What a penalty miss that was by Evra and Fergie is ranting about referees already!

So who do you think will win The Premier League next season and why?

Chelsea. Because they will finish with more points than anybody else [ask a silly question]

Will Man Utd do it again despite losing Ronaldo and Tevez during the summer?

No [see above]

Can Liverpool challenge for the title again like last season and go one step further?

No [see above]

Could Chelsea who have the best team on paper actually do the business on the pitch?

Yes [see above]

Is Arsenal your pick despite selling 2 of their best players and having a young team?

No [see above]

Will Man City break into the Top 4 after having spent so much money on new players?

It pains me to say it [ as I'm a die-hard blue ], but no, I don't think we will. A lifetime of disappointments have left me somewhat pesimistic where City are concerned. I would dearly love to be proved wrong on this one though.

I have a mate who is a diehard Wrexham fan, he is surrounded by followers of 'the brand' (Manchester United dropped the words 'football club' from their badge as they deemed it "too working class" [according to their flotation prospectus which I worked on at Michael Peters], and refer to themselves as a brand, so I refuse to call them anything other than 'the brand'. Except of course when I am explaining who I mean when I say 'the brand'), and he recently watched his beloved Wrexham trounce Manchester City 2 - 1, and they are in some sheep shÄggers Welsh league.
So, in my opinion, whilst Manchester City have 'Sparky' at the helm they might just make 5th at a push.
Likewise with Liverpool they are just not consistent enough and Benitez just doesn't seem to like sticking to a winning formula.
Arsenal just don't have enough experience, so it is down to Chelsea who have the team, and 'the brand' who have that added bonus of at least 5 games awarded to them by awful refereeing decisions.
Still, call it stick in the mud blind bigoted stupidity, but every year I always place a 50p bet on 'the brand' beng relegated. I get wonderful odds!

Carling Cup Winner

Well, Leeds became the first team this season to win a Carling Cup tie, when they decided to turn up for the second half against Darlington.

Sadly, they won't be the last team to win a Carling Cup tie this season.....

Perhaps all footballers should be 'branded' by their clubs to show their loyalty to the club and NOT just to the wage packet, and when they defect they can have their 'brand' stripped off.

When I read your post vinfourstar I laughed at your champions pick...

1. Burnley

Two wins in three, against the World Champions and Everton, I am humbled....

well till

2. Everton

A slow start for Everton, they will come good, too much quality not too. Jermain Defoe and Sprs have started well as have Arsenal who seriously impressive in pre-season and have carried forward that mommentum but tougher test in the next game, Man U and a more physical and taller team.

Thats a good idea, like with a red hot branding iron :-) so the likes of Tevez would still have MUFC ;-) on them.

Then they could say they sweat blood and tears for the club

Or like Athletic Bilbao, Athletic only signs professional players native to one of the seven Basque provinces.

So clubs can only pick so many players from the local area.

I have just read your OP,OP,and it does compromise your credibility a tad me thinks?
But as my Newcastle are now getting fat in the fizzy pop league I have struggled with my conscience about posting in this thread!

Msg 39
How does my OP compromise my credibility?
I think I have asked some excellent questions in my OP and this thread is
open for every body to make predictions on how they think the new season will unfold!

So even if the team you follow don't play at the top level anymore you can still join in.
Your conscience can still be clear although it must be tough supporting Newcastle

PS...Its not much fun supporting West Ham either...We lost 2-1 at home to bloody Spurs!

Msg 40,I did not read the op at all but instead I only read the reply at the top of this page that suggested Burnley will win the Premier!
So sorry,I was just quickly passing through. As a toon fan I never need to look at the first page in a football section!

You can be forgiven, though. The thread title bears little resemblance to the topic under discussion, as it is open to every major trophy.

I suspect that the OP was prevented from entitling it The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread (which is basically what it is) because another poster had already created a Football Season thread:

http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts12848068.aspx

which is already into its 4th page of lively debate on all topics relating to football.

So, we now have two virtually identical threads with THIS one having a more limited scope ie the other thread is about EVERY football competition.

So, we now have two virtually identical threads

This thread was to ask people their predictions mostly before the new season started.

I'm quite happy if we only use the other one called Football season as the campaign progresses.

So if nobody else could post on here please or we will get confused having 2 football topics!

We can always bring this thread back at the end of the season to see if our predictions were right or not!

Just click on the link in the post above to carry on discussing anything to do with football.

Cheers.

I would just like to say thanks for nothing all of you that have predicted the mighty WOLVES to get relegated.
Wolves is the only team in the league where the nickname is actually a part of the name of the city it is from.
The black cats? where in Sunderland is that...you shouldbe the suns.
Arsenal you should be the arses
Or is that chelsea (with a small c)
Molineux
just the name sends a shiver up your spine every time you hear it.
Wolverhampton Wanderers is a club steeped in history.Founder members of the football league they have won every one of the major domestic competitions including all four divisional titles the only club to do so.

Really?

Shouldn't they be nicknamed 'Wolver', rather than 'Wolves' on that logic?

The badge shows a 'wolf', but they aren't from Wolferhampton either!

Molineux

Not that impressive.......I have a toaster made by them and it's not all that good.

Arsenal you should be the arses

Er.......even Gunners fans down the FHT yell out "Come on, The Arse!".....

To say your team shouldn't be considered for relegation because of their name is plain ridiculous and I would suggest the reason many tip for them relegation is because of their glorious return to the promise land that lasted a solitary season that if I remember correctly can only be remembered for a 1-0 win over United.

The most spectacular name in the league is Hull City anyone know why? Another is Crystal Palace?

I actually hope Wolves does stay up as I know Sylvain ebanks-Blake, well used too, sort off but either way hope they do well, just don't think they will.

The Hull is a tributary of The Humber, and sounds rather dull.

Perhaps they should have named themselves after the city, which is called Kingston-Upon-Hull?

It worked for one of the rugby league teams....

Another is Crystal Palace?

Named after a tiny village near Croydon!

Some claim that they are named after a grand building which was re-erected nearby, but THAT team disbanded years ago, and have nothing to do with the old building.

Correct stilton!

Crystal palace is the name of the team that is longest in length before the first vowel.

I love football trivia, my favourite question is which player has scored a hattrick at every level of professional football and an international hattrick?
For clarity Premiership, Championship, 1st Division and 2nd division and an international hattrick?

I think it's Robert Earnshaw.
Though i wouldn't say that's at every level of professional football. It doesn't include any kind of Euro competition.
