I didn't like Facebook when I first got it either, didn't understand what it was all about is more like it!!

Now I LOVE it, use it to keep in touch with all my family and lots of friends who all live in England, I love looking at the photo's when family and friends post them, it keeps me updated in their lives with stuff I wouldn't know much about otherwise.

I have been in touch with quite a few people I went to school with or knew from my teenage years. Yesterday a guy added me who used to be engaged to my sister about 30 odd years ago LOL!! It's been fun catching up with him I must say as he also used to hang around with my ex husband in those days.

Oh and I am addicted to Bejewelled and Mahjong Dimensions.

I don't have Facebook and have resisted the "You have to have it" comments made by friends and family. I don't see the point in it... Add to the fact the dangers people put theirselves in by giving out so much personal information without thinking about it i think i'm safer not using it.

I don't get it either. It's a bit like when my kids used to get home from school and then start ringing their mates (from school) to see what they were doing after tea??!!.

If you have a social circle go and see them I say. Blow face book and all that tosh. Bit the same as watching Cory or Emmedale. So many do that that they haven't the time to go and see their next door neighbours for crying out loud get a life as they say.

I started using it not too long ago and dont really chat to people but just play a few of the games and the amusing part is how competitive people are when its just a game.

I am a lowly level 55 on Mafia Wars (still sucking my thumb) but had an email from a level 650 "mogul" complaining that I kept adding him onto my Hit List after he attacked me and as soon as he paid to get his health back I would add him to the hit list so the result was that he whacked me once and I whacked him several times, spoiling his game. lol
Then if you give them a sucker punch they take it really personally but I find it hillarious when people who have been on there a while get so upset. He threatened to set his mafia on me so I said thats ok I can add you all to the Hit List 3 or 4 times whilst I sit in hospital recouperating. I am not playing fair but whoever said gansters play by the rules lol

In the end I called a truce and asked him to add me as a buddy to save bad feeling.

Its ok but I am always weary on those kind of sites so I don't use my real name and don't add my correct personal details simply for identity theft, thats how people end up getting stalkers :)

I'd love to be interesting enough to warrant a stalker.

I use farcebbok all the time, it's my social and work calender. Most of the galleries, local art organisations and societies have pages, I get to know about up-coming events and open competitions which I'd otherwise not know about. I volunteer at a gallery and a lot of our publicity is done via fb, plus gigs and club nights, in fact I'd have no social life without it! Even my lecturers are on there - which can be a bit annoying as they then know what I'm up to. As I work from home, a part the the one day I spend in school, I use it to keep in touch with people. I don't use the chat thing though, a little too intrusive I think.

First posting, ever...aye carumba!
SO I've read all the posts, and have to say its the majority of girls that prefer Facebook, which comes as no surprise. We are the communicators, whereas men seem to be a little more private?
I've been saved from more than one disastrous relationship by doing a little Facebook browsing..couple of clicks is all it took to find that X was not single and dying to meet the love of his life, but 'engaged' to the soon to be Mrs X, or Y with his incessant text messages and all night flirting and declarations of single hood was 'in a relationship' with a gorgeous girl. You live, and learn, and walk away..
I found my Dad on there after 8 years and now have a new extended family of about twenty people, and got to have my first ever big family Christmas last year, so it's fair to say I love Facebook. I have way high privacy settings, but nothing to hide, and enjoy my friends inane dribble...it's why I love them in the first place, the fools.
The adverts leave me bemused, targeted and downright insulting sometimes 'over 37? Thinking of breast surgery?', erm no, but thanks, so it will probably go the way of Myspace eventually, but it's been a great friend to me, especially when I left Yorkshire after 8 years and had to start again somewhere new.

I use it as a somewhat convienient and cheaper method than mobile phone of keeping in contact with people such as friends I met at Uni who I don't see too many times a year anymore, and such. As for the people who I see on a fairly regular basis, I hardly contact them at all on it, in my eyes there's little point.

But due to the popularity it is a fairly good way to notify people for a get-together, party or such if they're fairly spread out and have sporadic contact, as you'll be fairly certain they did recieve the message. Beats having to tell them one by one on messenger/phone.

Not a fan of the "status update every 5 minutes" folks though, or the ones that always seem to be quite dramatic and "look-at-me" esque.

I have started to be put under pressure by fish to add them to my FB For some reason the fish of late say that it is best to add them first so they can determine if we are compatible before we meet?

Why?!?

I mean my FB has all my mates on it, and also a lot of stuff to do with my hobbies, which I do not like sharing with people that I have not met away from the net.

Are these the new fisheries rules or something?

put me in contact with old friends and made new ones,

know a guy in the UsA, asking about 14th century re-enactment, did I have any bookmarks for sites, so sent him 5-6 messages with all the bookmarks I had

I have been contacted by people I used to work with years ago in a different life! I didnt rate it much at first but I love it now. I do think its a little intrusive at times but it also does a lot of good. It helps find missing people and advertises good causes.

For myself Facebook has been brilliant. It has put me in touch with many people that I would never have known otherwise.

I was diagnosed with a brain tumour back in 2008 and I joined a few support groups on there for people who have been through a similar ordeal. It's really good to be able to talk with people who understand what I have been through and I have also met up with a few people I have got to know via the groups.

I agree though that some people can go over the top just adding people for no reason but in doing that then you open yourself up to all sorts of hackers/viruses etc so I do try to limit my friends to people I do actually know even though I often get friend requests from scantilly clad beautys.

I joined FB but couldn't really see what all the fuss was about. I felt a bit exposed
and inhibited about writing anything about my life for all the world to see.
Strange that really because I am quite frank and open on here.
I didn't want it to be limited to just friends and family because I hoped long lost
friends from my past might get in touch if they saw me. But I got bored and deleted
my account. But I might try it again though

facebook has some great uses - at the moment i am listening in to a live radio show via t'internet , with the added bonus of linking via f/b - live requests , dedications etc - it really gets very freindly and a fun way to end the weekend ,

really nice to know people listening in all over the world to a little community station in south wales !! - [its a reggae revive show]

I was on it for a bit, went the whole hog and had a profile, page, and a group for other reasons then I realised I had no friends (no really) and got fed up with liking this and reading random updates of drivel. So it just ran it's course.

I visit my family the old fashioned way, by visiting them, and nothing comes close no matter how it's dressed up.

I had a whole community of websites online at one time and came to this conclusion:-

Facebook = friend collector
Youtube=subscriptions collector
Twitter=follower collector

What was even stranger for me was that most of the sites all had one thing in common..invite your friends, so there I was..dragging thousands of people I didn't know from one website to another lol

Its a good place to find people you have lost touch with. And just generally have a laugh. But dont understand why people have so many "friends" or post inane comments...get a life..!

I'd guess because they dont know you and/or dont want you knowing their business.
An above msg mentions some fish wanting to be added to see compatibility? Snooping more like.. but it works. I've had women want my FB and when i see their pages some seem a little too free with their affections for me.. Delete.

,lol , true in a way , just to me its abit rude to accept then delete , especially when you,ve done nothing wrong ....., VVVVVVVVVmsg 148 , why add them in the first place ???? seems abit odd , ive only deleted one person due to harrasment .... to me its easy to click the ignore button .... saves all the upset .....

Surely the most likely explanation is that they added someone, then realised that they didn't want to keep them on their friends list (and there could be other number of reasons for that) and so they deleted them

I use to be obsessed with facebook because I use to love gossip, to see who and who are going out and who broke up, It use to be funny then people started begging others to comment and like their status. Have had it deactivated for around 2 years now, and I'm happy though some people go funny with you because you don't have it...
