Two possibilities here. Guys are unwilling to express feelings because they see doing so as weakness. However, a guy who abruptly stops talking to you might have other things in mind. Some men will do stuff like that to see if they can get away with it. They want to see how much you'll put with, how much they can get away with. It is a bad, bad sign. Guys like that want to control you, not be your companion.

Expressing your feelings does not work in the guy world.
In the real world it's nice to have a place to sleep and something to eat.
Feelings don't factor into the two considerations above.

Well, generally speaking, it's not that men are afraid to express their feelings, it's that they have little to gain from it. Most of the time, people don't really care about what men are feeling, the typical reaction to guys expressing their feelings is usually "shut up, stop whining and take it like a man". Not only that but for a lot of women, or other men, a guy who expresses his feelings will be looked upon as weak, insecure and/or effeminate. The average guy doesn't really want to be seen in that kind of light as they have very little to gain from it and much more to lose.
