Not to say that's all that women are good for or that women belong in the kitchen, but it bothers me when I see women almost proudly proclaiming that they can't cook like its a good thing. I don't think men and women are completely equal. We each do certain things better than the other. So make me a ham sammich and ill assemble that table we bought at ikea. Are you kidding me? I can't help but laugh at that statement. Haha. Okay, did you post this in order to get a rise out of women here? Men? What? LOL Need I say that one's GENDER does NOT predetermine what they WILL be skilled at? Apparently I needed to and did so, as it was necessary. Geesh! For the record, if a man can't cook, it can be just as disappointing to a woman, even if she IS a good cook herself. So, take note men... many women DO find it pleasing if a man is a good cook! *WINK*

| Do women cook anymore?? Posted: 9/18/2009 6:50:29 PM | Cooking is what I do best. Cleaning is what she does best. Both have a part in home life. We do what we are best at as though we are one and the same. That is just one aspect of a relationship. We all have skills the other's others do not. That is what makes a couple. What your skill is doesn't matter, just the contribution. | |

I think women stopped spending hours everyday in the kitchen when men stopped being the bread winners. Women have full time jobs and careers now - perhaps you haven't heard? OP - perhaps the party girls that you're dating might not have cooking on their minds
70% of households have the man bringing in more money so it is the woman's responsibility to cook most of the time.
Whoever makes more money is entitled to a home cooked meal. This includes those 30% of women who bring more money in. Their husbands should also cook.

As long as a guy is going to pay for my dinner at a nice restaurant, then why should I even bother cooking?
Here's your answer OP. | |

| Do women cook anymore?? Posted: 10/7/2009 3:54:26 PM | "Whoever brings in more money shouldn't have to cook"?
Are u serious? What world do you live in, one titled "TIT FOR TAT"????
What about taking out the trash? Laundry? Child rearing? If u make $5k more than me do I have to do ALL the household stuff? Or just some of it? What if u make $20k more? Or only $1k??? Like just how does that work in tit for tat world?
So what if u do factory work 60 hours a week and make $24k a year... And I do business consulting and work 20 hours a week but make $60 k a year? Should u still do all the cooking since u earn less, even though you work a ton more hours???
I don't think I could live in tit for tat world. Too confusing to keep track of who works more or makes more.
Me, I prefer to divide duties by what we prefer (ie who likes to cook, do laundry etc) and who has the time. And actually to share chores as much as time allows if we are both busy. I really like the saturday morning chore time that I grew up with where everyone in the house pitches in to get it done then we all go out and have fun together afterwards.
And cooking is actually fun to me when there are two of us in the kitchen working as a TEAM regardless of ones salary!!!! Sheesh!

A day at work is a day at work. Just because one gets $10/hr and the other makes $20/hr doesn't make the day any shorter or take any less energy for the former. In other words, what a load of crrrrrrap.
If both are working, both eat, both wear clothes, both contribute the the messes that have to be cleaned up, then both take care of the daily chores to keep a household running smoothly. Love is about sharing the burdens, not dumping them on the other person based on a lesser income.

Women stopped cooking when they burned their bras.
Really? Hmm ... that's funny because not only did I burn my bra but I haven't owned or worn a bra since, yet I cook. And bake. I also enjoy taking care of my home and family (including taking care of my man when applicable)....OMG...I wonder what 'em feminists gonna say 'bout that? Oh wait. I AM a feminist;)
Whoever makes more money is entitled to a home cooked meal.
Well, I wish I would have known that when my husband was working super long hours while I came home at 4 for all those years...here I was busting my chops preparing and cooking a meal for us and the kids five friggin days a week while I could parked my entitled azz on the couch and watch Opera and wait for him to come home to feed my entitled self because hey, he made (slightly) less than I did.
And um...since my job provided us with excellent medical/dental/drug benefits and I also had better insurance, pension plan, etc. than he did...does that um...ENTITLE me to more perks around the house???
Like...does dental plan = 10 years of dishes? Does 5k/year more = 5 years of laundry? Is that how it works in your messed up tit for tat (I'dratherpokemyeyesoutthanliveinyour) world???

Cooking skills are right behind blue eyes in my book. LOL...then I must be your dream woman because I possess both.

| Do women cook anymore?? Posted: 10/8/2009 7:37:30 AM | | IMHO- I believe that cooking, among everyone, is becoming a lost art, it has become more of a hobby for "Foodies", than a normal aprt of life. Everyone seems to be able to warm up, "nuke" or eat out, more than be able to create a meal, from basic ingredients. It is sad. My daughter has already been taught to cook, and will be able to creat a meal, on her own, with in a few years(she is 12, and well behind where most of the family was at her age, but she is catching up quickly!) | |

Seriously, as someone whose mother and grandmothers started teaching to cook,on a woodstove, no less,as soon as I was tall enough to reach/see over top of it, I find this question completely baffling. But I suppose, younger women/more urban setting might lend itself to limited culinary aptitude.
But my personal feeling that a basic set of cooking skills and some knowledge of good nutrition is a life skill that all adults should possess. Cindy O

| Do women cook anymore?? Posted: 10/8/2009 10:47:11 AM | Forget gender. How can you go through life not learning how to do the simplest of domestic things around the house? I mean, I watch tv programs of grown a** people NOT knowing how to operate a microwave, oven, washing machine and just the other day....a blender to make a smoothie. That is just like.....WOW!!!! Really? Don't know how to use a washing machine or microwave?????
I've been cooking for as long as I can remember. I'm not saying I'm the greatest cook and should start my own tv show! but my God! at least I know how to chop up an onion, boil an egg....make a grilled cheese sandwich. Laughing at now knowing how to cook a souffle, is funny. Not knowing how to cook at all? is just embarrassing. My brother's ex was that way. Always buying takeaways or runny looking tv dinners (disgusting). If he never cooked for them sometimes, he'd be massive! However, in her defense, her mother never allowed her into the kitchen (which I find is ridiculous) so she never learned. But after a few sessions of watching me, she soon picked it up. He's got a fiancee now who can cook some really nice Jamaican dishes so yah dun know she's a keeper!

| Do women cook anymore?? Posted: 10/8/2009 1:26:55 PM | I happened to start cooking in early childhood. I was a girl scout and earned every single merit badge there was related to cooking. Now as an adult, I have the basic skills, and while I am not a cook every meal at home kind of woman, I really enjoy making meals for people I love.
Since the weather has turned cooler, I have made from scratch, vegetable beef soup, chicken noodle soup, broccoli cheese soup, chili, and california medley cheese soup. These were vats of soup large enough to feel the masses. I invited friends over for lunch for no reason other than I had homemade soup. Same with my mom and sister. I sent containers of soup home with my boyfriend for he and his son to have with a sandwich for dinner. I have also fed my kids. Every few days its a new experiement, and I share the results with people I love.
Yes there are women who still cook. We cook because we enjoy it. We cook to do something nice for people we care about. We don't cook just because we are women and its "women's work." Making a home cooked dinner for my man is one of the things I do for him because he enjoys the meal, and I like doing things for him that bring him pleasure. I will continue to cook for him as long as it makes him happy.

| Do women cook anymore?? Posted: 10/8/2009 1:43:18 PM | I cook and love to cook. I have 3 boys who have been taught to cook also. Cooking doesn't always have to be looked at like its a chore. I have enjoyed lots of family time with my kids -- all of us in the kitchen cooking and FYI also all of us cleaning up. And cooking with someone special sounds like a great date to me. So OP -- go buy a cookbook, get your girl and your buns in the kitchen and get to cookin'. | |

LOL. Not sure I would go that far, but it will sure keep him around.
My man once, told me, you're sweet, you are an incredible cook, and you've got the touch. Guess the magic combination is having a good disposition, being able to keep his belly full, and knowing how to take care of him behind closed doors.
Needless to say, for some men, those qualities are a winning combination.
