| Do you look good for your age? Posted: 8/24/2009 1:56:52 PM | Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, in other words, a subjective question, perceptions
a few words for thought
This saying first appeared in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It didn't appear in its current form in print until the 19th century, but in the meantime there were various written forms that expressed much the same idea.
Shakespeare expressed a similar sentiment in Love's Labours Lost, 1588:
Good Lord Boyet, my beauty, though but mean, Needs not the painted flourish of your praise: Beauty is bought by judgement of the eye, Not utter'd by base sale of chapmen's tongues
Benjamin Franklin, in Poor Richard's Almanack, 1741, wrote:
Beauty, like supreme dominion Is but supported by opinion
David Hume's Essays, Moral and Political, 1742, include:
"Beauty in things exists merely in the mind which contemplates them."
My thought? Simple as usual Inner beauty, as supported by mine own or others perceptions is where real beauty is found.

| Do you look good for your age? Posted: 8/25/2009 3:04:24 AM | In my previous message (102) I stated that attractiveness is subjective and went on to say, rather than have someone tell me how good they look....
"I will look at photos and decide for myself whether I'd consider them to look good.... "
UF (111) I was wondering whether you'd appreciate a subjective appraisal?!

I'm sure that no-one could ever find reason to criticise or to judge harshly any pictures of you, clothed or otherwise.
My offer of appraisal re; your message (111) would be given affectionately and would certainly not involve my throwing it at you!

| Do you look good for your age? Posted: 8/25/2009 9:08:49 AM | I look good for any age! There's no way I'd change how I look.
If you mean, "do I look younger than my age?", which is what people often mean when asking this question, I believe I do.
Most people genuinely take me to be 26 or 27, when I'm 33 in reality.

My argument (102) is that on a dating site an individual stating that he/she is attractive is completely irrelevant as surely it is up to any potential partner to decide whether the individual is attractive or not?
I admired your stance though.....
You claim that "you look younger than your age".... and yet don't display a profile picture.
Come on - how about letting others decide?
EDIT: (121)...Correction...
In (118) you quote... "I look good for any age!" When others suggested you look younger than your age you stated... "I believe I do"
I therefore was fully justified in the comments I made (119)

| Do you look good for your age? Posted: 8/25/2009 9:40:28 AM | No, I said that others have stated that to be the case, many times....and they weren't just being polite.
I don't need for others to decide one way or the other, it's my opinion that counts.
Thanks for admiring my stance though! ;-)

| Do you look good for your age? Are you happy with what you see or do you long to change the way you look? Posted: 8/26/2009 2:20:06 PM | I feel happy about the way I look to a point, and I look young er than my years
I will look in the mirror and think ugh or mmm, depending, and as for changing anything, nothing that a bit of execise and eating properly wont sort out.
I don't believe its for someone else to be the one to tell me i'm pretty, I'll decide that for myself thanks, so well done all you ladies who are happy in your own skin.

| Do you look good for your age? Are you happy with what you see or do you long to change the way you Posted: 8/27/2009 8:29:27 AM | personally im ****ing gorgeous and ive put the worst images possible on my profile because to air my beauty would pale all others into obscurity ..........you are what you are and gawd knows getting older dont make you anymore attractive ......but the one point i will make is that as I get older I appreciate people especially the fairer sex not just for their looks but for who they are ........the most attractive woman Ive dated treated sex as though she was giving me a treat and put nothing in to it ....and im not ashanmed to admit i faked cos knowing she had no real feelings i wanted it over with .....
If i could change the way i look personally i like who I am im bald with a big hooter pretty fit for me age and if whoever dont like me jog on ....I could do with some new clobber though
