Dumbing down to so called Icons to Canadians.....................so sad. Go ahead explain that to the world...................ew.
I feel shame with how so many see themselves, and try to sell it of foreigners................there choice however.
I always thought one quality us Canadians have is the ability to laugh at ourselves and the world, while the rest of the world is busy killing each other.
I could be wrong however.
Speaking about Canadian Icons, How about Don Cherry. You either love him or hate him. (I think most people hate him) There is no middle ground. However he is one of the most recognized great Canadian personalities, even more so that Stompin Tom.

| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 9:20:24 AM | ^^^ Don Cherry? Isn't he the guy with that strange looking English Bull Terrier? I wonder if he likes timbits. | |
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 9:22:05 AM | I don't think Don has a particular preference for Timbits but I can bet you that his doggy does! I thought Don promoted some other coffee brand here in Canada to be quite honest with you...the name escapes me though. | |
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 9:55:23 AM | Maybe someone can go to live in Cuba and raise the IQ in Canada and Cuba.
That's a constructive idea....coming from an impartial international observer.
Male arrogance, reflected in above quote, is alive and well. And, very revealing to any woman who might have considered meeting either of them for a Timmies double/double and timbit.

I don't think Don has a particular preference for Timbits but I can bet you that his doggy does! Now that we established, that the said bull terrier likes timbits, I wonder, how would he behave around a person who doesn't carry timbits and doesn't like hockey?

Speaking of a double double and a timbit ..Isn't Pamala Anderson a Canadian ?? Yup - from Vancouver, although I wouldn't call Pamela Anderson a timbit - more like a nimwit or a dimwit!
I don't know about Richard Simmons but I vote that you Americans can have him.
Michael J, Fox, Keifer Sutherland, Jim Carey, the late John Candy, Howie Mandel are a few more Canadians who have made their way to the big screen.
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 10:50:38 AM | And what about our beloved Gilda Radner Miss Tink? Bless her soul. Was she not Canadian? That gal was a comedic hoot!
Have to agree with you that we Cannucks would have no problem letting the Americans, or Cubans for that matter, be known for "Richard Simmons".
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 11:17:06 AM | Tinkerbell I am hurtin I am laughing so hard
Yup - from Vancouver, although I wouldn't call Pamela Anderson a timbit - more like a nimwit or a dimwit! We will take Richard Simmons aka Sargent Preston And in return you can have Tommy Lee so that you can have the whole enchalada . or Double Double .nimwit - dimwit. The Cubans get nothing but the XXX video!!!! And no we wont take them back once they are traded.

Ms. Moonie, yanno, when I was typing out the names of the Canadian actors, I almost put in Gilda Radner but then stopped because I wasn't certain if she was a Canadian. I saw her at Second City in Toronto on my 21st birthday and she was fabulous as was Andrea Martin. Thanks for reminding me.
Ahhh, Dave, it's two-fer days for our neighbours to the south. You get to keep both Richard Simmons and Tommy Lee. Think nothing of it. It's our pleasure!
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 11:41:07 AM | ^^^I second that motion! Here here! So let it be written, so let it be done!!! *sigh* Canadians should take this day as a formal stat holiday. We have been lifted from such a burden!!! | |

Any chance of adding Don Cherry in with the deal,
We would even throw in his dog "Blue"
Now thats a Double Double
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 2:31:45 PM | Michael J. Fox, Wayne Gretzky, Howie Mandell, Celine Dion, KD Lang, Anne Murray, Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman....the list is growing, lol! Oops, how could I, a diehard Jeopardy fan, forget Alex Trebek!!
To dave, my apologies for taking your comments personally.
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 2:37:49 PM | Gilda Radner was from Detroit.
Andrea Martin is also American, but she was married to a Canadian and was Martin Short's sister-in-law.
Richard Simmons is from New Orleans. i saw him on Ellen's show once and they were comparing their childhoods in that city.
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 2:39:57 PM | Too often I have seen Canadians drunkenly doing there I am Canadian act in the lobby of an international hotel with foreigns looking at them thinking............I have seen this too many times before.
This thread is supposed to be about humour. Problem is many people actually think being Canadian is all about them acting like Red Green etc., done while drunk with non Canadians watching................some how I don't think the non Canadians will think it is funny.

Thanks, Ms. Bovine, for the info. I wasn't sure about Gilda Radner. I knew that Andrea Martin was American but I was remarking that I saw her and Gilda Radner in the same production at Second City in Toronto in the early 1970's.
Thanks for mentioning Martin Short. I had forgotten about him.
As for Richard Simmons not being Canadian, well...........................let's just leave that one alone!
On Edit: My new motto is: Don't feed the troll.

Oh come on now,
Just picture it.
A group of Canadians dressed like red green with toques on their heads and a bottle of beer in hand, in the Hotel Meurice lobby in Paris doing the Bob and Doug McKenzie call: coo-ooo coo coo coo-ooo coo coo
That would be hilarious.
Are Canadians the only people in the world who appreciate great humor? I think the rest of the world needs to lighten up.

| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 3:21:34 PM | I can't get a particular couple out of my head. This married couple tried to get people to believe they were hard drinking cowboys. They would show up in the upscale restaurant of the international hotel, with their cowboy hats. She would ride him across the restaurant to their table...........very classy. Every night she would ride him across the lobby to the bar..................
Everyone was so sick of their obnoxious drunk ear splitting I am Canadian routine..........they probably got their coffee at Horton's too. Wonder if she rides him though the drive in. The Horton staff must be just as sick of them as the rest of the world.

| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 4:05:35 PM | Peter Jennings ......is a Canadian I think . strollinbella

| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 5:35:09 PM | Hey? Was Woodstock known as a "canadian" thing? Gawd, showing my high intelect here! Can somebody please bring me a backbacon on a bun? Seems I am hungry! Wash it down with a nice cool Blue...don't actually DO Canadian beer. That stuff makes me upchuck! | |
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 5:42:55 PM | ^^^ Cool Blue and Don Cherry's Blue, on the same page, and combined with some Canadian exports - sounds titilating. Say, was it Woodstock or Guelph? Sometimes, I mix up the two places, haven't been in that region for a while now. Some would think otherwise, but lately, Guelph seems to be more entertaining. | |

| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 5:47:24 PM | | I just love Russell Peters. Rumour has it that he's now Canada's No. 1 comedian. I get a kick out of Shaun Majumber too. Loved him on This Hour Has 22 Minutes. And don't forget Mary Walsh. I used to just howl at her interviews with politicians. I remember Stephen Harper actually running one time to get away from her. Ron James is another one I enjoy. His take on people in different areas of Canada is absolutely hilarious and right on the money. | |

Hey? Was Woodstock known as a "canadian" thing? Gawd, showing my high intelect here! Nope. Woodstock was in upstate New York at some old dude's farm. Sorry, Jr. Alzheimers is setting in and I can't remember his name. Actually, right about now is the 40th anniversary of that very famous folk fest or should I say "toke fest"! The Canadian equivalent of Woodstock was Mosport and it was held in the general area of Oshawa. Again, the name of the exact location escapes me. Anybody want to jump in with this info?
Then let's remember Yorkville also known as "the Village". That was the Canadian equivalent of Haight/Ashbury. I dun did have some good times down there from what this l'il ole hippie can remember.
Let's also add in Gordon Lightfoot, Ian and Sylvia and Joni Mitchell .
WOW! Talk about a trip down memory lane, eh?
|
| Tim Hortons / POF Alliance Posted: 8/13/2009 5:52:45 PM | Woodstock actually happened in Bethel, New York! OMG! Who knew? OK so we can't own that one fellow Cannucks! Hmm.....I know! How bout ice fishin? All suited up in our warmest winter garb including our woolies...campin out in a lil wood leantoo on the ice. Beer kept right in the water of our fishin hole! Oh wait? Don't forget moose huntin and deer huntin! Yeahaw! I remember when I used to live way up north in Timmins, they would hunt moose. When they caught one, they would behead the dayumed thing, strap the head to their trucks an drive round town. Poor moose head right up front, tongue hangin out. Too gross for words!!! | |
