| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/7/2009 5:21:58 PM | Errr.
If you would like to know, I have my blue belt in BJJ, brown belt in Judo (started when I was 7), 5 years of wrestling and 10 years of boxing experience; I have been messing around with Eskrima techniques for the past two years and am a Marine brown belt.

| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/7/2009 6:49:24 PM | Shogun by leg-lock? That is a bold statement. You do know that Machida is a BJJ black belt, right? A leg-lock?

| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/7/2009 7:25:19 PM | | All Shogun does is leg lock. That's his only skill. Leg lock. Oh and soccer kicks. He just happens to be really good at them. It's like Ryu is Street Fighter with his fireball. All you need to know is fireball and you can win. | |

| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/10/2009 5:50:21 PM | Shawn [sic] Sherk punked out against Mayweather. A) They don't even fight close to the same weightclass, so he's essentially picking on a smaller guy B) Dana White's contract draw up was for a 3 fight non-promotional (master-slave) deal. Rofl.
Any fighter who signs with Dana does not respect themselves as a person.

Don't you get tired of me correcting you all the time? Shawn Sherk has fought many times (and currently) as a MMA lightweight (155 lbs), and Mayweather has fought as a boxing super-welterweight (154 lbs). Hardly a huge difference. And I don't think you know anything about what the 'contract draw' was, because it never even got that far - as I said, Floyd chickened out first, and publicly apologized (at the time).
But if you think that Sherk is too big, well, I'm sure that Miguel Torres, Mike Brown, Urijah Faber, Jose Aldo or Brian Bowles could put Floyd to sleep just as easily. rofl
Please, PLEASE try to get your facts straight if you want to come into MMA threads to hate.

Now that's something I like to see.
As for the fight I give a light edge to Machida, even though I can't count Rua out with his Muay Thai. I think this fight might go the distance.

| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/14/2009 12:55:34 AM | Can the boxing fanboys please stick to the boxing threads?
....
Oh wait, there aren't any because no one cares about it anymore.
|
| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/14/2009 5:40:20 PM | Uh.
Saying no one cares about boxing is like saying no one cares about soccer. Boxing outside of the U.S. is massive. MMA is a laughable trend that will never catch on, like American Football.
|
| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/14/2009 5:55:28 PM | I could care less if other countries dont watch American football.. As long as Americans do.. MMA is the fastest growing sport in AMERICA.. thats where I live.. I could care less if it doesnt catch on in...JAPAN!! lol Wheres the mod when you need him?? Someone Ban this hater.. | |

One of these times you will get it.
Shawn [sic] Sherk has spent his entire career at 155. Floyd started off at 125. But what does that matter anyways? We have our 50 y/0 shot boxing champ vs. recent ex-ufc champ exhibit on display.
All you heard was crack...TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER.
flop. Sherdog exploded that day.

| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/14/2009 5:59:56 PM | I didn't start these comparisons. Kenpo did. Should probably ban him first.
Trained with both Urijah and Floyd. Whilst Urijah is in flat out better shape than me, Floyd can do things that I will never be able to do even against a complete tomato can.

| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/14/2009 7:11:19 PM | MMA's growth both within and without of the US speaks for itself. I love boxing, but the truthing is it is floundering on it's home turf.
As for Dana White and his business skills; the UFC is alive and thriving under his guidence. It's rivals have all died. How much are those fighters that work(ed) for it's rivals making? How good are their contracts?
As for Floyd Mayweather, he spoke shit and then chased a paycheck into WWE ... fake wrestling ... rather than being a warrior and proving it. That speaks for itself.
And as for Ti Silva ... he sucks. He's always sucked. The fact that he was at one time the dominant heavy in the UFC is simply a testament to the depth of the heavy weight division.
Now, we could sit here and **** back and forth about what is the superior combat sport, but all that would make us is a bunch of ****es. Warriors test it and prove it, they don't debate it.
But incidently, the ancient Greeks were real warriors, who fought and died up close and personal, looking their opponent in the eyes and smelling his blood all the while. And they valued pugilism, wreslting, and pankration, ie. mixed martial arts, each in their own right.
I'd don't know what the problem with some boxing fans are. Their lack of confidence betrays itself.
|
| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/15/2009 8:22:31 AM | MMA is still rather large in Japan.
It is decreasing tho. But that has alot to do with what happened with Pride and the Japanese mob.
And Sherk has spent most of his career as a welterweight, not a LW.

| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 9/16/2009 9:28:08 PM | TinaT,good for you, don't let anyone be condescending towards you, EVEN if you didn't train in the arts that you do it's pretty obnoxious for him to think he is an authority on the subject and tell you to stick to only using "UFC".
One of my younger brothers is a Marine ( can't say ex-Marine for he says he'll always be one) he is also a police officer and he is not condescending, the youngest of my brothers will soon be a blue belt ( at the moment I don't recall what his style of bjj is, or the name of his MMA school)and will be competing in some televised event in October, my older brother was a wrestler, all three of them often call me up wanting to know if they can come watch the UFC fights at my place when they have good cards ( they'll watch at their place when the cards aren't great). Yesterday and today the three of them called to remind me to watch the new UFC season. BTW my sis prefers boxing, she is heading off to boot camp soon so I know she'll pick up other training too.
My eskrima grandmaster is humble and respectful; my Kajukenbo grandmasters respect both men and women; I can go on and on....
well, didn't mean to ramble.....just wanted to say that others with much more training / experience and knowledge are not condescending.

I note how you have focused on the Sean Sherk thing, and avoided my comment about other MMA fighters closer to Floyd's weight class. Your attempt to frame your argument is weak, bro. *I* didn't choose Sean Sherk, btw, Dana White did. I was just mentioning that fact. But correcting you never gets old.
I didn't start these comparisons. Kenpo did. Should probably ban him first.
And once again, that would be utterly incorrect - tx2az1 was the one who started mentioning boxing here, I just responded. But I am gratified to think that you are so intimidated by my text here as to call for my banning. Hoo rah. LOL

| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 10/19/2009 11:15:36 AM | | Shogun is a devastating striker but overall Machida is a horrible match up for him. Machida is very technical and precise. While Shogun is very wild, with poor technique. I expect Machida to pick Shogun apart for a stoppage in the first or second. That said, Shogun has a chance if he can land a big shot. The one weakness in Machida is that he keeps his chin straight up without any protection. | |
|
| UFC 104: Machida vs. Rua announced Posted: 10/21/2009 5:30:30 PM | I've got Machida in this one. He's too elusive even for Belforts rush attack he often does. If this goes past the 1st, Machida is going to use his superior footwork to wear down Belfort and will knock him out.
Machida by tko in the 1st is my pick.
oh regarding boxing...I've tried to watch it...enjoy it actually but the corruption, especially in the judging...even at the last olympics is just too much for me to stomach.
Boxing is one martial art...MMA is all of them...most boxers don't do well against a novice wrestler or other grappler so...seriously...get off boxings nuts already.
