I was going to get lots more so that people would think I have a mental illness, just for the fun of it. But found out they think that anyway, so no need.

What about those people who have multiple DOGS or flocks of CHILDREN? They generally get a pass. What's up with the CAT PHOBIA!?! (Cue a witch's cackle here!)

| Women with multiple cats - sign of mental illness? Posted: 8/22/2010 3:41:47 AM | I've noticed women with pets are mentally unstable pretty much always. At least the ones that showcase their instability by talking to them like they were children and over-reacting to every little thing they do, positive or negative. She wants something that depends on her to live and won't leave her and she can always rationalize their actions into any human emotion she needs and get satisfaction from that. If a woman has a pet and understands that it is a PET, then fine, that's called being sane...

I guess I'm mentally unstable. Ok, I don't overreact to everything they do, they're animals, they do what they do. (although of course I will "scold" them if they are doing something *really* wrong... gotta train them not to do some things - like, the couch is *not* a scratching post! ).
I do somewhat 'overreact' with worry when, like the other year, my cat sliced his foot wide open on something (blood everywhere, all abscessed - it was ugly and I did 'baby' him a few days cleaning it and trying to let it heal).
And I do 'talk' to them when they're in screaming for something, I'll be "alright, alright, what do you want now? food? outside? ... geez, calm down." (And then check their food or let them out). But I don't pretend they understand a friggen word I say.

| Women with multiple cats - sign of mental illness? Posted: 8/22/2010 3:04:05 PM | | It's more the ones who adopt cats and treat them like substitute children that are odd. You can usually see them; they talk to their cats in baby talk, carry pictures of them around in their wallets (and show them off as if they were children), dress them up in cutsy clothes, well you get the idea. But you see the same behavior with other things as well; women who sleep with their dogs, empty nesters who adopt another six kids, it's all unhealthy. But, to each their own. For every woman who has six cats, there's a guy who has six non running cars in his front yard. In short, no matter who you are, you're a little nuts. Just find someone who's willing to put up with your nuttiness in return for you're putting up with theirs. Now, pardon me, while I go up and sit on my roof and yodel. | |

You mean like that?
Note that I'd *never* dress a cat up normally, but it was winter and I was taking him for chemo treatments for cancer, and (as you could see in the 2nd one w/ the sweater) he'd lost a lot of hair, especially around his neck. He actually loved the sweater, didn't want me to take it off (of course it kept him nice and warm with all the missing hair). Never "dressed" a cat before or since, its kinda silly - but it wasn't for 'cutesy', in his case I felt kinda justified in helping him stay warm.

| Women with multiple cats - sign of mental illness? Posted: 8/27/2010 12:52:50 PM | My ex wife sadly has turned into the crazy cat person. But in her situation it is for the best at she has BPD and will never be in a sane and functional relationship. My ex gf had a dog that she spent more time cuddling. talking to, and spending time with than me at times... I took that as a red flag.
Pets are fine, but what is of concern for me in when the pets become more important than people and personal relationship... then I RUN!!!

That is your mental illness, don't try to diagnosis every female.

| Women with multiple cats - sign of mental illness? Posted: 8/31/2010 6:40:58 AM | No ... Juniper, one cat doesn't count. The thread is about owning mulitple felines where such ownership causes a disconnect with reality. Some people substitute human contact with animal ones which often result in the inability to maintain healthy human relationships (friends or otherwise). That could be a sign of something. | |

| Women with multiple cats - sign of mental illness? Posted: 8/31/2010 8:43:12 AM | I doubt a particular species of animal has anything to do with mental illness, but acquiring a mini zoo does demonstrate social imbalance. It's that unconditional love thing that lures them in. People that aren't willing to put forth the effort required to maintain human relationships, often turn to animals where food in a dish is all that is required to keep a loyal friend. Other reasons are many people just can't stand being alone and want dogs to protect them and something to nurture. That unconditional love starts a cycle of validation to fill even more social voids like self worth. The more animals they aquire to depend on them, the more important and loved they feel. This is the stage where they proclaim to like animals more than people and getting a little wacky with animal rights and collecting strays. I understand that, because I like tools better than people LOL. At some point before going to that extreme, normal people start avoiding them because of the stench, pet hair and poorly trained animals jumping all over them. Once that happens...it's a done deal, and they become a bonafied nut case. I've watched a few go through this gradual cycle and it's sad to see. Thank goodness I've got highly dependent neighbors to fill my voids...at least they feed themselves and go home when they are done using me and my shop....and so far, they haven't pissed on the carpet | |

| Women with multiple cats - sign of mental illness? Posted: 8/31/2010 2:09:15 PM | | I don't date cat women. What about women with multiple dogs that own a dog boarding business and have up to 20 dogs at her house at the same time? Does that count? There are dog women out there too that make cat women seem clean. | |

| Women with multiple cats - sign of mental illness? Posted: 8/31/2010 6:59:51 PM | Thanks for this thread. Just changed my profile to save all of us time. "If you have indoor animals or pets, we are not compatable."
I read somewhere that if you die in a cabin with your cat, it will eat you rather than starve but if you die with a dog, the dog will just lay beside you and die.

| Women with multiple cats - sign of mental illness? Posted: 9/1/2010 9:14:03 AM | | ^^^^I,m with you on that one. Historically, I've avoided the zoo keepers. I hate to say it, but most women are down right nasty with their attachment to animals. I don't think I've seen one yet, that wouldn't allow their pets to lick them all over the face and right in the mouth. I'm sure as hell not standing in that line....I get sick to the stomach just watching it. | |
