| My first Russian mail order bride! Posted: 10/29/2004 1:13:54 AM | | That's a GOOD ONE RIDE ! I believe people have tried to mail themselves before ! That could be a really inexpensive way to travel. I may consider this with my budget ! That would be much better than Hiding out in a wheel well with all the temperature changes and altitude ! I'd definitely opt for next day or same day. Maybe a drop shipment. I'd pack a tooth brush, space food like Tang, and a letter opener ! | |

| My first Russian mail order bride! Posted: 10/29/2004 4:04:41 PM | | I know someone who married a Russian woman he met online. She was really upfront about the fact that she was looking for a better life for herself and her son. He was having trouble meeting someone here and didn't want to put off starting a family any longer. The marriage has worked out fabulously. He spent about 6 months in Russia before she came to Canada which helped. He got to know her family and the life she was coming from. As long as people are honest about what there expectations are it can work. | |

| My first Russian mail order bride! Posted: 10/30/2004 8:03:36 AM | To Krypto....
Had you sent her/Fat Yuri the $600.00 you will then find that as a requirement for her/Fat Yuri to show that they have sufficient funds to cover their expenses to America. Usually this will mean another $500.00.
Then there will be a bad accident or a relavive will become very sick and there is no money to pay the Doctors or to buy Medicine. So you will have to help out with some more money.
Another version of this is that her purse will be stolen by a thief in the subway and she will have lost all of the $500.00 that you had sent to her and could you please send her another sum of money.
This will continue until the money well (you) dries up :)

| My first Russian mail order bride! Posted: 11/1/2004 3:54:55 PM | | In my case, her name was Nadezhda. And the calamity was Beslan, although she lived in Alekseevka, Samarskoiya, near Khazhakstan and was hundreds of miles away. She was not only attractive but with fair english and a good hearted nature. Unfortunately, the address she gave was bogus. The small care package I sent came back after 6 weeks with the russian equivilant of NSP. I was heartbroken. | |

| My first Russian mail order bride! Posted: 11/1/2004 4:23:06 PM | | I did read your earlier thread and I understood the slam. I was relating my own encounter and it's tribulations. One thing that I did discover thru all this is that there are reputible services that set up introductions and assist in processing visa and the such. They also have an interest in shutting down the scammers and are actively working with local and US law enforcement to track them down. In some cases they have been able to recover lost funds. That is rare, but encouraging. I don't want to mention the name of the site, for conflict of interest, but you can find them easy enough. More importantly, they have a wealth of back info on current conditions in the CIS. Yes some of it is bad, some people really want to leave yesterday. After Nov.2 and Bush is re-elected, you'll see the same here. | |

| My first Russian mail order bride! Posted: 11/6/2004 12:10:07 AM | Dark_Moon: LOL exactly! I have been so flattered that men from certain countries under 30 (a paradise for a woman at my age?! :p) are that interested in me and ready to move to Finland! And always the certain countries.
Still I want to say a couple of words:
a) Some men in Finland prefer a Russian or Asian wife since they are more feminine and do not demand them to participate householding so much :p Some of the marriages seem to work pretty well, some are just… disgusting: I do not blame only those women who might see that as one option to survive but also those men who are ”buying” these ladies without thinking they are human beings as well. b) One needs to remember the cultural differences… Russian women have different standing point what becomes to marriage. They have been living in a culture where the man’s task is to bring money home, more the better. The definition of good marriage differs from what we are used to think. In many Asian countries the family makes the rules how to marry. For example in China, Thailand,… daughters and sons responsability of the rest of family is huge. The daughters are good ones if they manage to marry so they can economically help the rest of the family, as well. Could it just be so that we in the West have a different point of view? Which does not mean we need to change it :p I am not going to marry a young man from e.g. Nigeria :p AND STILL I am not going to "play along and wait for nude pictures from him!!!" Wouldn't that be cruel?

| My first Russian mail order bride! Posted: 12/25/2004 1:03:02 PM | I have an old friend on his fourth Christmas with his lady, but they met on line not through a brokerage, I guess it works. It has for centuries. A lot of people were married in this country that way in its early days, Its what you make it, not what you make it out to be | |

| My first Russian mail order bride! Posted: 12/25/2004 2:15:00 PM | While Russina dating agencies often put the ads in, especially the "free" sites, this one looks genuine mostly because the English is just so awful. Veronika is probably genuine but the models with the "professional" looking photos done in a studio are probably not. Sorry to disappoint you guys, but Russia is not a country full of "10"s all single and waiting to "create family" with you. Watch out for the Russian "@mail.ru" addresses... just a email clearing house for a commercial venture. There are genuine women in Russia, but many have to use the dating agencies because they lack access to internet services, language skills, digital cameras or a way to scan a photo into a .jpg Unfortunately many of those profiles are written by some Boris... not that "10" Ludmillya or Olga that seems to apper in the profile. If you do find a photo that is "candid" it's more likely to be from a genuine poster.
Your biggest challenge even if you do find a woman from Russia, marry her and bring her home, is keeping her happy.. the cutlure shock is huge and Russian women often don't do very well in adjusting to the North American culture.... and once uprooted they miss their families big time. A large percentage return because they simply cannot adjust to life in the States or Canada ... forgetting the agencies, you can easily spend $10 grand in travel for yourself and her, visa fees and other costs for what might become a risky venture in love. The chances that you will get hurt both emotionally and in the pocketbook are very high.
Better bet is look at the Philippines... they are almost ALL bi-lingual and most speak English fairly well albeit usually with a strong accent. Filipinos are used to travel, in fact most families have at least one member who is "abroad" , either working in Hong Kong or the Middle East so they adjust well to a new culture. They are comfortable marrying foreigners and their Catholic roots create a strong value system regarding marriage and family. But if you do you will soon learn about "balikbyan boxes", remittances, large "chattering (in Tagalog or Cebuano) families" and you will quickly find the cheapest way to be phoning the Philippines.

| My first Russian mail order bride! Posted: 12/25/2004 3:02:40 PM | Hey PandoraRevealed...
You'd be amazed at the number of North American women who are also interested in a Filipino husband...you know, it's a 2 way street "Pandora". For both sexes, people from the PH tend to be a little less sef-centered and their attitude towards both family and others in the community tends to be a bit more altruistic... and for those of us in N.A. who have been hurt and "burned" by the selfishness and and greed of those around us, the ethic offered by these people comes as a welcome alternative... at least to me, the idea seems pretty appealing.
