| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/29/2009 9:27:35 PM | For those that can't believe that it MAY be possible that the vaccine is bad for you.......and no one would ever stretch the truth...
For you, I offer the can of soup in my cupboard. On the front it's got a "Heart Smart" logo thingy from the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Surely, that must mean it's good
On the side, take note of the 275 calories in the can &.. the 54% of the recommended daily intake of sodium. Salt.
..so clearly the multinational drug companies would NEVER misrepresent a product they create. Tamiflu. It's good for you. Why...just look at the label. It's flu smart.

| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/29/2009 9:32:07 PM | | The answer is If you get it stay home and separate yourself from others. The vaccine is only about 80 percent effective at best! It is a veritable crap shoot for those not in the high risk groups. | |

| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/30/2009 7:27:24 AM | | Brock Leznar had to cancel his Nov. 21 UFC heavy weight championship title defense fight because he's been in bed for four weeks with the h1n1 flu. Brock Leznar! F'ck if he gets ko'd for four weeks straight and has to cancel a 2-3 million dollar pay day, I'm gettin' the shot. | |
|
| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/30/2009 7:35:09 AM | | It might only be 80% effective at best as FW quoted. I've actually seen stats saying 70 to 92%. However, if you get vaccinated and still get H1N1 your case will be a lot less severe and for a shorter duration. | |
|
| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/30/2009 10:28:30 AM | | Some people perhaps enjoy being carriers of bullshit and are simply selfish while others do not wish to become carriers of the H1N1 virus, so they get a shot. It depends on what you want to spread around. | |
|
| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/30/2009 11:33:45 AM | | Even if you have been vaccinated for H1N1 you can still carry it, but you won't necessarily get sick from it. | |
|
| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/30/2009 11:52:24 AM | Well there's some goods news coming from bad - Brock Lesnar is out - eff'n finally!

| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/30/2009 12:47:14 PM | Listen up mr Chairman---have you had all your mucous membranes cultured recently??? If not you likely have no idea what germs are growing in your body-so take your opinion and let others have theirs. It is NOT BS as you seem to think. | |
|
| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/30/2009 1:31:19 PM | | You make me ill...haha. Like I won't take any precautions any longer now regardless of the fact I've been vaccinated. I'll touch every doorknob in sight and shake everyones hands and stick my fingers in your mouth. Give it up. We're all not retarded here. If I sneeze and cough on you "don't worry"...I have done only that which was also very simple...got the flu shot. | |
|
| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/30/2009 8:50:45 PM | You sir are the simpleton! What is easy for you may be difficult for others and vice versa. On your profile you express the opinion that forums suck, so I am left wondering why you participate, especially with your derogatory comments. They make a most negative contribution both here and elsewhere. | |

| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/31/2009 6:36:25 AM | | Come on folks....if you want to get the shot, get the shot....if you don't, don't. Respect each others choices when it comes to this topic, there is no need to post childish chit. | |

| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/31/2009 7:11:00 AM | | Now I see in today's paper that those not in the high risk groups are being asked to postpone getting the H1N1 flu vaccine for at least a couple of weeks! How is it that 600,000mdoses were ordered??? | |

Because people like the chairman lined up for the shot all in a panic, rather than letting children and the elderly (those actually at risk of dying) get the shot first.
The vast majority of those who have died or come close to dying from H1N1 have been those with an existing medical condition (immune system problems, respiratory problems, etc) or the very young or old. The chances of a "healthy" person first getting the flu in the first place are relatively slim, and then actually dying of it are actually pretty astronomical. Statistics prove this - look up the number of cases worldwide since swine flu first hit vs the number of deaths.
Yet there are still throngs of those NOT in the high risk groups lining up for the shot before those in the high risk groups have received it. All while knowing there are a limited number of doses available right now. Absolutely staggering.

Yes, it is staggering.
I do intend to get the shot for my daughter and myself but she's over 10 and we're both in good health. I wasn't about to rush out there and get ahead of people who are more in need. I thought it best to wait about 2 weeks and now there may not even be one available for us??? The early bird gets the worm, I guess. Not really fair at all.

| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/31/2009 9:40:22 AM | The absentee rate among Calgary’s Police Service has doubled, and tripled in the Calgary Fire Department. Why? Because these “essential services” people are not considered “essential” enough to join health care workers at the front of the line to receive the vaccine.
Despite asking Alberta Health Services for access to the vaccine since October 19th, the Deputy Chief of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency has been unable to secure it, even though he has indicated he is prepared to hire a private health care company to administer it.
I guess Alberta Health Services, Alberta Health Minister Ron Liepert, Premier Stelmach AND the media have not considered WHO is going to control the panicked masses now that they have been whipped into a frenzy over the H1N1 virus, who have been convinced they're going to become deathly ill and die if they don't get the vaccine, yet who do not have access to it because there isn't enough.
Brilliant. | |

| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/31/2009 9:54:32 AM | | Hey you have absolutely no idea what my situation may or may not be. So don't pretend that you do. In any event.."PANIC"...I don't think so. But unfortunately look whats happened over the course of only six days. Who dropped the ball? And now the finger pointing begins. I suggest you go point your finger elsewhere A-hole. | |
|
| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/31/2009 9:55:50 AM | | The front page of the Calgary Sun says "Don't Panic". Why didn't they say that from the beginning? Say that those who are in more need of it should get vaccinated right away. I feel for those people who are in the line-ups with all the healthy people that are panicking. Standing in a line-up isn't any fun at the best of times let alone if you're not in the best condition. I won't worry if they run out of vaccine. We will most likely be fine but it's concerning for those that are high risk if they are unable to get vaccinated. | |

| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/31/2009 10:09:10 AM | | I work at one of the Calgary hospitals, and our nursing staff sick calls have not increased. It can't be thanks to the vaccine, because it needs time to become effective nor have all the staff been vaccinated in the hospital. I do believe that the police, EMT and the fire department should have had the same treatment as AHS employees thus meaning having on site clinics since they are in the front line. Also, after reading the posts from a certain male on this topic, I can understand why he's single and will continue to be. | |

You know, my Mom was a nurse for 42 years and she almost never seemed to catch things like the flu, colds, etc. I often wondered if it was because working in that environment you build up a natural immunity to things?
|
| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/31/2009 12:12:01 PM | Yes you do!!! To Anti Elvis-just as kids develop immunity by playing with others! Hold ur horses-I agree. It is just stupid that EMS workers etc would not be ranked with health care providers by whoever set those priorities. But then what should we expect from the Minister of Health who is a high school drop-out?!!! Hopefully he will not be in that position forever! | |
|
| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/31/2009 12:52:20 PM | | Please do not compare our health minster to high school drop outs. That is very unfair to all of the decent high school drop outs. The folks in charge of the immunization program have seemingly dropped the ball. As our elementary and junior high school age kids are very likely to contract and pass this flu virus along there should have been shots in the schools. Provisions could also have been made to supply the other high risk people like our seniors to go to the school after the kids have gone home. Then administer to the rest of us. | |

| are you getting the shot? Posted: 10/31/2009 1:04:53 PM | ^^^^ Forget that he dropped out of school..ask yourself how come a guy that spent his career as a radio & TV dude..and worked for Telus becomes the "Minister of Health". Should a minister have SOME experience maybe? At least some exposure to understand what challenges the health care system endures on a daily basis?
Years ago, when I was living in Ontario, we had a Minister of Health. I can't remember her name but I remember she was a chain smoker. That's like being a marriage counselor when you're a serial dater.
