| Who's melting? Posted: 8/1/2009 10:53:27 PM | I'm from Chicago, so hot, humid weather in the summer is typical. And one year we had over 500 people die when we had a two week heat wave. At least here, it does not get as humid, because you don't have that gulf air moisture. As soon as the sun goes down here, the air cools quickly. It could be 3 in the morning in Chicago and still be 85 degrees if the temp that day was around 100.The humidity there was so thick, that you come in from the outside and your clothes would feel damp. And the mosquitoes! Unbelievably biting. This hot weather here wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I didn't experience any of the extreme Chicago-like conditions here, so it is nicer, even when it got as hot as it did.( high humidity makes a big difference, making the air feel hotter than it is.) My cooling down trick was to keep several bottles of cold water in the fridge, and place it by the area where the carotid artery is, and then on the back of the neck. Cools your body quickly. I am sure those complaining about the heat, also complained about the excessive snow we had last winter. | |

| Who's melting? Posted: 8/2/2009 12:00:14 AM | | I'd rather deal with the heat than being trapped in the house because of snow because that made me go almost all Jack Nicholson in The Shining on myself. | |

| Who's melting? Posted: 8/2/2009 7:03:26 PM | | I am.... and I even bought an air conditioner....But it only really cools one room....Whaaaaaaa! | |

| Who's melting? Posted: 8/2/2009 8:18:15 PM | | I looooooove it. I was only uncomfy a couple of times and only for a short time. I'm from California--Used to DRY hoooooooot heat (think 105+) and moved here from the south (South Carolina and Florida) and the humidity there was almost unbearable in the summertime...this was a cake-walk....we're actually pretty lucky here! :) | |

....we're actually pretty lucky here! :) So very true...I keep thinking about moving to Georgia and keep reminding myself: Heat = Humidity Puts these last few days in perspective as it is not an ongoing thing! I did survive and would rather have the heat for a few days than the Ice and Snow of last Christmas! I couldn't get out and had to cancel travel plans

I think it must be true...if you don't like the weather in the NW, just wait five minutes? Granted our little heat wave was longer than 5 minutes but in the big picture...just never know around here!

Ok, it's your fault that the rain is on the way this weekend since you washed your car.
It did feel cold compared to last week. I went to walk today, and turned around and put some sweats on,

| Who's melting? Posted: 8/15/2009 1:21:44 AM | Being from the midwest where we are always used to extreme weather conditions, there's something I find completely ironic here in the Northwest. It's too cold (well by standards here below 40 is too cold) so we all complain about it. It's raining too long, we all complain about it. It's too hot outside, we all complain about it. Where is the happy medium? I've yet to find it :/
Weather is weather, make the most of it. If it's sweltering, jump in a pool. If it's cold, warm up under a blanket by a fire. If it's raining, just go dance in it!

| Who's melting? Posted: 8/15/2009 10:41:05 AM | yeah i agree 60-75 is perfect.......like Santa Barbara weather. The coast of California wins the weather award for me.
My family all live just north of Miami in Hollywood for 36 years and its a hot box most of the year, you are already sweating before you even get the keys in the ignition, by the time the a/c really gets going you need another shower and you just took one 5 minutes before. They can keep that place. You go from a/c house to a/c car then to a/c mall and a/c restaurants and you need to take a sweater to go out to eat or you will freeze, then its worse when you walk back outside, with everywhere so cool innside you just dont ever get used to the heat...........but funny i remember summers from college playing paddle ball at garfield street beach in 90 degree heat and 95% humidity like it was nothing, man were we in great shape then, lol.

| Who's melting? Posted: 8/15/2009 11:04:01 PM | Whoa, people who live in Hollywood must be a lot tougher than me (then again, who isn't? )
I became acclimated to this weather so fast after leaving SoCal in the late sixties
You're right ~ California coast weather does sound perfect
