| Venting on Facebook! Posted: 8/18/2009 8:02:36 AM | I don't figure the "boss" has any right to be firing anyone for what goes on OUTSIDE the workplace. Is it company policy to have employees checking out Facebook as part of their job? What for? Probably not! Therefore, whatever is on there has NO place in the workplace! Secondly...who in their right minds would put a co-worker or boss as a friend on facebook, especially when they use it as a ranting post area? Makes NO sense. No...she should NOT have been fired. I know English labour laws are different than in Canada....he'd be the one swinging by his nuts in the wind now, if the fired employee decided to take it to court! But still...kind of dumb on her part... | |

"My boss is a total pervvy wanker always making me do s--- stuff." could mean that he's sexually harrassing her.

| Venting on Facebook! Posted: 8/18/2009 10:53:48 AM | Just as another perspective on things:
I have a former boss of mine from years back who has his own blog. We had been friends/well aquainted for a while but at some point it just turned semi sour on his end. When I left said company I never said anything bad about the guy and we left things professionally, even hoping that one day we'd talk again.
So years later I find his blog and not only is he taking pot shots at me, but he's taking pot shots at me using my full name, as in if you were to Google my name you'd find his blog amongst the top listings. I was, and still am, beyond furious.
And here's where it gets better - About a year and a half ago he first finds me on LinkedIn and then on Facebook and sends an add request, refering to me as his "buddy" and "friend", which absolutely blew my mind. He also just straight emailed me on Facebook one time after in a friendly manner and mentioned on his how he was unable to connect with me but this time without using my name at all.
I've taken the high road through this whole thing, as in I haven't responded to him anywhere, I haven't publicly trashed him anywhere or anything like that, but it's incredibly difficult to resist the temptation to rip him a new one.

| Venting on Facebook! Posted: 8/20/2009 10:20:44 PM | I finally had to get onto Facebook to see what all the buzz is about - in the past week, I've had a relative and a friend tell me about how great it is. So when I found out the local Meetup walking group had moved their announcements to Facebook, I broke down to see what the fuss was about.
Truth be told, Facebook is one of the lamest sites I've wasted the time to gain access to.
I find it disturbing that they offer to help you find friends to add - BY ASKING YOU FOR YOUR E-MAIL AND THE PASSWORD TO THAT E-MAIL. Their search engines are very clunky and irritating to use. It's like ancient algorithms or something and bad programming make it necessary to have to keep re-entering search criteria until the engine finally understands.
I'm wondering now, since neither the relative or the friend replied to my inquiry in response to their Facebook marketing e-mails....If those e-mails were not in fact generated by Facebook without their knowledge? Stranger and stupider things have happened in the Internet.
There is NOTHING on Facebook that would ever lead me to encourage anyone else I know to sign up. I don't see anything on it that is any more functional than a local phone directory - except you are now a part of a huge database.
LAME. | |
