009 2:55:57 PM | 1. Cleavage. Let's face it women love to flaunt it in their photos. So I notice that first. 2. Abs. If she is hiding behind a dog and no abs, next. If she is hiding behind a desk and no abs, delete. 3. Hair Styles. If her hairstyle is from the 80's her photos are 30 years old, so next. If her hairstyle is too house wiffie, she is too conservative for me, if her hair is to blond bimbo, Next, well slow down cowboy, I have gone out with those before. 4. Cliches. If her profile is short and full of the usual cliches about making them laugh and showing them a good time. Next. 5. Negative. If she post the usual cliches about no players, no guys with nose hair, two balls and one d ick, I simply would write her off. 6. Sarcasm. If she is sarcastic, dismissive of the whole internet thing, dating and all this nonsense, I love that shit and I will contact right away.
Okay, this WAS my type of criteria. Right now the only thing I contact are Oncology sites. Hehehe. (Well, I don't but my gf does.)
