other than that facebook is home to stalkers, nosey people and those you were glad to have left behind when you finished school.

Ok, I'm gonna ask, how can a stalker, nosey person, or anyone else who you dont wish to share any information gain access to your facebook account without being invited or accepted by the account holder?

Because unless you have a lock on it, anyone can view your profile, they do not need to be your friend.

I love it, use it well more than POF. In fact, in the 2 years I have been a member, I have met and slept with 4 women, 3 I knew from school etc. One developed into a 3 month relationship, but for me it is a lot better than POF for getting laid.

The privacy settings on Facebook are set to only your friends being able to see you as default. The only way other people can see is if you change the settings yourself.

And yes, because POF is just here to help people get laid........how romantic!

That was my point Whitey, no one has anything to fear from stalkers or other undesirables unless of course they want to be stalked and have their privacy invaded so that they can then have a moan about it on other sites.

Its a bit like leaving your curtains open and accusing every passer by of being a peeping tom because they COULD see into your home if they wanted to look.

My mum did that to my wee bro on bebo, she even got a hold of his passwords to go into the private mail etc, I won't go into detail, she can tell you herself if she wants, but it was funny as feck.

She even stalks me on here and tells me off if I stay up too late

I believe that was only a recent change? or addition? I recall when I first joined Facebook I had to lock down the privacy settings to only allow my friends to view my profile etc.
I recall some "fuss" being made recently at Facebook having to do more to protect users' privacy.
I think it was even that bad whereby you put someone's name into Google and it came up with their profile?
Anyway the point was, I know people like to be nosey and nose on other people on this facebook thing as I hear people (at work) talk about what they saw on "Joe Bloggs'" Facebook.

Facebook is what you make of it, love it or loathe it, I use it mainly for playing poker and having a laugh with a few freinds on the chat board, saves phoning up to keep in touch...

Must say I like the FaceBook T shirt I saw in the White Rose shopping Centre in Leeds.

Regardless of whether is was a recent change is kind of beside the point. The fact remains that the options are in place for you to be able to control substantially who can see your profile and more importantly who can't.

You still can google peoples names and have them come up on Facebook. I just typed my full name and facebook into google and while my name wasn't the first on the list (it was fourth), it was still on the first page.

Of course it still doesnt mean anything because no one can see my profile unless I have accepted them as a friend. They get as far as the first page where there is no info, just a picture and the option to add me and thats it.

And yeah, people like to be nosey. That's nothing new. Facebook is just another method that some nosey parkers will expose in order to get their daily gossip fix but as everyone knows, gossip pre dates the existence of FB by a long way!

The bottom line is, if you don't want people being nosey and consider yourself susceptible to stalkers (chance would be a fine thing) then you make your profile private and only accept your friends!!!

I enjoy using Facebook. There was a time when I didn't see much point to it, but now I use it for random chat, even more random statuses at time, and met a very very nice man through it.

I can't stalk my kids, because they won't let me be friends with them, but I do have them on msn.

What I'm using it for most at the moment is support as I've just started learning to run, and there are some good support groups, for all sorts of interests.

And of course, some fantastic, waste a couple of hours, games, and some even more fantastic quizes which tell you when you are going to get married, how many children you will have, and even the date of your death, which is always good to know.

Just the usual monotonous pointless waste of space where like minded cretins like to spy on people they once knew or compare themselves against others to make themselves feel better. If you dont have their number on your phone then im afraid they are NOT your friends.

Quote from said cretins , "I've got 200 friends now on facebook"

Reply, "How many of them would be at your funeral next week if you died tomorrow?"

Puzzled look on said cretins face.

What happened to the word aquaintance? Must have been ditched from the dictionary amd replaced with something like 'biatch'.

I use Facebook to talk to family and friends only. Some men on dating sites have asked me to add them on Facebook without even talking to me or only after a few conversations - I find that odd..... Maybe its just me?

I like facebook too. I dont do all that farm and fish stuff but I do update my status to amuse my friends with the banal shite that goes on in my life and I love to read what my friends have put. I did delete an old school friend because he updated about every half hour and it filled up my home page. I didnt much like him at school so I certainly dont give a feck now what he and Mrs Matt are doing for sunday lunch and which office he is in on Wednesdayr. Too much info and none of it interesting. Trish I will be your facebook friend. Just dont bore me to death

have replied in PM to request for more details on Twitter;

re Facebook it's worth noting that if you are in any groups you can be found via this if someone else joins. I guess it's that old case of remembering the internet is not a private entity, it's wide open and you shouldn't post anything publicly if you have any concerns.

This i found out.. i belonged to Portsmouth Group and one day my boss added me as a friend, and then pulled me into the office a while ago... she asked me to either stop my friends swearing as she could see it all.. OR delete her.. needless to say i deleted her and camo off the Portsmouth Group so i was certain she could not see me at all !!

The worst thing about facebook. Something they never told you about. Is, you give your details out. Location, education, family, friends, interests, iq tests, what you are doing now. Logs of your communications. Everything!

It is all paid for. By whom? you may ask. YOU, on behalf of those who collect your taxes. There are many departments who pay to harvest data. Whether its on an individual or collectively.

Now, years later they place bits of "targeted" adverts as a sideline to put you off the scent.

No, I do not smoke anything.

Oh no!

People know where I went to school? ARGH!!!

People know where I stay? ARGH!!!

People know who my family are? ARGH!!!

People know who my friends are? ARGH!!!

People know what my interests are? ARGH!!!

People know what my IQ is based on a poorly developed application that has no significant or meaningful results that can be taken seriously in the slightest? ARGH!

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO???????

I for one am thoroughly scared now as to what the powers that be are going to do to me now they have all of the above information which of course was never on record anywhere prior to the invention of Facebook!!!

talk about WAY too many FB friends...my employer had so many friends on FB that she couldn't add any more...so she started a second FB page!!!! Insanity! I'm also one of the few apparently who only keep people on FB that I actually know, and actually interact with. Every few months I go through my friends, and if I haven't talked to someone since the last time I cleaned out, they're GONE!

anyone that has more than a couple of hundred friends on facebook is just being puerile and more than a bit silly, who in the real world has the time to furnish that many relationships? ridiculous. i recently had a woman who lives in my town friend request me on facebook, even though we had never previously met or spoken to each other...upon looking into her, i found she had almost 1000 facebook "friends"....people who behave in this manner are just twits. end of.
