| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/15/2009 9:51:58 PM | That book doesn't divulge all that you really should know. It may give you generalisations, but there are 7 laws of Universal Attraction.. and you need to know how each one works, and how it will work for you. The ‘Law of Attraction’ states that whatever is broadcast out into the universe is joined by (or attracted to) energies that are of an equal frequency, resonance, or vibration. There are many ways to express the ‘Law of Attraction’: Where your attention goes, your energy flows. That which you think about expands. Like attracts like. That which is like unto itself is drawn. There are also a number of words that people, who don’t know about or understand this law, use to describe it. You may arrive home triumphant in your chariot amidst a shower of praise and rose petals... Yet despite your efforts, you'll never be equipped to shake the prosaic slave standing firmly behind you, whispering in your ear... "Remember... Fame is fleeting"...
We are all free to wish...
Wish wisely.... | |

Has anyone experienced this working? The way you describe it? No. I've never experienced
you will recieve what you are thinking about. My mind does not grant wishes. I've tried for years. Mostly focusing on Powerball. I've never received anything. Everything I have for "good" or "bad" is a direct reaction and consequence to previous choices and thoughts.
I have experienced that there are internal influences and variables affecting my life that my conscious personality can only focus on a little bit at a time though. But it's far more easy to label as absolutes of "good" and "bad," and then move on. Labels and shortcuts make my life easier and more efficient. Compartmentalize and put things in little labeled boxes to create associations and automatic responses. But really there aren't absolutes of "good" or "bad," as there are positive and negative outcomes to everything. My opinion of course.
My mind does influence my behavior. Crazy thing that. Thoughts influence present behavior, affecting future consequences, which becomes the present, which affects my future from that point. Past experience influences present thought and options for behavior. People sense more things than they consciously pay attention to but everything goes in, no matter how small and seemingly innocuous.
What a weird and new concept.
Maybe some people should start a whole school of thought on the subject. Call it individualmindsensingexperiencology, or...ummm... psychology, anthropology, archaeology, marketing, sociology, or something.
Anyone read this book? Sort of. Probably not in the same frame of mind, mood, or approach as you did.
Your opinions? My opinion is that it's hilarious and sad how people can make money as writers of self help books, they get others to believe has secret knowledge, by **stardizing what is readily available but may be more complex.
So when you have bad thoughts about something you need to change your thoughts to something that you want that makes you happy. Great advice. Don't look for what the bad thoughts are a reaction to, just ignore them and paint over with happy thoughts? Ignore bad things and they go away?
I hope you never complain when a guy just disappears and never calls you again, even though you thought you connected. Just go on to the next guy. Never determine the personality traits or circumstances that may have led up to it so you can spot it in the future. Just think happy things and "believe" it won't ever happen to you again. Of course if/when it does, then it's not like what happened in the past. It's something new. Because you're all happy now. So it may be the same outcome, but just change your perspective. So he didn't just disappear, he just realized he wasn't "good" enough for you. Problem solved. Here I thought that was simply rationalizing. But it's good to know it's okay as long as you're happy when doing it.
I guess good thoughts are from god, and bad thoughts are from the devil. If we just ignore the bad thoughts and force ourselves to think good and happy things, then that's all we get. We deny the devil because those bad thoughts have absolutely no purpose in our lives. In fact they are naturally bad. Individuals didn't classify them, the devil did, and then infected us with them. There is no other reason at all for people to have, or pay attention to, bad thoughts.
One GREAT way to start training nothing but good and happy happy joy joy thoughts is alcohol. Hang out with happy alcoholics. Maybe do some heroin. Feel good all the time. Say no to the devil, do some crank. Feel happy, have happy thoughts, and nothing but good things will come to you.
In essence, IMO, that is what the book is saying. Force your paradigm into a specific perspective. See the positive in everything. "Oh look, a gunshot wound. Now I get to learn all about the trauma center at the Hospital and make new doctor friends! Learning dayyyyyy!"

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/17/2009 12:16:29 PM | | hahaha, why are you wasting your time reading the book? There's a video. It is bogus and an attempt at manipulation, but try it if you believe in it I guess. It is trying to keep people from resorting to crime. | |

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/22/2009 11:45:11 AM | | I've watched the Secret and What The Bleep do We Know. They were okay, but it wasn't anything I didn't already know from studying Hermeticism. Thinking positively is obviously more healthy than thinking negatively all the time and stressing yourself out and creating stress hormones. I compare negative attitudes with giving up. Imagine if Edison gave up before he invented the light bulb. "Meh.. it's a waste of time, I'll never figure it out, I'll just sit around and get fat instead." I prefer David Icke's material to the Secret/self help stuff. Some people say he's crazy, but we're all a little crazy in our own way. If the brand new SUV isn't what your "true self" wants/needs, then you can wish all you want, but it probably won't fall into your lap. Programming your sub-conscious has been around for centuries. Some people quit smoking etc with hypnosis, etc. | |

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/22/2009 12:37:58 PM | You have to understand the American mind set. We are a very religious people. And...... we are very gullible.
Anyone can make a fortune on any crack pot idea, as long as it's wrapped in a pseudo/quasi religious framework.
Does the law of attraction work ? Of course it works...... but not the way you think.
You have to remember. God sends you what you need. The Devil sends you what you want.

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/23/2009 3:28:33 AM | Does anyone know if this book is in any way connected with the encounter/seminar folks marketing "The Secret"?
I saw a news blurb on tv last week sometime about how their participants keep on dropping dead. It sounds like a bad EST seminar. No one gets to use the bathroom. No one can leave or eat, or drink, no clean changes of clothing etc. That particular group is based in some corporate office building in L.A. I was going to post about it on this thread that night, but got sidetracked.

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/23/2009 10:03:33 AM | ^^^ I think your thinking about Scientology.. they do lock you in a room and if you are with a friend they will separate you, deny you food and water an washroom breaks. It happened to a friends of mine who just wanted a tour of their facilities.
They ending up buying their "bible" just to get the F out.

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/23/2009 11:30:10 AM | "asically in a nutshell it says that you get what you think about.
It says that if you focus on something and also combine those thoughts with a happy emotional state you will recieve what you are thinking about."

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/28/2009 2:27:59 AM | The universe supports the reality of your beliefs absolutely. When you believe you must struggle for abundance, then it will bring about situations that are conducive to struggle; when you believe you cannot experience love without pain, the universe will give you exactly that - love with pain; when you believe it takes time for an illness to heal - then so it will. There is not a single force opposing you, there is only ONE force supporting you absolutely. It is called LOVE, the force that birthed you, that created you in its own image. This love is so magnanimous it will give you exactly and absolutely whatever it is that your reality entails. Change your beliefs and you change your reality." ~ Author Unknown ~ | |

Nope, not Scientology. Them I know all about - their "church" was in the middle of my beat and I regularly had to accompany distraught parents, spouses, friends to confront the hucksters and try go get their loved one out of there after being sent thousands of dollars claimed to be for other things like nonexistent emergency operations and the like. They even tried to recruit me each time I went to retrieve someone.
Though this particular guy sure seems to have operated very much in the same manner. Yeah, here it is...James Arthur Ray - I guess he even appeared in the movie "The Secret" and all his stuff is based upon it. Law of Attraction, etc. Dozens of people sat in an overcrowded makeshift sweat lodge and were baking to death because they thought this ignoramus knew something life that they didn't. To the tune of thousands of dollars apiece.

It says blog, but it's obviously written by a journalist - lots of related links in this ongoing case there. If that isn't enough, just do a search for "James Arthur Ray sweat lodge deaths".

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/28/2009 10:59:52 AM | The underpinnings of this stuff works in life. In a nutshell: how we think and interpret life is what we get out of it.
However, as a person with a marketing background, I am amazed at the exceptional marketing spin they have put on it. How truly amazing to simplify and package this stuff, put a jacket of awe and mystery around it and make lots of money. Kind of like how EST and The Power of Now guy (his name escapes me at the mo' and I'm too lazy to look it up) repackaged Buddism and marketed it. New money for old rope.
However people access it, and however people profit from it is fine. Won't begrudge people making money from the repackaging efforts. It does kind of disturb me that the repackaging of this is based around getting more things in your life rather than getting more out of your life. But I suppose that is what has the initial draw for people, so it's a natural place to land on.

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/29/2009 8:52:55 PM | | Well I beleive in the principle but there is a lot more to learn and it is not simply wishing for things or thinking about things alot. And its about knowing not thinking...big difference... can't learn it from a book | |

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 10/30/2009 8:23:34 AM | | this is what Nightline was talking about last night about this Ray guy where this woman died in the sweatlodge. these people paid this man 6000 to 7,000 to shave their heads and play like a homeless person. the news played a tape where Ray did says "you are responsible for whatever happens to you by your thinking." after he went on Oprah about 4 years ago with the Secret book he became a millionaire overnight avj 4mil a year | |

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 11/5/2009 7:07:46 PM | I liked the brain graphics in the Bleep movie.
It's been pretty much already proved we can train our brains to seek, enjoy, and get hooked on, the more positive mental states, even if we were raised completely differently from that.
Why in the world would you want to NOT do that? Go for it. Even if universe doesn't operate exactly as they're describing, we can only benefit from embracing gratitude for the abundance that we truly do already possess whether or not we recognize it yet.

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 11/5/2009 8:24:27 PM | | Don't be fooled too much. The law isn't really "you get what you think about", it's more like, "you ARE what you think about". To use a recent example, if you're terrified to get h1n1, like so many people are these days, that doesn't make you more likely to get it. However, if you are afraid to get sick, that does make you afraid. Your experience will be filled with fear and anxiety over the flu. Me, I'm not really afraid to get the flu at all. I don't care. Whatever, I've accepted getting the flu as part of winter. I get the flu almost every year. Then there are these health freaks who are scared to death to get sick, and they brag about how they haven't been sick in 20 years bc they are so healthy and all this annoying garbage. So although I do get sick, I do not live in fear. The health nuts, although they don't get sick, they do live in fear.... and it would really suck to be them if they were to actually get sick. | |

| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 11/15/2009 3:35:03 PM | The real Law Of Attraction, for women, is : "money talks, and BS walks".
For men it is: "She who puts out the best, and most, gets to ride my train".
All else is illusion, or BS.
This is why you see beautiful, young, women with rich, old, abusive, geezers...and fit , young, men with fat, ugly, old fellatrixes.
The thing the OP is speaking of used to be called 'Sympathetic Magic'. It works-or seems to-to some extent, some of the time...but not well enough to counter the REAL laws I have stated above. How many guys do you know of who happily daydream of having sex with JLo...without ever nailing her? QUITE A DAMNED FEW! So much for the alleged secret.
|
| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 11/15/2009 10:10:07 PM | | The Secret is way too incomplete of a book to work properly, in my opinion. One of the main things is that you have to keep working toward the same goal. You can't want to marry Jessica Simpson one day, and then Mariah Carey the next day. You can gain more insight from simple meditation than you can from reading The Secret. | |
|
| Law of Attraction, aka The Secret Posted: 11/16/2009 9:18:14 AM | Nope, haven't read the book but have always been a believer in the art of visualization, which I think you're getting at.
It doesn't happen overnight. Sometimes it takes years, even decades, but you've got to be true to that which you visualize.
Just my thoughts from this end of the pond!
