| great balls of fire !!! Posted: 8/7/2009 6:20:39 PM | To be honest we bring a lot of this on ourselfs, I remember in 2004 we did a tour of the Eastern bloc countries, everybody was really welcoming, it was great, you go there now and they wont even speak to you, why because of all the stag do's and lads weekends.
Nowdays If I'm going to another country, I avoid the English hot spots, that way the locals haven't been turned against us by our own bad behaivour.

| great balls of fire !!! Posted: 8/7/2009 7:07:25 PM | About 7 years ago I took my daughter (then around 10) for a week's break to Rhodes to a resort now imfamous for British bad behaviour; we had no idea what we were going into and were staying at a family orientated hotel. The owners of the hotel used to invite us to sit with them for dinner so we heard first hand about the awful things their guests got up to!
A couple of Aussie backpackers would run and hammer on our door when things 'kicked off' and we'd observe horrified from the balcony - my daughter ushered back inside! They called it "The Jerry Springer Hotel" but it was nothing to do with the owners who confided they were at a loss how to deal with it. One family got blind drunk and argued constantly - a terrible thing for their daughter - leading to the father departing WITH the family's passports, the child begging him not to take them and leave them stranded. The owner's called the police and they came and tried to calm things down, bottles were smashed and it was awful - in such a beautiful place!
We used to walk along to the German 'end' of the resort where it couldn't have been quieter. I mentioned this to the hotel owner, as a suggestion that perhaps he could get a contract with a German holiday firm instead and change his clientelle?
I've been to many Greek islands both alone and with my family over the years, it used to be an idyllic place and although I'm a believer in people being able to enjoy their holidays and 'let off steam' this was yob behaviour at it's extremes and I've no wish to return to Falaraki now!
Was this lady justified in setting fire to his bits?! Erm... no, but he'll never do it again!!
