Free Speech in JeopardyPage 4 of 5    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

It was a crises that Prez "it has to be voted on before anybody reads it" obama, had to have passed before congress went to talk to the voters. Of course obama is not running for reelection next year. Hummm, I wander if the dem's remember what happen after Clinton's first two years in offices???

It's really hard to know what your point is? You seem to talk in riddles what bill did President Obama twist someones arm to vote on without reading it, was it an actual physical twisting?

All we remember is that after President Clintons term was over the country had a surplus and at the end of Presidents Obama's term we will be out of this recession and I will remind you how it happened and who was sitting in the White House when it happened, just like I will remind you who was sitting in the white house for 8 years while it happened.

Maybe you can explain to me how we went from a surplus to a deficit in 8 years without President Bush knowing that it was happening until after it had already happened? Maybe you can explain to me why this happened when he had access to all of the information needed and access to his own economic advisors? How do you think history should treat the President who preceded over the country as it slowly sunk into an economic depression?

One of over 10 thousand links that can disprove this quote which is clearly a romantic delusion:

All we remember is that after President Clintons term was over the country had a surplus

http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RTD%2FMGArticle%2FRTD_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1031785273720&path=%21editorials%21letters&s=1045855935005

"Clinton Budget Surplus Never Existed
Editor, Times-Dispatch: Please . . . in the spirit of accuracy, will you not print any more letters claiming a budget surplus existed during the Clinton years?

While most exchanges in the letters section express differences of opinion, there are occasionally a few that deal with matters of fact. The federal budget is one such factual issue. There was no budget surplus during the eight Clinton budget years, and the nation's deficit increased by approximately 43 percent during his presidential tenure.

Those who choose to dispute that fact should go to the Treasury Department's Website and find the Bureau of Public Debt's numbers. William Ryan. midlothian."

And if you go to that website you will see that it is indeed a myth. Clinton balanced the budget. He never left a surplus.

Clinton Budget Surplus Never Existed

WHAAAT!!!

There was in fact a budget surplus under Clinton, from 1998-2001.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2009/pdf/hist.pdf

Yes, the governments debt did not disappear, but it did get smaller. This is what a budget surplus is. Those years the government collected more money then they spent.

And if you go to that website you will see that it is indeed a myth.

Your link does not work.

William Ryan

Am I going to have to run down every source to determine if it is legitimate? Who is William Ryan?

From fact check:
http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/during_the_clinton_administration_was_the_federal.html

Q: During the Clinton administration was the federal budget balanced? Was the federal deficit erased?
A: Yes to both questions, whether you count Social Security or not.
This chart, based on historical figures from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, shows the total deficit or surplus for each fiscal year from 1990 through 2006. Keep in mind that fiscal years begin Oct. 1, so the first year that can be counted as a Clinton year is fiscal 1994. The appropriations bills for fiscal years 1990 through 1993 were signed by Bill Clinton's predecessor, George H.W. Bush. Fiscal 2002 is the first for which President George W. Bush signed the appropriations bills, and the first to show the effect of his tax cuts.

I think you are a good honest person but in my opinion you are on the wrong side of this debate, honesty is important hearsay is just that it means nothing and leads to distortions and half truths, I think you want people to know the truth and to make decisions based on facts not on fear that is being fed to them by people who could care less about the truth.

Most all can tell that yall's memory is short too....

All we remember is that after President Clintons term was over the country had a surplus and at the end of Presidents

I guess yall forgot about the Repub. congress that Clinton had helping cut spending and taxes. The real reason for the prosperity during Clinton's time.

Maybe you can explain to me how we went from a surplus to a deficit in 8 years

Even though we were fighting a war to defend are freedom, we were still doing good economically . Then the last two years of Bush's Presidency this country messed up, and got a liberal congress Now we are in a rut economically. Are only hope will be getting more Repub. in office who understand "tax & spend" doesn't help the country's economics.
Too many people still suffer from obamaisum to hope for a better economy any time soon........

Odd then that those same huge deficits happened under Reagan. I'm starting to think that huge tax cuts combined with huge defense spending might not be that path to budget surpluses...

American people have finally decided to fight and question what the government is doing.
Their reward from the government is to be berated and called names by governmental officials. Come election time I bet they will be trying to sing a different tube. Bet their opponents are glad for YouTube.

Was watching Hannity for a bit today and it looks like Rep David Scott is already singing a different tune. Rep David Scott was kissing Hannity's butt in his town hall meeting.

Looks like one Democrat has found a way to make a buck out of Town Halls. Democrat Rep. Melissa Bean is going to charge $25 to people wanting to attend her meeting. Looks like they do get breakfast thrown in too.

First-hand Witness to Staged Obama Town Hall Meeting in Belgrade, Montana
by Sue Wells August 18, 2009

By now you have probably heard that President Obama came to Montana last Friday. However, there are many things that the major news has not covered. I feel that since Joe and I live here and we were at the airport on Friday I should share some facts with you. Whatever you decide to do with the information is up to you. If you chose to share this email with others I do ask that you DELETE my email address before you forward this on.

On Wednesday, August 5th it was announced locally that the President would be coming here. There are many groups here that are against his healthcare and huge spending so those groups began talking and deciding on what they were going to do. The White House would not release ANY details other than the date.

On about Tuesday Joe found out that they would be holding the "Town Hall" at the airport. (This is only because Joe knows EVERYONE at the airport) Our airport is actually located outside of Belgrade (tiny town) in a very remote location. Nothing is around there. They chose to use a hangar that is the most remotely located hangar. You could not pick a more remote location, and you can not get to it easily. It is totally secluded from the public.

FYI: We have many areas in Belgrade and Bozeman which could have held a large amount of folks with sufficient parking. (gymnasiums/auditoriums). All of which have chairs and tables, and would not have to be SHIPPED IN!! $$$$$

During the week, cargo by the TONS was being shipped in constantly. Airport employees could not believe how it just kept coming. Though it was our President coming several expressed how excessive it was, especially during a recession. $$$$$

Late Tuesday/early Wednesday the 12th, they said that tickets would be handed out on Thursday 9am at two locations and the president would be arriving around 12:30 Friday.

Thursday morning about 600 tickets were passed out. However, 1500 were printed at a Local printing shop per White House request. Hmmmm......900 tickets just DISAPPEARED.

This same morning someone called into the radio from the local UPS branch and said that THOUSANDS of Dollars of Lobster were shipped in for Obama. Montana has some of the best beef in the nation!!! And it would have been really wonderful to help out the local economy. Anyone heard of the Recession?? Just think...with all of the traveling the White House is doing. $$$$$ One can only imagine what else we are paying for.

On Friday Joe and I got out to the airport about 10:45am. The groups that wanted to protest Obama's spending and healthcare had gotten a permit to protest and that area was roped off. But that was not to be. A large bus carrying SEIU (Service Employees International Union) members drove up onto the area (illegal) and unloaded right there. It was quite a commotion and there were specifically 2 SEIU men trying to make trouble and start a fight. Police did get involved and arrested the one man but they said they did not have the manpower to remove the SEIU crowd.

The SEIU crowd was very organized and young. About 99% were under the age of 30 and they were not locals! They had bullhorns and PROFESSIONALLY made signs. Some even wore preprinted T-shirts. Oh, and Planned Parenthood folks were with them.....professing abortion rights with their T-shirts and preprinted signs. (BTW, all these folks did have a permit to protest in ANOTHER area)

Those against healthcare/spending moved away from the SEIU crowd to avoid confrontation. They were orderly and respectful. Even though SEIU kept coming over and walking through, continuing to be very intimidating and aggressive at the direction of the one SEIU man.

So we had Montana folks from ALL OVER the state with their homemade signs and their DOGS with homemade signs. We had cowboys, nurses, doctors you name it. There was even a guy from Texas who had been driving through. He found out about the occasion, went to the store, made a sign, and came to protest.

If you are wondering about the press.....Well, all of the major networks were over by that remote hangar I mentioned. They were conveniently parked on the other side of the buildings FAR away. None of these crowds were even visible to them. I have my doubts that they knew anything about the crowds.

We did have some local news media around us from this state and Idaho. Speaking of the local media...they were invited. However, all questions were to be turned into the White House in advance of the event. Wouldn't want anyone to have to think off the top of their head.

It was very obvious that it was meant to be totally controlled by the White House. Everything was orchestrated down to the last detail to make it appear that Montana is just crazy for Obama and government healthcare. Even those people that talked about their insurance woes........the White House called our local HRDC (Human Resource and Development Committee) and asked for names. Then the White House asked those folks to come. Smoke and mirrors...EVERYTHING was staged!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very dismayed about what I learned about our current White House. The amount of control and manipulation was unbelievable. I felt I was not living in the United States of America, more like the USSR!! I was physically nauseous. Joe and I have been around when Presidents or Heads of State visit. It has NEVER been like this. I am truly very frightened for our country. America needs your prayers and your voices. If you care about our country please get involved. Know the issues. And let Congress hear your voices again and again!! If they are willing to put forth so much effort to BULLY a small town one can only imagine what is going on in Washington DC. Scary!!

The politicians get that elite attitude and think they can get away with any thing. Sad thing is most do. Like the two senators that have been in the hospital on their death bed. The dem's still vote them in. One dem up in NY said he didn't care what the people of his district wanted. He was voting for obamacare.

By doing a search, you gave the "email" a lot more credibility than it deserved.

Anything I've ever read that started "Dear Penthouse Forum" was a lot more believable than that. This was meant to be sent aound to the true believers - the poster kind of broke a rule by actually putting it up where anyone could read it.

Scientology doesn't let just anyone in on it's secrets until they've got them sucked in completely. Because to an outsider it's pretty clearly nuts. Same thing here: this is meant only for those who believe Obama was born in Kenya; that the health reform bill includes death panels; that anything outside of racial right wing is socialism. Only for the truly paranoid delusional.

Great letter.
In the blogosphere many in the states had their doubts and questions about the Bozeman Town Hall meeting.
Given the Very Conservative demographics of the area it did seem strange that Obama's Health Care Reform plans were not really objected too.
In my opinion this seemed too much like a very staged cohesive meeting with just too many plants inside. This town hall meeting was the worse staged meeting that the Democrats have ever tried to pull off.
I have many, many friends who do not show up on Google. I guess they do no exist. In blogs many do not go by their real names anyway. I would not blame anyone for wanting to reamin annomous after how the media and Democrats have treated us citizens that dared to use our free speech rights.

Hence in the Blogosphere there were be many diverse opinions.

http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/08/14/obama-wins-over-a-montana-crowd-on-healthcare/
Belgrade, Mont.
President Obama flew cross-country Friday into a headwind of rural anger and suspicion about his healthcare reform package. And the mood of the town hall meeting awaiting him at an airport hangar in Belgrade, Mont. was framed by severe weather and about 800 “tea party” protesters gathered on the western horizon.

But in the end, as a hail storm sent the demonstrators outside scrambling for cover, the 1,200 citizens indoors were not only receptive to what Obama said, but gave him standing ovations.

Of 20 different individuals interviewed by the Monitor as they left afterward, all but one said they supported the president’s plan.

In another gesture indicative of how two different Democratic approaches to healthcare reform may be converging before Congress returns this fall, Obama gripped Montana’s US Senator Max Baucus in a bear hug. The president was profuse in his praise for Sen. Baucus who, as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, is the spearhead in any hope the Obama administration has of getting legislation passed in Congress.

Able to spy the crowd of protestors from his cabin in Air Force One, Obama artfully worked the room and deliberately sought out the questions of skeptics who admitted their attitudes were shaped by the coverage of cable TV.

The forum began with a testimonial from a young woman named Katie Gibson who had two different insurance providers revoke her coverage after she was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

“These are ordinary Americans, no different than anyone else, held hostage by health insurance companies that deny them coverage, or drop their coverage, or charge fees that they can’t afford for care that they desperate need,” Obama said.

He reiterated that those Americans with healthcare coverage they like will see no changes, except possible reductions in their premiums as government ends subsidies to insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies. He said it will become illegal for insurance companies to cancel coverage, and he said the 46 million uninsured Americans would have affordable options currently unavailable to them.

He called claims that he is attempting to promote socialism “bogus” and, in response to a question from Cara Wilder, who is out of work with two young kids, he said his objective is not to copy public healthcare as it exists in Canada, Britain, or countries in Europe, but to promote an American one that builds on the free market.

“Because we are getting close [to reform], the fight is getting fierce,” he said, alluding to the derailment of reforms pushed by the Clinton Administration 16 years ago. “The history is clear: Every time we are in sight of health insurance reform, the special interests fight back with everything they’ve got. They use their influence. They run their ads. They use their political allies to scare the American people.”

The town forum was an opportunity for the president to tout the dividends of the Recovery Act, replete with tax cuts for 400,000 working families in Montana, and new loans for 200 small local businesses.

He said there is an inseparable link between rising unemployment and healthcare, noting that in Bozeman alone a recent hiring agency reported that 8,000 applicants had sought 160 jobs. Over 40,000 Montanans also have received extended employment benefits after losing their jobs in the current recession.

One of those whom Obama won over was Nancy Lien-Griffin, whose family operates a small timber and lumber operation in the tiny community of Ennis. She said the recession has forced her to lay people off and there is no affordable way for them to get healthcare coverage.

Obama said a central focus of his reform is reaching out to small business owners and leaning on insurance providers to reduce premiums and have government provide incentives for entrepreneurs to give their workers coverage.

“I believe that insurance ought to be provided through the workplace,” she said afterward. “I think he understands the challenges of small business people.”

Lien-Griffin and her friend Mike Sand, an attorney from Bozeman, said if they had any complaint about Obama it’s been that he’s been slow to spell out specifics of what reform would do. And it has probably fueled the fear some have.

“I was pleasantly surprised by what I heard, and I was impressed by how articulate he was and willing to meet his critics head on,” Sand said.

Just another perspective.

The teabaggers have been instructed to stop looking like loud obnoxious fools in public and to attempt making the proponents of UHC to look like fools. The shouting down of opponents has been working against them as the press magnifies the lunatics.

All anyone needs to do to expose the fools is ask an intelligent question and the fools either turn their back or explode with 'faux answers' that have nothing to do with the question. They can't answer questions as that may require logic, something severely lacking in republicans.

The CEO of Whole Foods speaks his opinion on the Health Care Reform and now his company is being blasted.
He is for Health Care Reform just not the one that is on the table right now.
Apparently 90% of his employees get 100% pd insurance plus some other benefits.

I can"t help but think that this is the craziest thing I have ever heard. How far will the Lefties go. Russell MOkhier was actually calling the CEO evil. The CEO has been known to donate his whole year's salary to charities.

Even though the commentator didnt agree with Russel Mokhier, the group does have their freedom of speech rights.

Why don't you ask Wild Oats what they think about him... He help kill the stock price so he could TO............... Posting rumors and negative crap under different names....... Sock Puppet......

Mackey is one of the original sock puppeters. Between 1999 and 2006, Mackey went on message boards championing his store and deriding competitor Wild Oats (which, of course, Whole Foods took over in 2007). He was investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission and his own corporate board for the posts.

Unions are like Herpes.... Hold out on paying strawberry pickers more...

Mackey has made it quite clear that he's anti-union: According to union activist Sheila Payne, he once said, "The union is like having herpes. It doesn't kill you, but it's unpleasant and inconvenient, and it stops a lot of people from becoming your lover." Um. Ok. He personally intervened in the attempt of a Wisconsin store to unionize, asking workers to instead "'expand
into love." And, as this Texas Observer piece notes, Whole Foods passed out fliers against the United Farm Workers, and declined to sign on to a pledge endorsed by most of the other large grocery chains decrying conditions for strawberry pickers.

Not a really smart thing to .... PO your customers............

"On Friday, Mackey himself responded to the controversy on his CEO blog, noting that he wasn’t speaking for the company as a whole and that he never mentioned the president in his piece.

“I fully realize that there are many opinions on the health care debate, including inside my own company,” he wrote. “As we, as a nation, continue to discuss this, I am hopeful that both sides can do so in a civil manner that will lead to positive change for all concerned.”

Maybe Arrogant????

Mackey health care backlash keeps building

It looks like the backlash is continuing over Whole Foods Market Inc. CEO John Mackey’s op-ed column on health care.

If you missed it, Mackey wrote a piece in last week’s Wall Street Journal, criticizing President Obama’s health care proposal and calling for less regulation of the insurance industry. He also said programs like Social Security and Medicare are leading to unsustainable government deficits.

That didn’t sit well with some of Whole Foods’ fans. As of this morning, there were more than 10,000 posts on the subject on Whole Foods’ own online forum, not to mention plenty of comments on other blog sites.

You know people are upset when you see topics like “This Nurse’s shadow will never darken the door of Whole Foods again”

A Facebook group calling for a boycott has more than 13,000 members as of this posting.

He has damaged his Business.......

Greta Van Susteren gave Russell Mokhiber ample time to state reasons why he felt Mackey and his stores were evil. Time and time again(actually screaming over everyone else)Russell Mokhiber just kept stating Mackey is against Single Payer in the Health Reform, with comments several times Mackey is evil. In fact if you look at the video you will notice Mokhiber monopolizes the whole interview.

Just Maybe Mokhier should get some more facts prior to going on some news show. In my opinion Mokhier made himself look like an idiot with his manner and presentation of his reasons. If in fact some of the reasons in post 96 are why Mokhier and his gang are going after Whole Foods then that actually sounds better but still a bit crazy.
I do feel that this is just another scare tactic, now aimed at all businesses that dare to open their mouths against Obama's present Health Care Reform. JMHO
Like Greta Van Susteren said at the end it is Mokhiber's American right to picket if that is what he wants.

Video of the interview --- http://gretawire.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/08/21/this-got-a-bit-heated-whole-foods/

PS it looks like its backfiring for many that have never shopped at Whole Foods are now looking for one to shop at.

Typical liberal attitude coming from this guy Mokhiber. If they do not like your ideas...your a bad guy. I want to see some stats on the 60 Americans dying everyday comment he kept spewing.
Mackey is FOR HEALTHCARE REFORM...just not the ludicrous plan the obama wants to shell out. We all know the system is broken, we all know it has to be fixed. But to have the obama gang say they can do it when we all know government can not run a taco stand without a deficit is stupid. Why are we putting all our apples in one cart? We need to find a way to reform the system without putting the next 10 generations of Americans in major debt. Trillions ...TRILLIONS...is nothing to laugh at folks...We can not spend our way to healthcare reform..

I have a feeling that Mokhiber's figures might be on but not due to health insurance.
I tried to find how many deaths America had last year but could not.
I do know that gang related deaths even accidental is at an all time even in some small towns. Here in Fresno I think I read about at least one a week sometimes more. Now that is one cause I have not seen our elected federal officials attack lately.
