now the two biggest guys I know... 6 ft+ and a bit over weight.. bears of men... always have been... huge....
one is married to my cousin and he was her older brothers best mate,.... and they've been together since their teens....... cosy.... she is a 5 ft tiny whisp of a girl who hasn't changed much size wise since those days...
he's the big friendly jovial giant these days....
my other big guy mate is a bloke I've known for years too, we met riding bikes ...
now he dwarfs most common people... another affable giant... though quite a capable one... a good peacemaker ...size helps diplomacy with the most unco-operative of drunken bikies around a campfire.....
his long time loyal missus is another 5 footer.. if that!.. and almost as wide.... though certainly not a square, that girl... quite the business woman it's turned out.... and no shrinking violet ....
though.. to add.. I've just started seeing an old highschool mate and his wife at a few bbq's... they had been up north for many years...
quite an impressive couple they make... my mate would be a 6 footer.. lean,fit and part kurri... and his missus is an aussie girl close to 6 ft herself.... horse people now... previously on the trawlers...
I tell ya... they look like royalty.... majestic..shoulder to shoulder .. eye to eye... tall... as if made for eachother.... warriors...
sorta makes the other aforementioned couples look a bit "odd".... .... | |

Bigg, as so many have already iterated, it's preference, not prejudice - that's expressed on the profiles.
As for your tall mates, perhaps it is the vibes they're radiating that the ladies are finding so irresistible - the fact that they don't care may be the attraction. How do you project yourself in those situations?
I prefer a man to be a little taller; that's my preference. It's a comfort thing and I guess a security thing. I like to dance with a man and put my head against his chest - not under his armpit and not be looking down on his head. I think many (but not all) women share this preference and you just need to accept it. Then again, remember Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti - I can't think of a better example of a short man's capacity to make a woman happy! (Yes, yes, before all you cynics jump down my throat, I know ... he had money, yadda yadda yadda).
Had a peek at your profile; your looks would appeal to many women; I'm certain of that, Bigg, but your situation may not (separated, children) - so do be realistic and accepting of that. Have patience and faith; the right one will come along - give it time. | |

When women are obsessed over the height of a man, she is setting herself up for failure to a higher degree. Women so often complain about men cheating but when you have a 2:1 ratio of women to men as far women being obsessed on his height to the tall guys they are obsessing over, he has plenty to choose among and even while in the relationship to allow for easy cheating.
The same goes for obsessing over money. Women need to understand the logic but near-sighted thinking will almost always get them into trouble. When a man has so much money to woo a gal he can do the same to other women when she's not looking, even if it's a 30-minute tryst that could easily be kept from her.
Women should understand their inner motivations and counter with reason. | |

Posted: 10/12/2011 11:49:36 AM | We all have preferences whether it's build, colour, age, income etc. That doesn't make preferences a bad thing. Some women have a preference for men over 6 ft, some women just want men who are taller than them when they wear heels.
Being tall, in and of itself, doesn't automatically make a man attractive. It may be one of many features that contribute to a woman finding a man attractive.
We like what we like and that means that some of us will be excluded by the preferences of others just like each of us exclude others by our preferences. That's life! | |

The fact of the general bias is particularly obvious on a site like this because of the large number of women stating their preference for a tall man in their profiles. So while it's certainly true that a man's attitude to his height plays a big part in how much it affects him, being short is a disadvantage in the dating world.
The aspect that I find most irritating is the arbitrary nature of the idea that 6 foot and over is tall, and under 6 foot is short. Particularly since the average height for men is less than 6 foot in most western countries. I've seen countless profiles from women of around 5' 3" and under stating they're looking for a man over 6 foot. If we were accustomed to measuring height in centimetres, then you wouldn't have women saying 'I'm looking for a man who's over 182.88cm'!
So the preference for tall is I think largely innate, but the obsession with the 6 foot man is entirely cultural. | |

Men are far more accepting of the broad spectrum of female shapes than women are of the broad spectrum of male shapes.

Meh, my kids were both very darkheaded yet their little brows would also go red when putting their all into bodily elimination.
I get the OP's drift. Personally I prefer my men just a tad taller than me which is not difficult.
Preferences are just that, but I don't believe in generalising by saying that ladies have an obsession with tall men. This one doesn't - I have other preferences that perhaps don't get stated on my profile as I'd rather meet up and see what magic is there before ruling someone out on something so shallow. Having said that the non-smoker preference isn't negotiable. How fickle I am :) | |
