OP ... I'd rather see single payer, but will definitely settle for public option if we can get that.
Pelosi said she will not let it out of the House without the public option ... GO NANCY!!!!!
Maybe we are looking at our First Woman President, she sure seems to be able to stand up and take the heat any time she needs to, I loved the way she handled the drill baby drill lobbyist puppets

The study was done by a pro Health Care reform advocate .... the study is also 9 years old.. It doesn't indicate how lack of Insurance allegedly caused these deaths..
Milkin is wrong ... again.... Nothing new...
This is NOT the 1993 study...........
The new study, “Health Insurance and Mortality in U.S. Adults,” appears in today’s online edition of the American Journal of Public Health.
The Harvard-based researchers found that uninsured, working-age Americans have a 40 percent higher risk of death than their privately insured counterparts, up from a 25 percent excess death rate found in 1993.

3% - 4% NET profit margin... which is typical of many, many, many companies. Actually health insurance companies have some of the lowest returns on investment and equity. Not to mention their profits have grown at a much slower rate than most business their size. Clearly anyone making the arguement insurance companies are making big profits can read a balance sheet or an income summary.

How about we change the Font and eliminate all that crazy spacing.... That sounds good..Is that the GOP plan?
Maybe the GOP should read it. Are they too busy? Illiterate? Lazy?...
Sen Roberts... The Lobbyist need 72 hours to block passage....
How about posting the CBO break down....

Jack-
In all seriousness.....is 72 hours adequate for analyzing a bill that will cost between 850 Billion and a Trillion dollars....and is 1990 pages long??
I never understood the rush.......either from a Republican/Democrat proposed bill.

In all seriousness.....is 72 hours adequate for analyzing a bill that will cost between 850 Billion and a Trillion dollars ... Would that be too much money to throw at helping the majority of currently uninsured Americans get health insurance so they too could get access to health care?
If we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, all that war money that you all have obviously had no problem throwing down the toilet could go towards helping our own people.
Why is money such a big problem now? Wasn't it a problem during the last 8 years when that administration didn't even bother to put the war money in the budget? That's like trying to get a look at how much it costs to run a household but don't bother to put the cost of food in the budget.
This president has it in the budget. I anticipate that's probably because that's where it should be, but it certainly does make the budget look different ... eh? Is that why the conservatives don't want to help fund good health for Americans? They'd rather be throwing all that money at the war machine?
I just don't understand. They have no problem throwing billions and trillions after capturing OBL because around 3000 Americans died on 9/11 ... not to mention that we are maiming and mutilating and killing so many wonderful Americans in the process. No on seems to have a problem with that but could care less that over 122 Americans die every day for lack of health insurance ... over 45,000 every year.
Where's the logic in that?

Maybe everyone should have been paying attention.
How about those CBO numbers? Were they 850 or a trillion.... Whats up with that? We pay the CBO $$ and they cannot come up with a Number? Are they former Enron guys?
Sen Roberts wants the 72 hrs for the lobbyist.....
"The thing that I'm trying to point out is we would have at least 72 hours for the people that the providers have hired to keep up with all of the legislation that we pass around here, and the regulations that we pass around here, to say, 'Hey, wait a minute. Have you considered this?'" Roberts said. "That 72 hours, I think, is highly, highly important."
No GOP'er will vote for this anyway....
This is too restrictive.... Kills Free market H/C insurance. The bill will Repeal the anti trust and price fixing exemption....
"Whats the hurry?" .....
......The Mantra since this started....... ha ........ this started last century.......
The Medicare Scrip bill went from closed doors to floor ...... The vote was held open over night ...... the longest vote ever... It works great.

This bill represents 40 years of health care reform efforts by the democrats and 40 years of resistance by the republicans.
The bill if not passed does not represent failure for President Obama it represents failure for the people of the USA who will see health care just become another luxury affordable to the rich, the rest of the population will continue to subsidize the rich but their health care benefits will be restricted by their ability to keep pace with an economy that has seen the rich get richer and the middle and poor get poor and poorer.
Sell your stock in the health care industry the gravy train financed by the middle class wage earners is over, health care is not a luxury to be enjoyed by a few it's a necessity to all americans

From NBC's Chuck Todd House Democrats are trying to fight back against Republicans on the "numbers" front when it comes to their just released health care bill. As many folks know, the cost per page and the number of pages have been used as sledgehammers by Republicans to hit the bill.
So House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn's office passes along this numerical breakdown:
-- It has been 80 days from when the House bill was first introduced. The public has been able to view the bill and extensive information about it online the entire time.
-- It has been 126 days since the House discussion draft was first made available online.
-- There have been 100 hearings on health reform in the past two years, including 8 since the discussion draft was released.
-- There have been over 81 hours of Committee markups on the bill, over 86 hours of hearings, and over 203 hours of Democratic Caucuses.
-- Republicans have had ample opportunity to debate the bill and offer amendments – and they have. During the markups, 129 amendments were offered by Republicans and 23 were passed.
-- Democrats have promised that the reintroduced bill will be publicly available for 72 hours before the House votes.
-- Democrats have held roughly 3,000 public events on health reform this year, including almost 2,000 between August and now.
It does say a lot about this health care debate that the back-n-forth in the House right now isn't about policy but about everything BUT.

WASHINGTON – Buoyed by two major endorsements, House Democratic leaders on Thursday predicted swift passage of President Barack Obama's historic health overhaul initiative. The president himself declared, "We are closer to passing this reform than ever before."
With a vote set for Saturday, momentum gathered behind the sweeping legislation to remake the U.S. health care system and extend coverage to millions of the uninsured. The American Medical Association and the powerful seniors' lobby AARP both threw their weight behind the bill Thursday. AARP, with its 40 million members, promised to run ads and contact activists to gin up support.
"I urge Congress to listen to AARP, listen to the AMA, and pass this reform for hundreds of millions of Americans who will benefit from it," Obama told reporters during an unannounced visit to the White House briefing room after the endorsements were announced.
It's just a matter of time until health care reform becomes a reality, 40 years of trying and the democratic party has stood the line for "all of the people"

Go to the site that your cohort offered it disputes your statement that the Democrats just want a government take over of health care
The statement below was rated as true by http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/personalities/barack-obama/statements/
If you "already have health insurance through your job, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have."
listen to what they said before not what they are saying now what they are saying now is only to get it passed once it passes they will move to get what they really want....
Do you have a crystal ball or is this just your opinion or do you have a source
Here is the thing that so many are missing with Obama as President unemployment has gone from 7% to 10% thanks to him many who had Health Insurance no longer have it......
It would not matter who was in office, corporate america and their republican buddies have stripped our economy, their are few employment opportunities and it will probably get worst before it ever improves. OUR PRESIDENT is doing every thing possible to create employment if you can think of some thing that will create jobs please enlighten us
I think everyone who is supporting this should read the Bill.....its not all milk and honey.....
I am still wondering why the republicans who have been in power for 20 out of 28.9 years have never tried to reform health care or illegal immigration while in office, I just can't stop wondering why? Maybe you can tell me why they have choosen not to tackle these tough issues and why for the last 40 years they seem intent on stopping any reform the democrats offer

| Public Option Alive and Well Posted: 11/7/2009 4:55:13 PM | What i don't think ppl understand is that the majority of ppl who will benefit from this bill is the single working mothers. Women for too long have been considered a financial liability for health insurance companies. Why?.. the cost of prenatal, birth, and postnatal care. We are your mothers and we deserve respect and fairness! Women are also less likely to be hired by an employer because of this fact too. Since offering health care to a man is often cheaper. This bill will help our workforce, children, economy, elderly, and middle class. Work force... Allow employers to be released from the burden of paying for health care and can afford more workers. Children... will get complete care economy... many American will have less money going to health insurance and more for other things like car payments, mortgage, and household items. Elderly... fills the medicare part D gap. Middle class... forms a formidable competition for private health care companies, and prohibits unethical insurance practices. | |

| Public Option Alive and Well Posted: 11/7/2009 5:11:27 PM | | You are a egotistical and shameless person. This Health care reform wouldn't be an issue if the industry didn't get so greedy in the first place. And that statement about unemployment is the most common republican argument, and do I need to remind you what Obama walked into. Recession, 2 unpopular wars, already high employment. He has not been in office for one year yet and you are so quick to blame him for all of America's problems. Can you see what is wrong with your rational? It is such a shame that you are such a cave dweller, cuz you look like you have health genes. | |

| Public Option Alive and Well Posted: 11/7/2009 8:14:29 PM |
Here's the bottom line: the odds are better by the day that before the holidays President Obama will sign a health insurance reform bill that for the first time provides Americans universal health insurance coverage -- and includes the choice of a robust public option.

|
| Public Option Alive and Well Posted: 11/8/2009 6:17:45 AM | Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone might steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.
Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.
Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One to do the studies and one to write the reports.
Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So They created the following positions, a time keeper, and a payroll officer, Then hired two people.
Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.
Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one Year and we are $18,000 over budget, we must cutback overall cost."
So they laid off the night watchman.
NOW slowly, let it sink in.
Quietly, we go... like sheep to slaughter.
Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter Administration?
Anybody? Anything? No?
I didn't think so!
Bottom line: We've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency... the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!
Ready??
It was very simple...and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.
The Department of Energy was instituted on AUGUST 4, 1977... TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.
Hey, pretty efficient, huh???
AND NOW IT'S 2009 -- 32 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. THEY HAVE 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB THEY HAVE DONE!
THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT WAS I THINKING?"
Ah, yes -- good ole bureaucracy.
AND, NOW, WE ARE GOING TO TURN THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY OVER TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT? HELLOOO! Anybody Home

AND, NOW, WE ARE GOING TO TURN THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY OVER TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT? HELLOOO! Anybody Home
There would be no auto industry or banking system left if the government "we the people" had not stepped in to bail them out.
Health care was going down the same road to extinction it was just a matter of time
|
| Public Option Alive and Well Posted: 11/8/2009 7:10:51 AM | Wrong, there would have been an auto industry without gov't intervention. Maybe not GM or Chrysler, but someone would have picked up the slack. Same for the banking system. In fact, gov't intervention via TARP is now producing as many problems as it supposedly cured. And besides most of the TARP $ didn't go to banks. It went to the holders of the credit default swaps like Goldman Sachs. Health care was/is no more in danger of extinction than****roaches. What you're confusing is health care and health insurance. While some reforms were advisable the bill that passed the house isn't it. I mean how good can it be, if you have to threaten fines and jail time to get people to participate. Makes me wonder whether Mrs. Pelosi is the speaker of the House or the chairperson of the politburo. You'll also notice that once again she couldn't resist throwing in a political payoff in the bill. It denies funds to states which pass tort reform to curb malpractice lawsuits. That's about a 50B a year cost which could have been reduced significantly. | |
|
| Public Option Alive and Well Posted: 11/8/2009 7:26:26 AM | Hey the new Health Care only added another Trillion Dollars to our debt.
Wonder what the next Trillion Dollar the Democrats will dream up.
Oh Well its only money.
Hours after President Obama exhorted Democratic lawmakers to "answer the call of history," the House hit an unprecedented milestone on the path to health-care reform, approving a trillion-dollar package late Saturday that seeks to overhaul private insurance practices and guarantee comprehensive and affordable coverage to almost every American. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/11/07/AR2009110701504.html?wprss=rss_business
The 220-215 vote for the trillion-dollar effort to extend health coverage to millions of Americans who currently lack it capped a long debate during which a soporific tone belied the tension within the majority Democratic caucus. http://news.yahoo.com/s/cq/20091108/pl_cq_politics/politics3244178_8
What was interesting was how close the vote was in the house.
Don't forget that the Senate needs 60 votes which is means every Democrat needs to vote for the bill plus one or two more. Right now there are a few Democrats that are not totally on board.
It also seems that the bill in the Senate is quite different than the one that was passed in the House which presents quite a few other problems.
