| Aspartame about to be banned? Posted: 9/7/2009 4:53:04 PM | | For diabetics, Stevia is a healthy alternative to sugar that's actually reported to be good for the pancreas, safe in every way. They even have softdrinks sweetened with it now at health food stores. There are alternatives to aspartame! | |

And the methanol argument fools people because most have little knowledge of human biochemistry. We metabolize methanol constantly, since it is a by product of microbial fermentation in the intestinal tract and can be found in fruit juices. Say whaaa? We don't metabolize methanol...we excrete it. Little if any is actually absorbed because of the folic acid and ethanol in fruit juices, etc. "Since methanol toxicity is blocked by ethanol in alcoholic beverages and since inhaled methanol has been shown to spike plasma formate (formic acid) levels, yet similar quantities of methanol from juices has not been shown to spike plasma formate levels, it seems rather ridiculous to automatically assume that methanol from juices would be absorbed and metabolized in the same way as methanol from an artificial sweetener."
"Fresh juices contain vitamins and minerals which can help protect cells from damage caused by methanol. Folic acid, for example, is an important nutrient which helps break down and eliminate methanol metabolites. It is common that many chemicals in foods protect us from toxic substances in those foods."
"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published the following about methanol (Cleland 1977):
"[Methanol] is considered a cumulative poison due to the low rate of excretion once it is absorbed."
Aspartame contains neither ethanol, nor folic acid.
There are over 200 hundred studies on this compound... 200...20000 studies...who cares? The thing to look for is who funded the studies.
Dr. Ralph Walton compiled a list of all of the controlled human and animals studies looking for the effects of aspartame (Walton 1996). Out of 90 independently-funded studies, 83 of them found one or more problems caused by aspartame. But out of the 74 studies funded by the aspartame industry (e.g., Monsanto, G.D. Searle, ILSI, etc.), every single one of them claimed that no problems were found. It is important to note that some of those few "indenpendently-funded" studies that found no effects were funded by organizations that have recently shown have been or were being run by persons with very close ties to the aspartame industry. http://myaspartameexperiment.com/index.php?page=7
The clincher for me in the whole aspartame debate is how it was approved...
"When Donald Rumsfeld was CEO of Searle, that conglomerate manufactured aspartame. For 16 years the FDA refused to approve it, not only because its not safe but because they wanted the company indicted for fraud. Both U.S. Prosecutors hired on with the defense team and the statute of limitations expired. They were Sam Skinner and William Conlon. Skinner went on to become Secretary of Transportation squelching the cries of the pilots who were now having seizures on this seizure triggering drug, aspartame, and then Chief of Staff under President Bush's father. Some of these people reach high places. Even Supreme Justice Clarence Thomas is a former Monsanto attorney. (Monsanto bought Searle in 1985, and sold it a few years ago). When Ashcroft became Attorney General, Thompson from King and Spalding Attorneys (another former Monsanto attorney) became deputy under Ashcroft. (Attorneys for NutraSweet and Coke).
"However, the FDA still refused to allow NutraSweet on the market. It is a deadly neurotoxic drug masquerading as an additive. It interacts with all antidepressants, L-dopa, Coumadin, hormones, insulin, all cardiac medication, and many others. It also is a chemical hyper sensitization drug so that it interacts with vaccines, other toxins, other unsafe sweeteners like Splenda which has a chlorinated base like DDT and can cause auto immune disease. It has a synergistic and additive effect with MSG. Both being excitotoxins, the aspartic acid in aspartame, and MSG, the glutamate people were found using aspartame as the placebo for MSG studies, even before it was approved. The FDA has known this for a quarter of a century and done nothing even though its against the law. Searle went on to build a NutraSweet factory and had $9 million worth of inventory.
"Donald Rumsfeld was on President Reagan's transition team and the day after he took office he appointed an FDA Commissioner who would approve aspartame. The FDA set up a Board of Inquiry of the best scientists they had to offer who said aspartame is not safe and causes brain tumors, and the petition for approval is hereby revoked. The new FDA Commissioner, Arthur Hull Hayes, over-ruled that Board of Inquiry and then went to work for the PR Agency of the manufacturer, Burson-Marstellar, rumored at $1000.00 a day, and has refused to talk to the press ever since. Politics and profits got it approved...not independent scientific research....
Sodium ascorbate (vitamin C) Is not! It is the sodium salt of ascorbic acid. Hydrochloric Acid must be present in order to convert it to C6H8O6.

| Aspartame about to be banned? Posted: 9/7/2009 6:48:53 PM | Banned? Not likely. It's in over 6,000 products.
The chemical food industry (like many others) wield much more power than the government...let alone the industry funded FDA.

| Aspartame about to be banned? Posted: 11/21/2009 3:48:08 PM | Aspartame made my liver function tests go thru the roof. I had started a diet which limited sugar and simple carbs..so I subsituted Aspartame. When my liver panel came back all wacked up and I had to go thru the ultrasound..and other tests. The only thing I was ingesting different was the apartame. Doctors said it wouldn't cause that problem. I did research and stopped using it. 3 months later all of my liver enzymes were back to normal ...except one. 6 Months later all of them normal. A year later ..all of them normal. I use truvia when I need a subsitute or occassionally when I have a taste for soda..I drink diet rite which has splenda in it. Besides the liver problems, my hair had gotten really brittle, I was weak, lethargic, etc. I treat it as a poison..which it IS!! | |

I have never allowed my kids to drink diet soda. Aspartame is a benzine derivative! How can that be good for you?
Thousands of products in our diet and in our very bodies are benzene derivatives. Heart Healthy almonds for instance get much of their flavor from benzaldehyde.
A product being in the benzene family means virtually nothing, benzene is very nearly the staff of life.
Have a beautiful day. | |

| Aspartame about to be banned? Posted: 11/22/2009 4:16:45 PM | Aspartame is, by far, the most dangerous substance on the market that is added to foods. http://www.mercola.com/article/aspartame/dangers.htm Aspartame is the technical name for the brand names NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, and Equal-Measure. It was discovered by accident in 1965 when James Schlatter, a chemist of G.D. Searle Company, was testing an anti-ulcer drug.
Aspartame was approved for dry goods in 1981 and for carbonated beverages in 1983. It was originally approved for dry goods on July 26, 1974, but objections filed by neuroscience researcher Dr John W. Olney and Consumer attorney James Turner in August 1974 as well as investigations of G.D. Searle's research practices caused the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to put approval of aspartame on hold (December 5, 1974). In 1985, Monsanto purchased G.D. Searle and made Searle Pharmaceuticals and The NutraSweet Company separate subsidiaries.
Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. Many of these reactions are very serious including seizures and death.(1) A few of the 90 different documented symptoms listed in the report as being caused by aspartame include: Headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain.

| Aspartame about to be banned? Posted: 11/23/2009 10:13:23 PM | Aspartame is in hundreds of food items, even in sugar I've read. Good population control and profits for the AMA and Pharma. Have you tried Stevia for sweetening? It has no glycemic index. It takes two drops in tea, for instance. Comes in liquid or powder, and I like the vanilla liquid best. Trader Joes, Whole Foods, New Seasons, etc. or Fred Meyers health section carry it. Dr. Hulda Clark tested over 3000 of her patients for 100 parasites, and said everyone with diabetes had the pancreatic fluke, or eurytrema. I refer my friends to onelifeusa, as they have a parasite cleanse for about $16.99 plus shipping. Doesn't hurt to rule out possibilities. I know of people who have ended their diabetes, or halved the insulin. I like natural foods and beverages, myself. I like making sun tea from peppermint or spearmint leaves and filtered water, add a couple of drops of stevia and ice. Cinnamon is also good to lower blood sugar. best of luck... | |

| Aspartame about to be banned? Posted: 11/25/2009 7:16:34 AM | Stevia is hot on the market. But there still no alternative for sugar for diabetics to have.
Right now best bet for non diabetics is to just go Organic unbleach sugar.

| Aspartame about to be banned? Posted: 11/25/2009 1:35:26 PM | I haven't touched artificial sweeteners for years or sugar.
Stevia when needed..from the leaf, you can grow your own or buy a good brand in powder form.
Stevia is safe for diabetics.
