| ***the official DALLAS COWBOYS thread*** Posted: 5/29/2011 9:02:13 AM | | I always thought the whole "America's Team" thing, was just a dumb nickname someone in the media came up with, simply because they were CALLED 'the cowboys,' and since we USED to think (back in the sixties) that America was all about Cowboys and Westerns, and all that crap. I find it bizarre, frankly, that anyone argues SERIOUSLY about "who REALLY deserves to be called America's Team." You might as well argue about whether or not Geico DESERVES to be allowed to continue to use that lizard as their advertising mascot. | |

| ***the official DALLAS COWBOYS thread*** Posted: 5/29/2011 10:23:01 AM | Igorfrankensteen... no one here REALLY argues seriously over this stuff... it's all done in fun.....SERIOUSLY...*rolleyes*. You know if it bothers you that much there are about at least a 100 kazillion other posts u could choose to read...yup... I exaggerated a "tad" bit, probably only about 99 kazillion other threads.

| ***the official DALLAS COWBOYS thread*** Posted: 6/27/2011 2:38:57 PM | It doesn't bother me that much, I too am only in it for the fun. I happened to have missed the birth of the notion, so I'm curious, is all. I don't get the fuss about it from either side.
I promise not to say another word about it here.

| ***the official DALLAS COWBOYS thread*** Posted: 6/27/2011 9:47:48 PM | LOL Igofrankensteen you can bring it up whenever you want... just didn't want you to think too many of us took the whole thing too serious...lol at least I didn't ..... and please feel free to give the dallas cowgirl fans crap anytime you want too... anyone asks... Tell em MGM said it was ok.
Actually I agree with you as to WHY the announcer would call them Americas team because of "westerns and American cowboys" was a popular back in the 60's.

I think the Cowboys were labeled "America's Team" from losing back to back games to the Packers in the 60's in the final few seconds then losing Super Bowl V (1970) to the Colts on a last second field goal. Then turning their losing ways around when "Captain Comeback" Roger Staubach took over with the Cowboys winning more games than any team in the 70's. JMO.

| ***the official DALLAS COWBOYS thread*** Posted: 6/28/2011 8:40:36 PM | Here are some things that need to happen for the Cowboys to be prominent again:
1. It all starts up front in the trenches. Though Demarcus Ware is good in the pass rush, the offensive line has been crap at best. 2. Tony Romo is not the answer at QB and needs to be replaced. 3. Jerry Jones needs to hire a good coach and actually let the coach do the coaching instead of him. 4. The secondary could use some work. 5. Running game needs to improve.
The WR corp is good and Jason Witten still has some good years left but that's about all that's working for the Cowboys right now. Not that I'm complaining though...

| ***the official DALLAS COWBOYS thread*** Posted: 7/7/2011 6:22:28 PM | The funniest thing I've read all day. Are the Cowboys sure this guy is smart enough to memorize a playbook?
Roy Williams wants to get back the ring he mailed to girlfriend By Chris Chase
Dallas Cowboys receiver Roy Williams is going to court to get back the $76,000 engagement ring he gave to a former beauty pageant winner.
In February, Williams proposed to his girlfriend, Brooke Daniels. When she turned him down, Daniels didn't return the ring. According to Williams' affidavit that was filed in a Texas court last week, he asked for the ring back but was told by Daniels that she had lost it. An insurance investigation later revealed that Daniels' father was in possession of the ring.
Michael Daniels told the Odessa American that his daughter will return the ring to avoid the lawsuit even though he says he has documentation saying Williams told her to keep it.
Pretty standard stuff, right? Minus the price tag, this is a dispute that probably happens every day in the United States. Except it's not because most people don't propose the way Roy Williams did.
From the Odessa American:
Williams has declined to comment for the story, but in an affidavit signed by Williams, he claims he sent $5,000 for school and dental bills, a baseball for Daniels' brother and — as a surprise — a recorded marriage proposal with the ring through the mail just before Valentine's Day to Daniels. However, when Daniels declined the proposal, she did not return the ring.
He recorded a marriage proposal and then sent the ring through the mail? Unless you're a soldier stationed overseas, that's just about the lamest thing I've ever heard. If you proposed through the mail, wouldn't you not want other people to hear that? I'd consider eating the $76,000 just so I didn't have to tell anyone.
It's a shame Daniels is giving the ring back and avoiding trial because we may have learned the specifics of how Williams went about this process. Was there production value in the video proposal? Did he record it in song form? And how did she reject him, with a return receipt?
Update: TMZ reports Daniels http://www.tmz.com/2011/07/07/roy-williams-dallas-cowboys-engagement-ring-brooke-daniels-miss-texas-usa-76-thousand-dollars/#mce_temp_url#. As many of you have pointed out, there's a reasonable chance he then dropped it.

| ***the official DALLAS COWBOYS thread*** Posted: 7/8/2011 1:40:38 PM | MUSTBEKC: the reason I keep hearing why 'boys fans are down on Romo is simply that they feel he is the reason they lose so many playoff games. As a Redskins fan (yes, laugh quietly please, we're all in constant pain here since Danny took over), I find Romo to be a worthy, frustrating opponent, and I've witnessed him be the luckiest guy on the planet at annoying times.
A couple of years back, the cowboys had a center who liked to snap the ball OVER Romo's head in the shot gun, and he did it to him THREE times in one home game. EVERY TIME, Romo ran back, picked up the ball, and managed not only to elude a sack, but turned the busted mess into a first down. One of those times, he chased the ball all the way from the opponents 40, back to his own twenty, before wrangling the thing, and still pitched a first down pass.
But every time they've made the playoffs, he seem to turn into Gary Hogeboom, and starts throwing to the other team. His fault? I only suspect yes, because while Parcels was still the coach, he complained all the time about Romo's lack of discipline.

| ***the official DALLAS COWBOYS thread*** Posted: 7/9/2011 11:02:36 PM | You talk about geniuses KC Were you not the very same guy that left because you were hated for your stupid posts in your own thread?
And now your waiting for Romo to develop into a good quarterback? I'd say getting rated within the top 6 in the last 3 or 4 years means he already developed into one.
What about Dan Marinio guess he should hang his head in shame for never winning the big one either........ or lets put Trent Dilfer in the hall of fame I mean after all he won a Superbowl !!!!!!!! or was it the defence??????????
Seriously your football knowledge is supreme just as before when you left your own thread because you were hated in here by so many I see your inteligence hasnt changed much. By the way there was a Cowboy thread long before this one , so this one has your name on the first post wow!!!!!! guess that makes you a leader in your own way
