| The best flavor boost to any brownies! Posted: 9/18/2009 10:44:20 AM | | I am going to have to try some of these ideas. They sound scrumptious! Around my house it doesn't matter if they flop, I then just have happy chickens. They'll eat anything! I haven't tried it yet but I have read that you can replace all of the liquid in the recipe with that canned coconut juice to make the brownies taste more like a Mounds bar. Mmmmmm.... | |

yep...i love mole. but its not cholcolate mole. its mole with a slight cocoa taste. The sweetness of mole comes from the natural sugars in the chiles (veggies/raisins) Stewing low and slow... not a hersey's bar.
Im not a advocate of shoving chili into everything...I dont get chili ketcup, jalepeno mustard, or chili mayo. If I want a balony sandwhich with mustard...I'll chomp on a jalapeno on the side, I dont need it in my mustard.

Adds a nice layer of taste, in the same tradition as zucchini bread, sweet potato and pumpkin pie. And by the way, sweet potato and pumpkin brownies are great for fall and Halloween treats, mix the two batters very lightly so you can see the streaks.
Also try pureed, steamed fresh beets.
These add moistness and a fuller, more layered flavor and richer dark color to the brownies.
Also good is 1/4 to 1/2 cup of apple sauce.
Coconut milk, and coconut oil are great, These are nice even for people who don't like the texture of shredded coconut.
A small amount of flax oil or walnut oil (substitute about 1/4 the total oil in your recipe.)
Try adding sour cream. Or soy sour cream.
As for cayenne and chili pepper, the concept is similar to the taste combinations in Chai tea...which has black pepper in it. So this means that the flavors of cloves and cardamom might also be good in brownies...something I might try this week.
I think making a tea of mulling spices and using the liquid instead of the water in the brownie recipe might make for a nice spicy brownie, also.

| The best flavor boost to any brownies! Posted: 9/29/2009 10:33:58 PM | I have to ask...
What is this liquid in brownies???
I have NEVER seen a brownie recipe with liquid of any kind, other than flavoring, you know, 1 or 2 tsp.
Are these the chocolate cakes with frosting that some people call brownies?? I will have to look one of those up, maybe they have liquid. I have never made the cake kind of brownie.
EDIT: Okay, I had to look through 22 recipes online, but I did find two that were titled cake brownies and they both had 1 cup water. One had 1/2 cup buttermilk as well and one had 1/2 cup sour cream. Both had frosting. Is there a reason these are called brownies and not just chocolate cake?

| The best flavor boost to any brownies! Posted: 9/30/2009 9:00:09 AM | I have an excellent brownie recipe that uses 1/2 cup of espresso, and only 1/4 cup of flour. It's definitely not a cake brownie.
And, seeing as a shot is approximately 3 tbsp, I fail to see how adding a shot (liquids!) to a recipe is that surprising.
I'm guessing the recipes aren't called chocolate cake, because cake is supposed to have a fluffy or light texture, and the brownies don't.

| The best flavor boost to any brownies! Posted: 9/30/2009 9:20:31 AM | Apparently "Dirty Girl Scout Brownie" needs clarification
A Dirty Girl Scout is a drink, a layered shot Baileys, kahlua, creme de menthe or peppermint schnapps
A Brownie is the youngest order of Girl Scout
Put it all together and Rax's post is pretty funny, to me anyway. Especially for a good PA Dutch boy like Rax. It just struck my funny bone. Surprise that there is a shot of liquid in brownies had nothing to do with it. There was nothing rude, sarcastic or arrogant in my question on cake brownies for anyone to assume. Every cake brownie I have ever had or seen and the two recipes I saw on them were just that, cake. I do not see where the question should be taken as anything more than a simple inquiry. Maybe that is all they are meant to be, rich chocolate cake for those who like frosting and do not like dense and chewy.
