Are more of you purchasing MAC systems over Windows?

1. The threat of getting malware on your system, even on windows, has drastically been overblown by virus and security software companies to get you to buy their product. Mac historically has been inherently more secure because up you do not have to run as ROOT like you do on windows, but there are the odd exploit here and there, but they are few and far between. As far as the market share argument, if MAC has 5% then they should have 5% of the viruses, but it doesn't...it's more like 0.01%

Do you remember MSBlast [aka the Blaster Worm].
The majority of people do get infected with viri and worms.

Mac OS has been more secure than windows for certain reasons true, but when Microsoft tried to intergrate their take on those features people hated it, and yet they continue to blame Microsoft...

Did the Mac market share start to increase when they switched to i86 and EM64T?

Malware writers go for the most common software, mac/bsd/linux/unix/*nix is more difficult and is just isn't as profitable to infect....I think if everyone ran *nix/mac, there would be many more threats for them...and at the moment, for less effort & higher return ...Windows Malware wins the award. Easier to infect a lot more of them.

I have ordered my MAC ... a Macbook Pro with 4 GB of RAM.

I decided not to get MAC's Office since it does not include ACCESS and PUBLISHER.
They don't seem to have it available on the MAC.
I guess I'll install Office on the Windows side ... I'll be installing Windows as well.
I am not sure if it will be Vista or Windows 7.
My current PC is still running and I just bought a few ink cartridges for my DELL printer ... which has no drivers for a MAC ... so, I need to get a printer with my MAC ... which I did order as well.

I am hoping my current DELL PC lives long enough for me to use the ink cartridges, and for WIndows 7 to be released and tried and tested!

I'll still need Office including Access and Publisher for school.

Soon, I'll be able to see what the MAC is all about!
I am expecting a higher quality system all round.

Thank you all for your input.

Make sure you get apple care it's $299 which gives you 3 years warranty. It can be expensive to get a laptop fixed so I highly recommend it.

Don, I have not forgotten what you have already posted.

I will get the software to run Windows virtually later, when I find out more about running it that way.

I'll start with boot camp.

I did get the apple care ..... a colleague had recommended the one on one as well, but the apple store is an hours drive away ... since I am somewhat technical I am sure I can live with the support by phone.

I look forward to seeing what the MAC is all about!
