| Vancouver Island Sept 4-7th Family Friendly Beach Camping Posted: 8/25/2009 11:48:42 PM | I wonder if anyone wants company to get to the camping and back home again? Let me know..... I have no car and don't find I need one until events like this come up. Was thinking that it may be a fun time!!! :) I live in the upper Quadra area. | |

| Vancouver Island Sept 4-7th Family Friendly Beach Camping Posted: 8/28/2009 8:50:47 PM | T_flow and Shy2004 - Thank you so much for organizing this camping trip. I'm sure the weekend is going to be wonderful.
Can you tell me how long the "short gravel section" is and how far is it from the turn off to the campsite?
I am considering bringing my motorcycle, but I really don't like to ride on gravel.
The other concern I have about coming on my bike is my inability to carry water. Is there anyone out there who might be willing to bring extra drinking water for those of us who are space challenged?

Pretty much so... I was mentioning this to T earlier today... According to Environment Canada Forecast... they have it raining Thursday to Saturday evening and not clearing up until Monday... which will make for some pretty hardcore camping ... The good news ... this could lift the band on campfires, if you can get it lite... Unless the forecast changes, I will probably be bowing out also ... but will leave my name in, until we see what the actual weather will be like this weekend.

| Vancouver Island Sept 4-7th Family Friendly Beach Camping Posted: 9/1/2009 7:37:56 AM | You can't be a west coast camper without tarps...unless you drive your accommodations to the site and level it.
I recall as a kid mom & dad going to town every other day to dry out sleeping bags at the laundromat....long beach before it turned into a "euro-tourist" haven priced out of reach for most locals......that was back in the '70's in case some of the younger ones don't remember. I will be brining my usual "anti-freeze" (crown) just in case

thank you for the offer Deb, however i spoke to the lake cowichan fire dept and we cannot use the propane fires.
I'm not surprised - I imagine they would want to err on the side of caution when asked, especially when they are not actually looking at the thing and able to evaluate its safety. It has been judged safe to use everywhere I have taken it where actual fires were banned. That is of course what it has been designed for lol.
Did they say you could have a pit filled with lit charcoal briquettes though? I would be surprised at that - I would consider that more dangerous than a self enclosed tin of fake fire that is extinguished as soon as the propane is turned off.
oh well, I might just satisfy my own curiousity on that one if I go, or for future reference.
Saves it from the marshmallow guk though so that is not a bad thing!
