| Woodstock! Posted: 9/18/2009 8:01:12 AM | | Unfortunately I never made it to Woodstock, but I got to see The Who, Jimi Hendix, The Doors, The Yardbirds, & Janis Joplin in Vancouver in 68 & 69 and it was only $5.00 a show back then. Long Live Rock | |

| Woodstock! Posted: 9/19/2009 2:56:24 PM | Didn't go to Woodstock....I loved the music (Jimi Hendrix, especially), but just couldn't get into the "group sex" or "doing drugs" kinda thing, or the fact that so many upper middle class young people were "playing at poverty" like it was a game.....
And I never understood young people whose parents could AFFORD to send them to college reject all of that, when African-Americans fought and were fighting to have access to that lifestyle.....

What a time to be young! I agree damassteel! How lucky we are that we got to be teenagers and young adults in the 60s and 70s. Well, I think so anyway...easier to get jobs, no AIDS, some of us even escaped war. Protest marches, Women's Lib, no terrorism and ...GREAT MUSIC!!! (Sixties - not seventies - that was terrible for music)...

no AIDS
i think i actually shocked my summer students this summer when they asked me what my years at university were like and i said it was mostly a matter of "so many men, so little time" - at least until Hank and i got serious.
then i explained that i went to university before anyone ever heard of AIDS. and they all nodded and said "oh" in a strangely astonished tone of voice.
serves them right for pointing out that i'm older than their parents!

| Woodstock! Posted: 9/19/2009 5:29:59 PM | I was still a bit young to attend woodstock. I was 16. I did attend Gooselake in Michigan. It was a bit smaller though. Some awesome bands played and um my memory of those 3 days remains fuzzy but im sure I had a great time. | |

| Woodstock! Posted: 9/21/2009 9:21:30 AM | I wasn't born yet but I seen the movie Taking Woodstock, it was enjoyable. But man what a clusterfcuk. Interesting at the end how the guy talked about doing a show with The Stones in San Fran, the one where 2 or 3 people ended up getting killed by hells angels.
Whoops! | |

| Woodstock! Posted: 9/21/2009 4:22:24 PM | I too was saying goodbye to my Marine when he got on that train to Paris Island. He made it back but the friend he went with didn't. Thank you, Artz, for starting this thread. Much nostagia going on in my head now ... Janis, Jimi, Joe.
I'll be at the party -- say when!

| Woodstock! Posted: 9/21/2009 6:09:07 PM | ^^^^^ You are welcome. Oh that box set is calling my name. I was in the Army when we heard the news that Jimmy and Janis were dead. I'm not sure if a lot of people know this but Hendrix was a member of The 101 Airborne. Guys in the 101 took a lot of pride in that especially the Brothers. | |

| Woodstock! Posted: 9/21/2009 6:56:12 PM | I was just shy of 19 and there in spirit. those were the days of sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll, not necessarily in that order. usually it was in reverse. we lost quite a few talented people in those wild years of abandonment. it seemed everyone and their grannies were smoking herb, dang near. concerts were very open, one brought in liquor and drugs and were never hassled. at several concerts we passed our joints to the Security guys that were near us. now, you can't even take your own water. some of that era I miss, some I'd rather forget....some I can't remember!
it was Mr. Toads wild ride.....
