| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/28/2009 8:18:01 AM | "wouldn't his (or her) status as Commander -in- Chief rule it out. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I genuinly don't know."
Good question. You might recall that Clinton was not court-martialed for having relations with someone of lower rank in his administration .... the reasoning was that the rules that apply to the military do not apply to the president, so it would be likely that being gay would not apply. This assumes that the 'don't ask / don't tell' policy in the military continues. Allowing people to be honest about their gender orientation was supposed to be one of the things Obama would do.
The OP answer was good, but incomplete. It has taken this long to elect a ... whatever the PC words are for Obama's nationalities ... because prejudice doesn't care about the rules of voting for a person and it takes a long time ... generations ... to recover from the damages of prejudice. We changed those we enslaved from property to humans with political rights longer ago than we changed women .... hence a man first. We changed women from chattel to human with rights long before ... oh, wait ... we haven't even yet recognized gays as human beings who ought to have all legal rights... like marraige.
So, my hope would be in her generation we might elect on the basis of political agenda instead of gender orientation. Just expect a straight woman before an openly gay person. Do not expect that an 'in the closet' gay could survive the media examination and stay 'in the closet'

me personally if he wasnt going to paint the white house pink and turn our military uniforms back to the red coat blue coat of the old days then id be fine with them.

Posted: 8/28/2009 9:18:22 AM | Well it looks like we might already have one in office right now or had one in office depending on which sources you believe. Have to say the Obama people were sure interested in shuting up Sinclair at his press conference. Delaware issues an arrest warrent for a Sinclair at his DC press conference. Apparently there were no valid complaints from Delaware, other states yes. Strangely the warrant is signed by its attorney general Joseph Robinette Biden III. If the name sound familar, it should. A few months after Sinclair's arrest by Delaware Joseph's father was selected as Obama's running mate.

I showered before I got online this morning...then went to the Sinclair sites...need another shower...eewww...not in the good way. That's some incredible source, there... (I'm embarrassed for the guy who posted the link)
BACK ON TOPIC: The OP handled her daughter's question well, in my opinion. I still think we'll see an openly Gay man become president before we have a woman elected.

Posted: 8/28/2009 10:45:38 AM | | Right , nothing has been done to help any minorities for the last 50 years while a "Majority" type President has been in Office.....So you are saying that a "Gay" President would be under no pressure from Gay and Lesbian groups to advance their agenda? Obama is a Liberal and he is constantly being pressured and criticized for not doing enough for the Gay community.

He is gay and has been in a long term stable relationship for about 10 years. This teacher is a great leader. The owner of the school has asked him more than once to accept an administrative position, but so far he has stayed in the classroom. The parents, students and faculty all respect and admire him as he works well with everyone, is extremely efficient, and treats everyone with respect. He is now reconsidering taking on some administrative duties. My point is that a person who is a great leader is a person who is a great leader, being gay has no more to do with it than being a woman or being of a minority race, etc.

| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/28/2009 11:12:04 AM | A gay President...interesting topic... You mean a gay topic?
I'm meaning gay as in "joyous and lively".... We don't vote people into office because of their race, or social lifestyle, or wether they are a Dodgers fans.
We have never had an Italian heritage, or a Jewish background, or Asian or Hispanic..... Or a Polygamist, or some French nationalist..... Has there ever been a chiropractor, or a shoe salesman, what about the guy that works at the yellow duck factory?
I know we have had an actor, he seemed to do better than those attorneys. We had a Billionaire with really big ears run once.
But aren't we voting someone in on their abilities.... their knowledge.... People who we think can continue to move this country forward in the right direction.... Keeping us the Country we are.
So then I say.... who cares if they are Gay? or Black? or a Mormon? or only 3' tall?.... It isn't a beauty contest or a chili cook off or who can tie their shoes the fastest....
I get the feeling their is a checklist out there... Irish guy, check..... Catholic guy, check.... Movie Star guy, check.... Southern guy, check.... Texan guy, check.... Black guy, check..... Gay guy, check..... Woman guy, ... sorry... just being (joyous and lively)

| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/28/2009 8:52:50 PM | Long as it doesn't turn into a complete scandal as in the Portland gay mayor case. It's as if half this guy's time has been spent answering, denying, apologizing or lying about his activities related to his sexuality - and a then-minor. And the other half is spent actually accomplishing city business. Nothing wrong with a 42-year old man grooming a 17-year old youth as a future sex partner, then lying about it in his mayoral campaign, right?
Now it's been revealed that with a salary estimated at $118,000, he hasn't been making payments on his houses and they're on the pre-foreclosure list. He refused comment on the matter initially, then revealed he fell behind in payments because of having to pay attorneys up front on the first matter.
A Presidential candidate would have to be extensively vetted, or the security of the country could very possibly be at risk if the candidate's behavior was as occurred in this case.

yeah, god knows no straight politicians in the US ever have hidden sexual issues.
I'm a little lost why being gay has anything to do with the quote. would it have been Ok if it had been a 17 year old girl?

yeah which sources. larry sinclair or everybody else. what a bunch of bull. Which part is a bunch of bull. Sinclair's arrest at his DC press conference with an arrest warrant signed by our country's VP's son Joseph Robinette Biden. Go look up the arrest warrant from Delaware and you will find that good ole Beau" Biden signed it with no confirmable Delaware charges.

the sum total of Sinclairs is stuff that he obviously typed up and some ridiculous conclusions.
and you go look up the arrest warrant. you're making the claim. in fact, lets here how you got access to the arrest record. even larry's site doesn't have it.
like I said, not only a lot of bull, but a lot of opprobrious bull.
however you are in the right party. smear is the republican trademark since Joe McCarthy proved it makes money.

clean as a hounds tooth.
and nothing the democrats have ever done could possibly come close to Joe McCarthy's act or Nixon's perfidy. the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree.

That is what could be quickly found. Many really thought more about this issue when Biden became Obama's VP choice.
What do Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, Attorney General Beau Biden and Hunter Biden have in common? Ties to crime, corruption and lobbyists. The fabricated warrant from Delaware against larry Sinclair that was recently dismissed, originated in the office of Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden.http://www.zimbio.com/Beau+Biden/articles/7/Obama+Bidens+Lobbyists+Corruption+Joe+Biden
What we have is a man, Larry Sinclair, with a very troubled background (which he has acknowledged in full), accusing Obama of doing drugs and having oral sex with him; see here and here. Sinclair has made quite a bit of noise about this all year and has battled for months with Obama's henchmen. The retaliation against Sinclair has been vicious. While in Washington, DC, explaining to the media who did show up about his relations with Obama and the proof he's been gathering (limo, phone records, hotel records, etc), he's arrested for a misdemeanor in Delaware! The State of Delaware is so interested in getting a disabled man on a misdemeanor charge, they spend the taxpayers hard earned money to have him arrested in Washington, DC! Can anyone deny this is to shut Sinclair up if you've followed this story? The interesting part is guess who is the Attorney General for the State of Delaware? Joseph Robinette "Beau" Biden III. Son of guess who? U.S. Senator and now VP candidate, Joseph Biden.http://www.newswithviews.com/Devvy/kidd385.htm
However, Mr. Sinclair plans to be at the Orlando Marriott Downtown at 400 W. Livingston Street, Orlando Florida, with posters of the Book cover and copy of book in hand to call for Joe Biden to answer to his abuse of office; using his son Beau Biden (Delaware Attorney General) to falsely arrest Mr. Sinclair in order to secure his claim to the office of VP; and his providing Social Security Administration false information to attempt to have Mr. Sinclair's disability terminated. http://larrysinclair-0926.blogspot.com/2009/08/join-mr-sinclair-in-welcoming-joe-biden.html

| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/28/2009 11:34:24 PM | Larry Sinclair:
Sinclair admitted in his press conference release that he was a “former recreational drug user and trafficker, a convicted felon for crimes of forgery, bad checks and theft by check”, and that Sinclair’s “background” included the “mistakes” he had made in his lifetime: convictions and prison stints for writing bad checks, forgery, stolen credit card numbers, ect.. Sinclair noted that his “criminal past” contained a “window” from 1980-86 and the “events occurred over twenty (20) years ago”.Sinclair also mentioned the warrant out of Colorado, an “event” that occurred less than 20 years ago and after the alleged hook-up with Obama. http://deathby1000papercuts.com/2008/06/larry-sinclair-arrest-supporters-claim-sinclair-a-political-prisoner/
Yeah...he sounds like a credible source.
Larry supporters have “stood by their man” ever since Sinclair surfaced in his Youtube video at the end of January. Sinclair eventually put together his website, Larry Sinclair0926,where he posted his video and subsequent video’s outlining his case. He also put up a Paypal account where supporters could “donate” to his legal fund.
Sinclair had filed a federal lawsuit against Obama, David Axelrod, and the DNC, alleging a conspiracy to silence Sinclair that was thrown out. He filed a second federal lawsuit against three anonymous posters on the Democratic Underground forum, alleging their comments had damaged his “reputation”. Sinclair claimed $3 million in damages. It was this second lawsuit that supporters were asked to “donate” for the legal costs. Sinclair was able to raise thousands of dollars in donations from his supporters. (same source as above)
Clearly, this guy has a few personal issues.
Public records and court filings reveal that he has a 27-year criminal record, with a specialty in crimes involving deceit. The record includes forgery charges in two states, one of which drew Sinclair a 16-year jail sentence...In prison, according to state records filed in federal court, Sinclair was disciplined 97 times for infractions including assault, threats, drug possession, intimidation, and verbal abuse... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=388&topic_id=5665&mesg_id=5670
Larry Sinclair makes for fascinating reading--in that, "Oh, my God--smell this!" kinda way.

| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/29/2009 12:40:47 AM | What would you have answered ?
"Jesus, you're such a bright kid... Have a seat, will ya?... And pass the Cheerios...
Listen: Your question involves complexities that right now are way beyond your grasp... But no fear... Not to worry... You're on the right track... Some day, all this shit will make some sort of sense... Just keep asking questions, and you'll be OK...
In a perfect world, people would be placed into responsible positions based upon their merits... Their capabilities... Their intelligence... Simplified, it basically means; "Can you handle the job?"...
We put our trust in them to perform in our best interest...
How they choose to conduct their personal lives, after hours, on their own time is really none of our freakin' business...
There can be exceptions to that basic rule; but I'll explain later... When you're older...
So the question as to whether or not that person is gay, hetero, a midget, a paraplegic, a transvestite, a Catholic, a female, a Hindu, an atheist, or a Jew; shouldn't matter...
But lots of arseholes out there still seem to think it does... Those are the people to be wary of...
Oops... You don't wanna be late for school... Gimme a hug; and don't forget your lunch"...

I think a female bi president would have a better chance. Just imagine all the wet dreams....Just look at Sarah Palin, she was HOT!, didnt matter that every time she opened her mouth she embarrased herself, that was OK, she's HOT.
From way above in this thread............
Well, then... I just wouldn't be using sex as leverage... if I were you, Sheldon. Because, you know, there's one thing you don't want. It's a woman with her finger on the button who isn't getting laid
The people of this nation can stomach quite a bit. But the one thing they can't stomach is the image of a vice president with a mouthful of co ck
^^^^^qoutes from a 2000 movie called "The Contender"^^^^^^^ Gay....female....whatever........it still opens up so many doors that we cannot even imagine. I'd settle for a bachelor president just once but that will never happen in our lives.

| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/29/2009 7:12:24 AM | After reading a gfew comments about this topic I began to wonder about all the other issues that eliminate a person as a candidate. One of the most common disqualifiers is regarding marital status. It appears, from what I've heard in the news/media, is that a single person would not be accepted as president. It also stated (often) that a prty would not elect a single person as their presidential nominee.
The reasons were based on family values; deciding on things that are best for family morals, family life. Apparently, the moral fabric of this country is based on family, God and country.
I'd be curious as to the reason a gay person would be deemed suitable for President but a single person wouldn't be?
Another thing, if a President is gay and has hid that fact to become elected, is that the kind of President you want to represent you? The entire facade of having a heterosexual based family brings into question about morals and the purpose of having children.
If a person is gay and hides that fact from voters, negating the opportunity for voters to decide, I think he/she should be removed from office once this person has been found to be a fraud.
