| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/23/2009 6:35:52 AM | I do have an account, i rarely use it to be honest. Although i confess, in my desperate bid to be Mr. Popular the few times i do log on i accept every friend request without fail......
Half the people i have on there i barely (if at all) know or remember......I've just looked now, it's full of really, really interesting messages that have brought light into my previously mundane Friday afternoon......
I'm delighted to see that some chick i have vague memories of, is 'waiting for Mother' and she is really, really in Love with her 'special Man'
Thrilled to bits that i have discovered that Pete wants me to join his squad in 'band of heroes' (I have no idea who Pete is)
Am astounded yet humbled at Sandy having collected a special egg in 'hatchlings'
And lots of other stuff like this, from people i probably once knew at some point in my life.
I feel elated to see that many people i have as friends have managed great scores on bejeweled blitz.
My walk to work later will have an extra spring in it's step i'm sure....
I can revel in all my 'friends' reflected glory at all the amazing achivements they have attained today.......Because all i have to show for today is a rather long sleep and grabbing the milk off the doorstep.........
Like all social networking sites, it can be great. Although i cant help thinking that lots use it as little more than a tool for telling an uninterested World how brilliant and important they are.......
Actually, i think i'll add to mine that i am brilliant and important...........I'll do it right now........

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/23/2009 6:52:40 AM | I think Fb is ok for what I use it for. Most of my family live all over the UK now mostly in Wales. They have all joined Fb and post their thoughts and what they are up to so I can see whats happening and still feel part of the family without having to 'chat'. I only have 'close friends' which I am happy to allow see what is going on.
I only let friends see friends and use a characature for my main image so the outside world doesn't know what's going on. The info Fb has on me can be easily obtainable from a regular search.
I do despair at those who just add for the pure collection point...not sure thats what Fb was intended for but each to their own. I certainly am not interested in things like the 'farmville' and 'mafia wars' which some seem to like to play there, again it pleases some.

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/23/2009 7:12:22 AM | Even tho i have a FB account i'm not a great fan however it is a good way to meet people especially if you are single. I know many single peeps who have hooked-up through facebook | |

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/23/2009 8:13:53 AM | I have neither a Facebook or Twitter account and from what people have told me it doesn't sound like I'm missing out on much
The fact that I don't have any friends is irrelevant. Honest.

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/23/2009 3:37:46 PM | I agree 100%
How sad do you have to be to let the world know what you're having for lunch... For me this has been created by the internet. Now we have a needy, insecure generation that are compelled to tell us the most blandest shite from their daily lives imaginable.
It's absolutely pathetically sad behaviour and they should be shot! The women are bad but the grovelling male suitors are even worse for sucking up to it cause they live in hope they might actually sleep with them (groan) I'm ashamed to be a man when I see this kind of behaviour from these "Desperado's"
Facebook is nothing more than self congratulatory/self publicising "ego massaging" OH THEY DO CARE ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING EVERYDAY haha bullshit.
If you REALLY need that in your life, you're alone.
Yours Sincerely
A Facebook member | |

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/23/2009 4:00:56 PM | I love Facebook, it's a great way of keeping contact with people who don't live near enough to meet up with. Living abroad means that it's expensive to call my UK based friends on a regular basis so I use FB to leave them quick messages and let people know that I'm thinking of them. Also in my line of work colleagues only tend to stay in one resort for 6 months at a time before moving elsewhere so it's great to be able to keep lines of communication open with these people who previously were in my life for such a short space of time. I also use FB to share my photos, when I first came to Madeira everyone wanted to know what it was like so I simply uploaded all of my photos onto FB and they could all see my beautiful island from my point of view - it's not all about showing pictures of you and your mates p*ssed and acting daft! The only downside for me is all of the apps - Farmville, Mafia wars etc - they really aren't my kind of thing and I'm not really interested in what score people have got on them so I simply hide them from my news feed. Fair play if you enjoy them but they're really not that interesting to me! | |

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/23/2009 4:46:38 PM | I feel like going onto facebook and messing with the girls on there in my area.
I would enjoy the response on both FB and in real life.

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/23/2009 4:51:41 PM | | I am not sure if FB is my cup of tea. I am not overly concerned of being or not being on FB and find nothing special about it i.e. could live without it happily ever after but I do have to give it a credit for helping me find some people from my past whose contact I lost | |

But if you're on a dating site forum you must be a social animal!!!

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/24/2009 1:20:52 AM | | I get together with old school friends from facebook a couple of times a year, it's nice and easy to organise a meet and inform everyone of the details. If it wasn't for facebook we would never have done this cause most of us had lost touch. | |
|
| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/24/2009 5:23:00 AM | | Yeah, I'm still loving the fact that people seem to think it's OK to rip on Facebook and the people who use it.........on a dating site..... | |
|
| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/24/2009 7:22:31 AM | I love Facebook keeps me in touch with people who I want to stay in contact with and allows me to let them know what I'm up to.... I only ever add people I know and have my privacy settings locked down and I still don't show my email addy or phone number to anyone if my friends want it they can ask for it....
The most important thing for me is being able to publicise a car club I'm involved with and with one quick message I can reach all our members arrange meets and generally make sure everyone know's what's going on fantastic!!

I would prefer my email address not to be shown, i have looked but cant see how to do this,
Settings>Privacy Settings>Profile>Contact Information
It then gives you a set of tabs where you can set who can see what in relation to your Email, Phone Number etc etc.

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/24/2009 10:47:12 AM | Personally I do not use any sites where my full, real name is visible.
With one exemption, LinkedIn but that is for work contacts really.....

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/24/2009 12:21:29 PM | I joined facebook a few days ago because im down with the kids, but its already making me queasy - I now realise that I like to keep family and friends contact on my terms.
Cliff notes: facebook is clearly the work of satan himself.

| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/24/2009 1:36:27 PM | Oh good grief...I can't believe how much negativity about how many 'friends' people have. I have 170 'friends' on mine, most are people I know in real life, kids' friends, my own friends, relatives, family friends but there are others who I've never actually met physically but have been chatting to through the Yahoo games rooms for years now, we all kind of followed the natural progression from Yahoo games to Bebo to Facebook. And those friends all have my mobile number and we chat both on the phone and online.
Of the 170, I think I can count on my fingers those who were only added through Facebook and who I've never had a conversation with
And you can even group your 'friends' so that certain ones don't see very much at all about you - useful when some are those you were friendly with before a marriage breakup but who chose the ex's side! I can then pick and choose which bits of information I release to them
Just face facts folks, life and technology marches on and people will utilise that technology how they see fit and if that means Facebook, Bebo, Twitter then that's up to them. Don't knock it just because you don't understand it.
|
| facebook whats the deal? Posted: 10/24/2009 1:45:23 PM | I pop on...say hi to my two kids..then pop off again as I don't want to intrude The only folk on my list are close family and a couple of friends I amn't into adding any old person to my list to make me look'popular' | |

Nailed it.
My conclusion after reading many of the posts against social networking sites in general has been that people generally don't understand how they work or have something to hide that would stop them signing up.
Which again is completely ironic since most people are quite happy to state their distaste for social networking sites while actually being on a social networking site!!!
Yeah, thats right folks, Plenty Of Fish is a social networking site!!!
