| fitness Posted: 8/26/2009 10:31:40 AM | Routine stuff: I walk pretty much everywhere I practically can, and make a point of doing it when I know I'm going to be eating or drinking. For example, I'll walk downtown when going to a networking event at a pub (about 10km from where I live).
Cardio: cycling, typically an hour or two spin, 20-35km depending on which route I feel like. Some mornings (like today) I might get out the lightweight dumbells and work up a brief sweat before starting the day.
Strength/bone-building: Working out with heavier dumbells two or three times a week, although I'm reaching the limit of what I can do with those and thinking of going back to the weight room. That's all for health and not appearance; I'm a classic ectomorph, never build big bulging muscles no matter how much I work out.

| fitness Posted: 8/26/2009 7:59:44 PM | The risk with having only one activity for exercise and fitness is wearing out parts of your body.
One friend, a physician, swam competitively and wore out his shoulders. He took up jogging and wore out his knees. He is still very fit and active, but he has accumulated aches and pains for his previous efforts.
Another friend ruined his thumbs cycling on rough terrain with a bicycle lacking front shock absorbers. He still cycles but he's had get a somewhat custom $$$ bike with an unusual configuration (and 29 inch wheels) to cope.
A mix of various activities, if you can do it, would seem to be the smarter choice.

| fitness Posted: 8/26/2009 8:44:22 PM | Well I take my evenings off and am a couch potato...but... - I walk 1.5 miles to and from work (each way) 5 days per week - I'm on my feet walking around at work for 40 hours per week (Pedometer indicates average 45 miles walked/jogged per week) - I do jog/walk intervals around our play area when I feel motivated to do so (2-3 times per week), and keep going until I feel like I'm going to fall over - I walk a lake trail once per week with a friend of mine (6K) - I occasionally do yoga/pilates inspired physiotherapy exercises for 25 minutes each time for back pain and core strength - If I don't feel run off my feet after all that, I do a medium-high intensity strength training circuit for 25 minutes | |

| fitness Posted: 8/27/2009 8:29:16 PM | | I hit the gym 3 times a week and do cardio and free weights. I also have a very strict eating plan Monday to Friday, low carbs, high protein. Weekends I cave in a bit and allow myself indulgences (beer!!). I am aiming to increase the workouts and keep the eating strict for 7 days a week come fall to lose my last 24 lbs. | |

| fitness Posted: 8/28/2009 2:15:54 AM | If you scope up my profile, everything is indeed real; even my vocation is correct as I'm first and foremost a heathen pagan. In the meantime, I also work as a shipper/reciever in a cold storage warehouse. In short, I actually get paid to work out in contrast to what others have posted. Given that I often work in a freezer that is -30 C, you have incentive to bust your stones. Even while I normally operate 3 and 4 wheel counterbalances----technical term for forklift---I still have to hump 30kg boxes of frozen steaks---I also order pick when necessary---and have to hustle to meet delivery windows. That said, I won't be doing this at a proficient level a decade from now.
PS: Don't solicit me for seafood ok?

| fitness Posted: 8/28/2009 7:27:56 AM | ^^ not even if we pout with puppy dog eyes????
I used work with coolers plus deal with lifting up to 50 lbs daily... you're right, its quite the incentive to 'move da azz'

Water aerobics has always been my exercise of choice, but I have to admit I've slacked off quite a bit when it comes to exercise. My treadmill still gets used quite regularly, and I took pilates and core classes in the Winter/Spring, but due to health reasons, never renewed my membership.
I'm currently in the market for a cruiser bicycle and plan to go back to the pool.
I bought the bike ...and I've gone back to Curves!

| fitness Posted: 10/3/2009 2:34:33 PM | | I lift weights and try to play tennis as often as I can. On top of that, I work as a volunteer PE coach for children with learning disabilities, meaning I often participate to show them how things are done. | |
