Christians & online dating?Page 2 of 3    (1, 2, 3)
luvcast:

While I am not going to disparage PoF as not the place to look for a suitable match for a Christian (I'm on here, but not for dating) you should be focusing more of your energy on looking in your area in the real world. A quick google search turned up dozens of christian singles groups in NC. Talk to you pastor or para-church leaders for names and locations of groups of young men and women that get together for various activities.

When I was single and living in Seattle we had lots of singles activities: I played volleyball on a church league (yeah, I was the shortest), we went christmas tree gathering for ourselves and others, we had boardgame parties and played a lot of trivial pursuit, brunches after church, etc. Don't forget volunteering work. If that is your thing, a woman right for you would be doing similar activities.

While scripture never says that God only helps those who help themselves (God can act in very mysterious ways, often outside our expectations), I think he also wants us to go out in to the world and be the salt. That is where you belong - out there, not inside here.

I've meet Christians here. Some of them act like the bible calls them to. Others act quite differently. However, I feel its that way in real life. The church is full of nonbelievers.

Just like there are people who don't want to date divorcees its just another requirement that is going to make it harder to find "the one"

The church is full of nonbelievers.

Why do they waste time there if they aren't believers? I don't go to church but sometimes I may read the bible that I have in order to make me knowledgeable about it. There are some church workers come to knock my door almost every week, discuss the bible with me, and read some paragraphs to me. I have told them that my culture has the same requirements for me to be a better person. To make me an excellent human being, I cannot depend on anybody else or god, and I must take control of my life by working hard myself.

don't stick to pof... try other christian dating sites like eharmony or christiancafe.com you're better off finding serious minded relationship....

try joining your church activities - you'll find lots of women there.

it depends on how you define "christian" and what that means for you. if it means that you believe holding to certain moral and ethical values is important, then christianity loses a lot of its significance because of course, christians don't have a monopoly on these qualities. but if it also means that going through the motions of showing up at church every sunday is real important to you, then anybody else who doesn't also have the same habit is going to be fundamentally incompatible with you at a lifestyle level and you should probably also seek others on christian dating sites in addition to the relative minority of such folks on POF.

that's the million dollar question isn't it? no two christians can agree on what christians are or who displays "good christian values". what the church needs as a supreme court. the nine robed ones would interpret the bible just as scotus interprets our laws and the constitution. shouldn't be difficult. seems many already have the robe.

i seriously doubt religious girls would be online. i mean, i consider myself pretty "religious". i'm very active at my church. i don't drink/do drugs...etc. i turn down jobs because i prioritize going to church. i strongly believe in God and that He holds our path in His best interest. all that stuff......but i didn't join pof to pick up guys/or to be picked up to be honest. i'm just here for the forum. at the same time, because i'm religious myself, i tend to be cynical of guys and think that they're just saying that they are, to get my attention.

i have a friends who's more "religious" than i am, and she does no searching at all. i guess come to think about it, if you really trust in Him, you'll know that He will just bring her to you, no search needed.

i also have a guy friend who prefers religious girls. even he finds this site shady, in terms of having real "religious" sites. so ya, if anything, as the previous poster suggested, just go to christian online dating sites, you'll have more luck there. plus, you all have the same thoughts in your mind about religion to begin with already.

pnayplayr,

i seriously doubt religious girls would be online. i mean, i consider myself pretty "religious". i'm very active at my church.

Well, I think you just defeated your first statement with your second and third. You're online, aren't you? ;)

at the same time, because i'm religious myself, i tend to be cynical of guys and think that they're just saying that they are, to get my attention.

You're cynical of guys because you're religious? I think that's something negative that stems from your religion, then.

i guess come to think about it, if you really trust in Him, you'll know that He will just bring her to you, no search needed.

All humor aside, that is the most childish, immature, and superstitious position one can take. That position is set for fools who want to void themselves of responsibility (or 'drama' as they see it) in life -- and that things will be served to them on a silver platter if they pray hard enough or love God enough. That primitive, tribal mentality is what brings down the "land value" of society, and honestly, I don't say that with a bitter uncle-scrooge tone at all -- I say that with a tone of great disappointment.

Getting back to the original point, someone saying "Christian" can mean a lot of things... everything from the Homer Simpson type who attends church because "that's the thing ya gotta do", to tongue-speaking, faith-healing "real" (as -they- claim) Christians. It's all across the board. That's why you read the WHOLE profile to see if they put something in there that shows them to have some liklihood of being your type (religious or just any other facet)... and that's why you have to (gasp) get to know them some thru conversation to realize it. But that's a lot of work, right? Why not let God do everything for you with no effort? lol

Well, I am on here myself, though I'm not limiting myself to "christians" and state so on my page. But I've seen several other women in the forums who do say they are looking only for christians, and I'm not even on here looking for women. God gave us brains and voices. We have to use them as we live our lives. We don't sit in our house at a table and say "God, feed me." No, you have to use the things you have available to use. In this era, we have the internet available to use.

Having "Faith" means denying what God gave you as your only tool for living - your reason.

Go out there and figure out what it is you want. Don't put blind faith in "God" to play cupid for you.

I have tried a few sites, Christian and otherwise. I have found them to all be the same. You'll find some here that have great values and are "non-religious" because they've never been around it, or choose not to be. Then you have the Christian sites that are supposed to have "Christian" people with "good values" and such, but they're no better than anywhere else. It boils down to one idea, every type is everywhere no matter the site. If religion is of major importance, don't sway from that. You can't have a meaningful relationship with someone that doesn't share your beliefs and morals, Christian or otherwise. Remember that God works in His time, not ours. Believe me, I'm struggling with that same thing too. He has someone for you, but in His time. In the meantime, keep praying, listening and He will lead you, no matter where you look.

Where perhaps you might be. I cannot remember what I put on mine but I do consider myself a Christian. I think you could find the right person here, but cannot say if you will. I also think that you are not putting too much emphasis as this is your belief and in order to find a match you need to be forward about this :)

So there was this really devout Christian woman who was in her house one day when it started to pour rain....... The rain wasn't stopping, and it had been forecast that a flood was to be expected.....

The lady stood on her porch watching the water rise to several inches as the rain poured..... A man in an SUV drove up and said...."lady....it's going to be flooding here...get in, I'll take you to a shelter where it'll be dry till the storm clears...."

The lady said......"no thank you, I'm waiting on the Lord to save me...." The guy in the SUV shook his head and drove off....

Some hours later, the water rose to several feet, now starting to come up onto the porch......

A guy in a boat came up and said, "lady....get in......you need to get out of here...."

The lady said......"nnnnnnope....I'm waiting on the Lord to save me...." The guy tried arguing with her, but she would have nothing doing. The man shook his head, and left in the small boat to go find other people.

When the water rose up half way up the house....the lady had climbed up to the roof. Just then, a man in a helicopter came.

He yelled down from the helicopter......"LADY!!! CLIMB UP THE LADDER AND GET IN....I'LL TAKE YOU OVER TO DRY LAND!!"

The lady yelled up....."NO!!! I'M WAITING FOR THE LORD TO SAVE ME....!!!"

The helicopter left and went to find other people.......

The flood eventually took the house downstream....and the lady drowned.

When she got up to heaven.... She stood there soaking wet.....with a very indignant look on her face as she stood face to face with God..... crossing her arms and tapping her toes.....

God looked at her and said....."what's wrong with YOU?"

The lady said....." I waited ALL DAY for you to come and save me, and you never did...."

God said...."Lady.....I sent an SUV.....a BOAT....and a HELICOPTER.....what MORE do you want??"

Dude....you're going to have to go to the places where the women have heard and believe this story.... most of them are NOT here!!!

Peace....

Do you think I am putting too much emphasis on religion even though it's important to me or am I just in the wrong place altogether (online dating)?

If it's that important to you, put emphasis on it. Do a search for "christian dating" and you will find tons of stuff. And I've seen plenty of profiles here talking about how God/Jesus/church is the center of their lives. Not my thing, so I'm off to the next profile. No point in pursuing when one's core requirements isn't a match for the other.

My churchgoing friends seem to have tons of church singles activities and general social activities to attend. And if you're having troubles seeking and are so religious, it seems odd to me that you post a question here rather than seek guidance at your church, but there you go.

That said, your profile sounds a bit desperate to me. It comes across to me as "all my friends are getting married and I'm feeling alone and desperate ... help me, because I'm not good at starting conversations, and I'm already feeling awkward about a first date". I doubt that's what you mean, but as little as I know about women I know (from experience) the plea--whether explicit or implicit, and in person or online--is the wrong approach. You might ask for a profile review.

Also, my standard thing is that guys shouldn't have messaging restrictions unless you're actually overwhelmed with incoming messages. Especially if you're posting on the forum. Some people may have a useful reply they don't want public. And they may be over 32 or not live in the U.S. or may be married.

“Not a lot of them say "Christian".”

That’s because Christians have it all wrong! Jehovah’s Witnesses know the truth! They claim that Jesus wasn’t the Son of God. They are right! He’s among us right now! He’s actually in Las Vegas! It’s Chris Angel! Hey, he can levitate! Not even Jesus could do it!

God's not going to do all the work.
It's okay for you to be out looking, even on a website like this. Some of those people with "not religious" written in their profiles may even believe in God without going to church all the time or considering themselves "religious."
But don't get discouraged by the small percentage. It probably IS better for you to go after fellow Christians/believers.
For better numbers, and a better chance, try dating outside of this site as well.

There are bad people and good people in every group. However, you'll find more quality people in religious groups. There is no magic bulliet... just better odds.

I honestly think this site is a good way to meet a lot of people locally but if you were looking specifically for a Chrisitian woman try a bible study or single christian group or network through the few Christian friends you have that might set you up. Volunteer for a ministry at church and get to know others.

Well, the good news is your not old. But, I do understand the loneliness that comes with being single. I would say, stick to your guns and continue looking for the woman that is the best fit for you. And, that would include being Christian. Just as it would if you were of another faith.

Actually, I am finding the same in my area, with very few Christian women. There are more than a few sites out there with a much higher percentage of Christian women, so you may want to consider this and another site, at any given time. And, keep in mind it only takes 1 woman...
